About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I really enjoy using the gym and the swimming pool. Although I would like to mention that there are instances to where users of the gym go to the swimming pool after they finish off their work out sweaty and without having a shower. In addition there are some kids that are using the gym machines without having any experience on how to do it and they’re putting themselves into risks of accidents.”

“I am a lane swimmer Thank you for providing the service It is the best pool near to where I live I wish it was larger so the lanes were wider but as a pool user I can’t change it or fund changes The timetable provides a good spectrum of available sessions throughout the day and week I wish there were more lane swim slots at the weekend Pool users should be mindful and respectful of the swimming lesson groups taking place throughout the day. I think centre members should get a 1.5 hour parking slot. There is only 1 or 2 hours parking tariffs available. I think a 1.5 hour slot would be a sweet spot especially as I travel and park 3/4 times per week at the centre. Sometimes I do find myself paying for a 2 hour parking slot when I’m only there for 1 hour, 15/20 mins ( if on occasion /sometimes I run over the 1 hour time ) I would recommend the centre to other people to use.”

“Exceptional service from Hannah Smart at Pontycymer Library at Halo Garw Valley Life Centre. I explained that I currently had no access to print an important 3 page form. Hannah was so helpful and explained if I could send the form to her via email she could print the form for me. Once I read and completed it, Hannah then kindly scanned the pages and emailed them back to me. What a lifesaver! Thank you Hannah!”

“Changing rooms are grubby, lockers don't have wrist straps, one shower is broken, several classes cancelled due to no lifeguards and for the last several months it's been almost impossible to park, car park is FULL of people who are NOT using the HALO facilities, probably the school using the car park as it doesn't have signs to say for the use of HALO clients only. Am thinking of cancelling my membership if these issues continue”

“I'm happy with all that's happening and planned,I'm hoping that we start to see this put into action,eg Cwmbran spa area has been out of action several years ,but I/we pay full membership. I do really hope we'll see the progress soon.I have personal journey with this leisure centre, and I'm extremely grateful to the excellent instructors who have and continue to help me with my health and wellbeing 🙏🏽.”

“I attend exercise classes every weekday evening at Cwmbran Stadium. Focussing on the gym refurbished is completely wrong. Investment needs to be made on things that will earn you more bread and butter. The car parking needs to be increased - get rid of the ridiculous bus lay by and kerbs to increase the volume and make it a one way car parking needs with lighting on when it needs to be. After 4pm it is extremely dangerous for pedestrians. Sort out the swipe cards for admission to stop non paying guests having access to everything. Increase capacity if exercise classes by making use of bigger rooms and fix the leaking roof! I bet you could do all of this for the same amount you are planning to spend on yet another gym refurbishment and will bring you more revenue. And sort out proper cover for your exercise classes when the instructors are off rather than just cancelling them.”
