About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I think the water in the pool could be a little cooler to make people swim stronger to warm up.”

“The centre is lovely and clean and the staff are very very lovely. I would improve it with the following: more family swim times , longer gym and swim sessions at weekends also opening the jumping gym longer at weekends. Bring back the 2-3 pm swim and the 8-9pm swim. Make a joint price offer that covers Hereford and Leominster. The whole site fee is too high and membership should be reflective on sites halo users want to choose but should reflect fair pricing. Re open the spa at Hereford or better still add one to Leominster.”

“The staff at Aberfan Centre are amazing. I can only speak about the swimming pool and changing rooms. The pool is always clean, but is often too cold. The changing rooms are in need of a major overhaul, particularly the toilets. The changing area is particularly cold and could do with a bit of heating.”

“A good well run leisure centre with welcoming helpful staff at hand Some points do need attention though 1) repairs to various items of gym equipment need to be put in hand “asp” 2) Lockers in the changing area’s need repairing some are in a very poor state.”

“Pool changing rooms need to be cleaned more regular, and water swept away. Cafe is not great and opening times are not what they need to be. Often on busy Sundays where there are events it closed. Quality of food is not great, but the service is always excellent to be fair. Personally I would sell/ rent that area to either an established business or local business to create a better cafe/coffee shop. Squash courts are never cleaned.”

“I enjoy the classes which I attend because they keep me active and help me to meet people. The facilities are always kept clean and whenever I've had a problem, the staff behind the desk have been very approachable and keen to help.”

“I take my disabled son swimming twice a week and the life guards are always helpful getting him in and out of the pool and always chat to him and make sure he is comfortable.”

“I enjoy using the gym, but centre lacks classes for zumba, aerobics, and yoga/pilates. These would be a great addition to the centre.”
