“Initially a lot was promised the issues that I had were resolved but when it came to compensation i was left with nothing only about 15 percent of what I was originally supposed to get. Once the solicitors receive their own fees you don’t really count anymore. Plus never was explained that if you owe rent or council tax they will deduct that from your compensation. I was expecting around £2800 only received £570 after years of mould and mice.”

Dear Ms Brown, The above is simply incorrect. Out of your agreed damages several hundred pounds was retained by your landlord to offset rental arrears. If you disagree and are in credit at any point, then you are able to request a refund. This was explained by your solicitor James (who has been qualified since 2007) on 3 November. Out of the remainder we took a success fee of £90+VAT and there was an insurance policy which you agreed to at the outset of your claim.

“Did not get all work completed as set out in the surveyors report. Then took half the money awarded which included £300 for an insurance policy to cover costs if the case was lost. Therefore absolutely no risk to them so why entitled to half the award?”

Our own fees are not covered by ATE insurance, and when cases are lost we receive nothing. We have responded to you in detail by email and always aim to ensure our clients are treated fairly.
