About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“The gym could do with a revamp. Sometimes the ladies toilets are a bit smelly. But lovely helpful staff. Great pool.”

“The equipment could be better. Often the accessories for the cable machines is missing. There should also be free WiFi as when you book sessions in advance you can fast track in because the signal in the building isn’t great and there is no WiFi. Staff have also made this comment. Nice facility though. Staff are very helpful and it’s also nice and clean”

“I’ve been a member for a number of years and everyone at the centre is helpful and cheerful. Helen and the other people on reception will do anything to help if you experience a problem. All the instructors are excellent and knowledgable and make the classes challenging at the correct level. The only disappointment is that Zumba taken by Hannah has had to move to a different venue. We were a large number of women who enjoyed Zumba in the hall and a chat in the cafe area after.”

“We attended Halo Bridgend recently, the facilities were good. However the baby changing was at the very back of the cafe behind all the tables and chairs and was therefore inaccessible with a pushchair. The cafe itself had no dairy free / soya free food options or snack options which is very disappointing for allergy sufferers like myself. This resulted in me leaving early after a baby class as opposed to staying with the other parents who were enjoying refreshments.”

“The staff are great and are very friendly and professional but there is not always a member of staff on the desk if needed. Facilities are good, price is reasonable. The opening hours are too short on the weekend especially compared to other centres. Lock has not been changed on family changing room door for weeks so can’t be used as is not secure. The jacuzzi has not been working for sometime. The gym equipment needs an update again compared to other centres the equipment is very poor.”

“I use Holmleigh park halo for my kids swimming. I don’t find many of the swim teachers friendly and approachable (apart from Sophie, she’s brilliant). They only allow watchers week every other week even when it’s non busy and they have empty seats. I’ve seen the swim teachers need parents support for issues such as behaviour or toilet and the parent isn’t watching due it not being their watchers week. They have to walkie talkie for a life guard to track down the parent in order to take them to the toilet or remove them from the class. Would allowing all parents to watch every week rectify matters like this? I heard before Covid it was watchers week every week. I personally wouldn’t recommend Holmleigh park as a swim school.”

“Helen Lewis is exceptional and the heart of Bridgnorth Centre. Standards of cleanliness and general management decisions do seem to have slipped, since James the previous manager left. A continous change in class times due to school requirements and a lack of appropriate instructors is unhelpful and frustrating for those trying to maintain their fitness levels in s structured way. However, overall I still enjoy being a member of the centre and am especially grateful to Helen Lewis for her fantastic work ethic and bubbly personality”

“Where to start? The entire team in Ross are amazing. They are polite, courteous, friendly, chatty and never seem to mind that I need extra help sometimes because of my MS. They will open the doors, offer to carry my bag through to the changing room etc if they can see I'm having a 'less mobile' day even though I've only been going there for 3 months. They never complain that I need the disabled lift even if Peter is doing swimming classes with the 'little people'. The Ross team are the reason I keep swimming after my daughter made me start again in May. I love coming to the pool and will continue to come twice a week. Thank you all so, so much, it means a great deal.”

“First time using the wall climbing in Bridgend Life Centre for my two daughters and a friend today. They had a fantastic time. The instructors Bianca and Nia were friendly and welcoming. Nia was wonderful with my girls (one was nervous starting) but she was patient and encouraging. Highly recommend and will be back. Excellent price too.”
