About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“1. From the outset I had difficulty booking classes online as the system would crash or not allow me to book despite places being available so I would often have to ring to see if I could book. 2. Pool temperature was too warm ( especially first thing in the morning) meaning I felt lethargic and so consequently didn’t swim hard enough to enact a good aerobic workout. Several times I had to get out early as the water was just too warm on my face! 3. Staff were always pleasant and welcoming but some of the toilet/ shower facilities were not. Mouldy ceilings and walls in the disabled shower facility/ toilet seats that moved in unison with one’s bowel movements/ shower push buttons coming off… so not as clean as one would have wanted overall. 4. In some of the classes the instructors didn’t update/ change their routines very often . Variety helps keep the mind enthused and helps distract from the “ pain” and keep people interested/ engrossed. 5. Some - if not all of the aerobic equipment needs replacing or upgrading. The runners are hard on the joints ( compared to others I have used ) and may have contributed to my sciatica and the steppers also need updating. 6. Overall it felt like I was stuck in a time warp- in the late 1970’s/ early 80’s which is a real shame as I wanted to support my local facility. Staff were friendly but must feel as if they have one hand tied behind their back- with the state of some of the facilities. I wish them all the best for the future and if it gets some investment and a make- over I may be back. Constructively yours”

HI Kevin Thank you for the feedback. I agree that the shower room you have been using is in need of renovation. I have secured some funding for this project and will be making improvements to it very soon. The water temperature is often higher than the recommended 29o due to the solar gain we get from the pool environment. Temperatures are always challenging on poolside even with our brand new Air handling unit. With some of the classes that you come to RPM one class I know you have attended we use Les MIlls products they provide new content every 3 months so this is why it might feel too repetitive for you. Also sorry to hear you are not enjoying the new gym kit we have installed at the beginning of the year. Really sorry to hear that you are leaving us. We are continually striving to make improvements to our customer experience but this is undeniably a challenge. Many thanks Corina

“A few of the treadmills have been out of order for a few weeks and a couple of the strait masters are out of order can be quite annoying when it’s busy and people are hogging those in particular especially when their on them for more than 45 minutes at a busy time”

“I'm not happy about some of the lockers not working in the pool area. Not all the showers are in working order in the pool area. The leisure centre overall is clean and there are always staff available to assist.”

“It just about justifies the cost. The gym is very small but is well equipped and generally has most things I need for a workout. It is kept clean although the staff are not always 100% attentive. The swimming pool is a welcome extra although swim for fitness times mean it is difficult for me to use it regularly. The facility is within a school grounds which can be annoying getting access during school times.”

“Having a library, swimming pool and softplay in one place is brilliant. However, the gym is not up to scratch. It is far too small for the amount of members, especially at peak times. There are always machines out of order that don’t seem to get fixed. The main reason I have cancelled my membership is that the gym does not open early enough for a busy working Mum, so I have joined a 24 hour gym for less monthly amount than halo.”
