Explorer Travel Insurance has been trading since 2011 and specialises in great value Single Trip, Annual Multi Trip, Winter Sports, Cruise and Backpacker travel insurance.

Buy direct and choose from up to 5 levels of cover with the added peace of mind that all policies are underwritten by Allianz (the world's largest insurer) and include gadget and cruise cover as standard.

We are based in Westcliff on Sea, Essex and are very proud of the excellent levels of service we provide to our customers both online and by our friendly and professional sales advisors. We don't have a maximum age limit for single trip policies and can offer cover for customers with, or without, pre-existing medical conditions.

“The web site works quite well and that is good, as this is the main access point to purchase insurance for my travel. The costs are reasonably competitive but there are new entrants coming on to the market that are trying to make a niche for themselves. This however, does not really manifest itself in markedly better premiums for us travellers. The main reason for this is that, from my experience, ALL the middle of the road providers such as Explorer are all using the same algorithm based assessment mechanism which really has very little finese when it comes to pricing the medical factors which most senior citizens have to declare. I find it particularly arbitrary and really a rather blunt instrument of measurement when it is well known that older travellers naturally have issues like blood pressure elevation, but although we live quite normally with this general condition, that just seems to be an excuse to ramp up the premium without any further consideration of the overall health of the applicant. The excuse I received recently when I challenged this point with an Explorer competitor, I was told that it would be too costly to introduce a human arbitrator to fine tune the quotations given out by the on line insurers. Thus we senior citizens just have to accept that as we have to have travel insurance, this is the best we can expect. The cost of this travel insurance is beginning to represent a meaningful proportion of the overall cost travel for us.”

“This is only the second time in succession I have taken travel insurance with Explorer Travel and thus far have had no cause to make any claim. The deals have however been more attractive than many others for virtually the same cover. I am satisfied, partcularly as I am an elderly person, (in numbers only).”
