Good service quick delivery but delivery is expensive

Hi Gerald Thank you for the review and sorry you feel this way. I have looked up your order and can see that in your case the delivery was indeed more than the value of the goods purchased. Transport costs have increased extensively over the years, and the carriers that take large materials (this particular order was not large materials, but there is one carrier service for all) charge large surcharges for residential addresses and so we most likely would have lost money on this order due to the low product margins, low order value and high running costs. It would have been better for us if the order were collected, although I imagine the cost to you in doing this would have exceeded the carriage charge and so this review should be considered in perspective and in terms of value to you as a customer, where you were able to purchase unusual items not stocked in most places, and have them delivered saving your costs and a 210 mile round trip. In this perspective £20 seems pretty good value to most, and you must have thought so in terms of solving your problem or the order would not have been placed. Yours C & A Building Products

Good products but lack of communication from C&A would make me think twice about using them again.

Hi Thank you for your review however it would be helpful if you could provide us more information. I have looked at your order and will answer the points you raised. Not sure what poor website is means, look and feel something did not work etc. Wrong delivery address put in by staff, YOU placed the order online, we did not enter the delivery address you provided these. Problems paying? the system shows you only tried to make the payment once and it went through the first time. If you would like to contact us then perhaps we can try and understand exactly what the problems you experienced are.

They have the cheapest prices anywhere. That's they're only positive. £30 delivery and it took them two weeks to deliver. Their website claims that they get '98% of deliveries done within 8 days.' My delivery was one of that 2%. For £30, that's unbelievably poor value. When the delivery finally arrived, there was no leeway with the delivery driver. He would only deliver it at quite a narrow timeframe. This timeframe only came to us the day before it was delivered. So the delivery just ended up being put outside. To be fair to the driver, he did a job good at covering it, and nothing was stolen. We also clearly ordered the wrong item relative to the rest of what we ordered. Any expert on building materials would have identified what we were building, and what pieces we needed. But there was zero communication from them about this, and no attempt to let us know the piece we ordered was wrong. Appalling customer service.

Reasonably quick delivery and driver called hr before delivery, great driver but unfair to let him off load brand new pvc cladding that quite clearly had been store for around 2 years outside, wet, covered in green mould items that hadnt been checked prior to going onto lorry. The driver then had to wipe each board to see if it would come off and up until now (as i havent fitted them yet) whether any are damaged. Over £800 spent and old stock sent out very dis appointed after reading the reviews.

Looks good but a couple of complaints; 1. of the glasing bars was dented before it had been wrapped in clinfilm, insufficient time to swap out when you have fitters waiting to install. 2. Not enough reather membrane tape supplied. Results another days labour at additional cost.

Thank you for the review I can see this is the only order on the account this year and it was for some hockey board. The pandemic and inflation has no doubt affected prices since 2019, but we keep a keen eye on the market and will take a look at this 250mm Hockey Board in particular for the next edition of the catalogue because of your feedback We look forward to seeing you again Yours C & A Building Products

Dear Customer (as you requested to stay anonymous on the review) I have looked up your order for the 3.5M glazing bars recently that was purchased on the 19-06-2023 and we had to send on our own transport due to the recent collapse of the carrier firm Tuffnells that is widely reported in the news. This order was delivered on the 4th July on our own vehicle ensuring it arrived in one piece. We are sorry this delivery was outside ideal timescales, however we did manage to get them there as quickly as possible giving the unfolding unusual circumstances We carry a range of large materials that are not always available more locally, and logistics issues like this may cause delays, however we are normally in your area or weymouth every other week with our own vehicle for large items carriers just can not handle and this may be best for future planning of your jobs. We hope that the rest of the job went well with these two Avon 35/40mm glazing bars, although I notice there were not sheets or anything else on the order to accompany them. Ordered guttering. My order had 50% correct parts and 50% wrong parts (they were correct on the delivery note but the contents didn't agree) - I guess the picker at C&A just picked the wrong parts. I phoned and replacements were sent a few days later. This time the parts were correct but they supplied 2, not the 3 on the order. I bought a third one locally, it isn't expensive.

The corrugated plastic sheets that I installed on my elderly sisters roof 5 years ago have turned black and unsightly while letting very little light in , I’ve now got to replace them and at 73 and now living 100 miles from her it’s a real pain. Although fitted 5 years ago the discolouration started quite a while back, was they in a faulty batch or can I expect the replacements to go the same ?

Hi Thank you for the review, from looking at the photo it would appear that these sheets are on an enclosed structure who no ventilation around the sheets. Looking as if these have been used on a conservatory style building lean too it would also appear that there are either blinds or insulation under the sheet's, or in extreme case's it could be that the room is not ventilated adequately. In effect these sheets have been baked and so the ageing process is then rapidly accelerated from them not being used in their servicable. and as with a cake analagy if it is exposed to temperatures much grater than the designed servicability the do bake and change colour. Given you are unlikely going to wish to change the use of this room significantly, it would not be recommended to use PVC corrugated for this type of enclosed application. Yours C&A Building Products

THE POLYCARBONATE SHEET GAVE LESS THAN PERFECT RESULTS: USED FOR FORWARD FACING SLOPING BOAT WINDOWS THERE WAS SOME DISTORTION. tHESE WERE 6MM SHEET THAT HAD A SLIGHT CURVE. IT WAS EASY TO CUT WITH A FINE METAL CUTTING JIGSAW BLADE RUNNING AT MEDIUM SPEED. DRILLING WAS ALSO EASY. SANDING WAS DONE WITH A SLOW RUNNING OLD STYLE SANDING DISC IN A BATTERY DRILL.

The product price was at least certainly on par with many of the other PVC suppliers that I use. The delivery was lightning fast and days ahead of other suppliers. The PVC itself is where my delivery kinda fell over. The PVC sheet was the right colour and the size but the protective sheet on the good side was completely removed on 1 of the 3 and partially on the remaining 2. Not ideal when I still needed to cut this down to smaller size and machine marks are almost certainly going to make an impact on the finished product. Ashame as this was the trial run for a larger order I have to make in the new year.

1st phone was told I could not order coving as not in stock for bout four weeks, when I rang again to see if I could order it, I was told there was no delay, so not sure of the 1st confusion. Ordered via the phone and sai d it would come in about five days. I have not received any confirmation of this sale although the money has been taken from my account. But then, I have not chased for this yet as been very busy

I have used the brown Avon plastic roofing system and my main complaint is that it goes white and twists after a few years as it’s not UV light resistant. It really should be as it’s inevitably going to be used in a location where it will get full sunlight. The result is that after a few years it all has to be replaced. Why C&A can’t make it UV resistant I cannot imagine. A similar product from Screwfix is UV resistant and I used that on a roof in 2006 and it still looks good. I don’t think I will use the C&A product again to be honest.

I gave the overall dimensions to your staff requesting that one side of the roof will abutting a parapet wall and the opposite side it will be the open lean-to. Looking at the catalogue supplied an "F" section would have been more useful. I also queried the sheet ends 6 supplied only 3 required, I did query this with the staff and was told the section is required at both ends, having received the items it is obvious to me this section is only required at the bottom of the sheet.
