About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I have been a gym user for many years using cross trainers and bikes. Before the new equipment was installed I would have given 5 stars. I have reduced that to 3 stars because: 1) New cross trainers are much too heavy to use compared to the original ones. I'm reasonably fit but on a setting of 1 they push my heart rate into the red within minutes...could comfortably manage 30 minutes at setting 4 on the originals. 2) The new racing style bikes are really uncomfortable - racing saddles, stooped handlebar position. Hard to do more than 10 minutes. The original ones were much easier on the body. I have discussed this with local staff (who I know well and who do a great job). The pool is a great asset.”

“The classes at ledbury halo centre are brilliant especially the Pilates classes ! The legs bums and tums are also a fun and great way of getting fit by katrin !”

“A very warm welcome each time you enter the Rec. It feels like a family atmosphere with all staff ‘mucking in’ to help each other and customers. While the changing rooms and showers for swimming cannot be described as premium, they are always clean despite heavy usage.”

“The reason for only a 4 star is that the cleanliness needs to be addressed. I can only say what I use which is the pool area. Dead flies in and around the pool, changing area needs a deep clean. Paintwork on doors need a good clean, very dirty!! on the puch pads and handles. Might I say that the staff are always very helpful & pleasent.”

“Staff very friendly and helpful. One thing I would like to comment on and it's not just me, is having the floors in the gym washed whilst people are in there. It is a bit of a health and safety issue especially when the floors are wet trying to get to different apparatus. Apart from that it is a good place to go.”

The gym floors are swept and mopped generally between 2.30 and 3pm during a normally quiet time in the gym and wet floor signs are put out. Sorry if this is causing you an inconvenience. “It’s a great facility and good value for money. Staff are friendly. Some of the free weight equipment could be duplicated as a little in short supply when gym is busy.”

“The gym has everything I need, it is clean and welcoming, the staff are helpful and friendly too. I'm particularly grateful for the advice and support which has helped me to achieve my own goals. I recommend the Rec especially the gym and pool as a great place to keep fit. We feel so lucky to have this on our doorstep I definitely use it more with it being in Highworth than if in Swindon.”
