About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“There is a good range of gym equipment and the pool is nice. The staff are all friendly and helpful. I haven't tried any of the group classes as the ones I would like to do are when I'm in work. It would be nice to rotate the times and days of some classes.”

“Swim for fitness session: the lifeguard was attentive when I swallowed water and started coughing; I felt well monitored thereafter. The changing cubicles were clean, but the shower cubicle grouting was horrible: grimey, dirty-looking. Please do something to remedy this.”

“The classes I’ve been to are good. The gym is too small and the booking system is inconvenient, as you can’t show up when you want to. The changing and shower facilities are so dirty! Especially the toilets! To the point I’m looking at changing gyms because for £40 a month it’s just unacceptable. As is being made to walk bare foot around the changing room. It would be good to have a separate changing room for the gym as the floors are always socking wet and often smell of urine.”

“Excellent staff at Hereford Halo Leisure Centre. Poorly maintained greens on the municipal golf course remain a considerable disappointment. Good experience at Halo swimming pool recently: clean and dry changing room.”

“GP referral and Gym: Trainers are informative and always ready to assist with queries related to equipment and exercises. I think it would be helpful if some Trainers walked around the gym more than at present. They would then be able to point out obvious areas where people are using equipment incorrectly or even dangerously. This applies particularly to the younger people who use the Gym. (This obsevation does not applyto all Trainers, only some.) In addition, it would be helpful if notices to wash hands were placed in every area and antiseptic hand gel was available in all activity spaces. Also, please could there be more Tai Chi sessions at different times. Thank you.”

“The classes are good and the gym is fab but the reception staff often don't smile and messed up my membership twice, had to ring twice and popped in twice and eventually got it sorted. The person who rung me was brilliant and sorted it straight out”
