About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I rarely leave negative reviews, but Halo Leisure’s cancellation and payment system has been unnecessarily frustrating. After receiving an email about an outstanding balance on a closed account, I attempted to resolve it promptly and professionally, only to be met with a wall of generic, AI-generated responses that failed to address the actual content of my emails. Their digital assistant, “Healthi,” seems designed to deflect rather than assist. It repeatedly offered vague instructions and referred me back to the same contact details I’d already used. Despite clearly requesting written confirmation and an invoice for the outstanding balance, I was told the only way to settle the account was by phone, a method that offers no paper trail or accountability. In 2025, it’s baffling that a leisure provider still doesn’t offer a secure online payment option for closed accounts or a straightforward way to cancel services. The process felt unnecessarily opaque and outdated, with multiple emails required just to confirm a £26.20 balance. If Halo wants to maintain customer trust, they need to overhaul their cancellation and billing systems, starting with ditching the AI assistant that gives copy-paste answers and investing in proper digital infrastructure that respects users’ preferences for written correspondence and online transactions.”

“It has library and cafe . There are classes offering all types of fitness regimes but I dont use them. I use the gym which is ok for the half hour twice a week I want to do. You can just get on with your weights , cardio, mat exercises . The staff, in my experience, dont interact with you while you are exercising.”

“I love many of the classes in Halo Bridgend and my teachers are fantastic. I'd give 5 stars if it wasn't for the abysmal problems with parking. I have to travel over 5 miles to get to the centre and feel the carpark should be only for gym members and library users. I have had to book in and go home some days due to lack of parking. Pls arrange meeting with BCBC asap and sort this out. It is only going to get worse with Xmas coming and the new medical centre being built opposite.”

“Never having been to a gym I was very apprehensive. However, I was made to feel welcome. All the equipment was explained to me. Any questions I had were answered. Altogether a very positive experience.”

“I am really happy with Hereford leisure centre staff attitude and gym. Well done team! One suggestion please … please please could you put another cross trainer in the window area. There is currently one and yet there are 7 running machines. Please could you put another cross trainer by window. Normally when I use the gym this is always being used, whilst there are always running machines not being used.”

“Friendly staff. Female changing area is not maintained to a high standard. The drains are full of debris and it is generally not very clean. There should be two hairdryers but there only ever seems to be one working.”

“Friendly staff, but gym remains dusty and dirty. Have asked for bumper plates for the gym, which as the gym is being done out I'm hopeful these will be provided. A lifting platform or three would also be useful. Opening times on the weekend are an issue as they close.so early.”
