About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I use the fantastic putdoor pool, sports hall, GP surgery, and foodshare. This is an excellent hub of the community through the year, but really comes to life when the pool is open. We are so very fortunate to have this centre in our village, and particularly the fantastic pool.”

“Nice and clean place with friendly staff on reception. The only problem is that the changing facilities make early morning swimming difficult. Few hooks in the cubicles for business shirts or jackets, and having to walk barefoot means that work trousers get damp on the bottom, the. You have to dry feet off a second time and put on socks and shoes in the lobby.”

Hi Stephen, Thank you for sharing your experience at Halo! We’re glad to hear that you found our facility nice and clean, as well as our reception staff friendly. Your points about the changing facilities are well taken, and we understand how important it is for early morning swimmers to have a convenient setup. We’re continuously looking into ways to improve our facilities and your feedback will help us in those efforts. We provide overshoes in reception for people to be able to enter the changing rooms without removing their shoes and hope that in most cases this helps with the wet/dry environment. “It is easy to get to. It has friendly staff. The gym sessions which I attend are also very well attended and are just as much a social aspect as a supervised work out for the older generation.”

“The staff are mostly friendly and helpful. There are a couple of the staff that are exceptional who go out of their way to be helpful. Some are not very communicative at all. Shame that wet workout have 2 sessions on a Tuesday and Thursday and none of the other days I would prefer a daily session Monday - Thursday”

“Such a shame that the group timetable has changed. No body pump on Mondays and Disappointed that body pump isn’t on every Saturday now. Would really like Zumba also.”

“Some fitness classes need to be improved and updated on a regular basis, including the music. More trainers need to be made available to provide adequate cover. Some fitness classes have very small numbers attending so should be replaced with something different.”

“Staff are nice but the facilities at the gym are poor. The gym is very small and overcrowded. The weight section is poor. Other gyms are cheaper for the facilities, it’s just convenient for me at the moment. Changing room facilities for the gym are poor for the men. It’s very small and hot in there so you never dry. Compared to somewhere like Bridgend Rec which has hairdryers etc. Car park is often full of rubbish.”

“Exercise Instructors are excellent and have put in a lot of effort to provide cover for absent colleagues. Generally a good selection of exercise classes, however daytime exercise classes that are suitable for fit older people have been reduced, it would be great if a way could be found to reinstate these. A piece of equipment in the gym has been broken for several months. Can this please be fixed - and perhaps a note attached to demonstrate how to use alternative pieces of equipment. Only one TV in the gym working. The Centre always looks clean and litter free, sanitiser and paper towels are always available. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. Membership cost is reasonable. I feel that the Centre is a good asset for the town.”

We understand your concerns regarding the daytime classes for fit older individuals and will certainly consider options to reinstate them. Please let us know which classes have been cancelled so we can look at the programme and suggest other classes to you. The piece of gym kit has now been fixed but we have consistently had a problem with this machine so I am sorry if you have found it unavailable. If you would like to arrange a gym refresher with a member of the team to go through the other machines we would be more that happy to help with this. “I really enjoy coming to halo regularly. The timetable and offers are great, lots of variety of classes. I usually swim at different times dependent on the day. The pool is pretty standard for a municipal swimming pool. I think it would be better if there was a quick clean of the floors after the schools/kids sessions, at the start of the 5.35 session, as the floors often get very muddy and dirty throughout the changing rooms. I used to use the gym more and have positive experiences of this space. The new water cooler has been broken for some time which is a shame. But I think halo is great value for money, for £40pm to access all the facilities and classes.”

“reception staff are helpful and profesional very disapointed that because of the great difficulty in getting places in Aqua I reluctantly took membership now find that classes are being cancelled on a Tuesday this now adds more pressure on class availabilty . More classes are obviously required.”
