About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Reception not always manned which can be rather irritating. Water warm and staff pleasant! Simple to navigate around the booking system, however cannot always use the phone App to sign in. Steam room not available for quite a while, this week the shower by the sauna was not working.”

Hi Karon Thank you for your recent review. There are sections of the day when the front of house is unfortunately unmanned as operational issues take precedent however, that is when we reply on other platforms to make customer visits as smooth as possible. If you are having issues with the App please speak with a member of the team on your next visit and we can try and iron out any problems. We have had historical problems with parts and maintenance for our health suite but are exploring external areas to aid with its upkeep and deliver an improved service. “Excellent gym . Equipment clean and tidy . All free weights in correct spots . Good selection of free weights available . All machinery in good order and well maintained . Very happy . Gym manager on hand to help with queries .”

“Too small. Too many people allowed in at one time, even though you have booked. Too many groups of teenagers hogging the weights. No wifi. Not a broad enough range of machines. Very expensive for what you actually get.”

“Nice centre run by really friendly group of committed and professional people. I use the pool regularly and also the gym. The pool is very nice, and an accessible pool for all. My only criticism would be the lockers at the pool and the toilets in the pool - the lockers are all quite old, many don't work and keys have broken wrist straps etc. The toilets are a bit run down, and there seems to be a permanently 'out of order toilet' or two. Other than those two things, great.”

“Pyle Needs updating, looks old and untidy. Gym is always dusty cobwebs around the windows. Pool is freezing making hard to warm up even whilst swimming. Changing rooms always have people stuff in when swimming lessons are on so makes it hard to find a room to change in. Everyone should be using lockers not leaving there stuff in changing rooms so they can't be used.”

“Although the centre had a renewal about 10 years ago, it is now starting to show its age, the main pool has sand from the filter on the bottom of the pool, other elements were also not so good, for example, the changing rooms had a strange drain-like smell, and the booking website/mobile app are very clunky and overall user experience of these is poor, however, aside from these small let-downs the centre is otherwise ok, for example, the staff were all friendly, and the cleanliness was generally ok.”

“I love going along to my halo centre, whether it's swimming, in the gym or a exercise class I feel welcome and not like lime everyone is staring at me. There is something for everyone at every ability. The staff are amazing and so friendly and helpful. I always leave feeling better than when I went in.”

“Overall a good experience when using the centre, friendly staff, 1 or 2 fast lanes need to be added in the “swim for fitness” sessions for confident and strong swimmers only. Investment in the “sauna/steam/ jacuzzi “ needed, a sauna would be great for users and a cold tub for recovery. This would make the centre a lot more appealing. I would also expand the gym and make larger if possible with a functional area.”
