Explorer Travel Insurance has been trading since 2011 and specialises in great value Single Trip, Annual Multi Trip, Winter Sports, Cruise and Backpacker travel insurance.

Buy direct and choose from up to 5 levels of cover with the added peace of mind that all policies are underwritten by Allianz (the world's largest insurer) and include gadget and cruise cover as standard.

We are based in Westcliff on Sea, Essex and are very proud of the excellent levels of service we provide to our customers both online and by our friendly and professional sales advisors. We don't have a maximum age limit for single trip policies and can offer cover for customers with, or without, pre-existing medical conditions.

I have been with Explorer Travel for a few years now and always received excellent service. My health issues are covered and I am given a copy of our discussions which I like. Fortunately I have not made a claim but I have clear guidelines to follow if the occasion arose.

Website easy to navigate, policy excellent value, provided good cover. Had to amend my policy as my wife was taken ill shortly before our holiday, hospitalised for several days then treated at home with intravenous antibiotics. Amended the health screening questions online, declared an additional medical condition and was provided with a quote. Rang to speak to an advisor, explaining the situation to her and she said my wife wouldn't be covered as she was still receiving treatment. I asked her if that was the case, how had I obtained a quote. She said to hold on whilst she checked the medical screening then came back on and said everything was ok. Maybe a bit more training is required.

Have purchased explore travel insurance many time have always been pleased with service and price but last purchase problem with medical the questions over my husband's hernia have changed never had a problem in the past costing us a lot more money will be searching around for better quote next time

Have used your travel insurance once before . The policy was very reasonably priced, so thought we would use you again. You covered all our health problems. The form was easy to fill in .

The travel insurance provided the cover that we needed especially as we had to cancel our 50th wedding anniversary river cruise due to health problems. That is when the trouble started. Travel Claims Facilities who handle claims for Explorer provided appalling service. Their first response (14 August) agreed a settlement then a week later a second letter corrected a calculation error (didn't deduct the correct excess ) in the first letter. The refund should have been in my bank within 5 working days (22 August). Still no refund by the 28th. Phoned them and was told that both letters were mistakes as the payment hadn't been authorised. Promised me a mangaer would phone but no call received by next day so I phoned again and refused to hang up until I got some answers. Later on the 29th received an email offering settlement in a "timely manner". We shall see. This sort of treatment reflects badly on Explorer. I have used Explorer many times but now will go elsewhere!

Hard to fault my insurance as I had no need to claim but on paper, it had everything I needed for a healthy, single, 68 year old on a single journey

Didn't need to use it but like the fact that you can cover yourself for pre existing conditions. I guess you only really find out how good an insurance policy is when you're unfortunate enough to have to claim.
