About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I am unhappy about the total lack of any group exercise classes based on stretch and flexibility, such as pilates or yoga. I am also not happy with the requirement to prebook a gym slot. This was not the case before Halo took over, and use to enable me to pop to the gym spontaneously. It was never overcrowded.”

Good afternoon Nina, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback — we truly appreciate it! We’re sorry to hear that you’re disappointed about the lack of yoga or Pilates classes. Please rest assured that adding a stretch class is already on our radar and something we’re actively considering. Regarding the booking system, it helps us better understand gym usage throughout the day, including peak and quiet times. The good news is that you don’t actually need to pre-book — you can still turn up spontaneously, just as you used to. All it takes is a quick tap on two buttons on your phone when you scan your card at reception. We’ll be more than happy to sign you in ourselves if you’re having trouble using the app on your phone. “Staff are very friendly but the gym is tired and poorly equipped. At peak times the gym is far too cramped with school kids often 3/4 to a machine and there aren’t enough plates to go around. Bumper plates specifically would be a great addition.”

“Nice, comfy, convenient schedule. Please provide internet for public, because there is no mobile signal too. Please clean swimming pool, smells with pee.”

“Changing rooms could be vastly improved. The app frequently has issues It’s unfortunate that the Endowed School takes priority which can affect the number and frequency of some classes.”

“I attend the aqua fit classes twice a week and it has really helped with the issues I have with my joints. The instructors are great and the social aspect is an added bonus”

“Excellent Centre. Easy to park next to and very friendly staff. The Pool is clean and always at a comfortable temperature to swim. The two gyms are well equipped and have staff nearby to ask if you're unsure how to use an equipment you've never before. Changing rooms are very clean. Café next to entrance us one of the best in the area and excellent prices as well.”

“I enjoy all my classes at Halo. The only thing I don’t like is not being able to get into the active for life class, as it gets booked up straight away 2 weeks in advance.”
