“This was a very basic session and one which we could have delivered ourselves. We expected something over and above what the school provides. Not sure what we paid for I'm afraid!”

“Although the leader (Lana) was lovely, I had anticipated that the children would be doing something more hands on/creative/drama-based. As it was, they were told where to stand and given lines to read out, many of which they didn't understand the significance of. Perhaps it would have been more effective if less was covered but in more depth?”

“We were very impressed with the workshop provided by West End in Schools. Kat was an enthusiastic and interactive presenter, and all students were engaged with the topic; given the challenging nature of the World War 1 content, this is no easy feat. The workshop enables the girls to empathise with the key stakeholders and gain perspectives into what their different experiences were. The use of drama and poetry to engage with this topic is a unique one, and one that I would highly recommend.”

“We have been lucky enough to have two West End in Schools workshops (Diwali and Poetry & Poppies) over the past few weeks. All children from Early Years to Year 6 were completely engaged with the sessions and enjoyed learning new things. The staff were helpful, friendly and developed a good relationship with pupils. I would recommend them to other schools and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”

“It was well adapted to each year group. The sessions were well-paced and engaging. The children learnt lots. The facilitator was excellent, captured the children's imagination and did a fabulous job of keeping them all engaged during the celebration at the end. Many members of staff have commented on how moving the performance was at the end. We are thrilled that we asked you to come in and will certainly consider booking again! Thank you!”

“The children were given a reminder of the story and introduced to interesting dance moves and dramatic freeze frames. At times, some of the instructions were slightly lengthy but otherwise the children enjoyed the workshop.”

“The poppies and poetry workshop was fun and full of fantastic historical content but unfortunately it wasn't quite pitched right for our age range. It would have benefited from a more hands on multi-sensory approach, there was a little too much teacher talk.”

“The Poetry and Poppies Workshops were excellent. Cat really engaged our pupils- her energy and creativity 'rubbed off' on the children. The workshops really enhanced the children's learning about World War 1. The performance at the end of the day was a memorable experience for all.”

“* The leader was positive, enthusiastic and encouraging. * Liked some of her management techniques with the children. * The children had lots of fun and enjoyed working in groups. * One teacher said the boys in her class were really engaged, which is unusual for a dance-based activity! * In a short space of time, the children learnt a whole dance routine. --> One teacher said the children in her class struggled to retell the Diwali story afterwards. --> One teacher mentioned that one of the songs used in the session was possibly inappropriate (spelt out the word 'pimp' which some of the children noticed and giggled at).”

“An excellent day for all concerned. Children from 4-11 were able to access and understand some tricky and mature themes as they put together a presentation to deliver in front of the whole school. They learned about and empathised with the experiences of others and developed their own self-confidence in performance as well as collaborating with their peers.”

“Daisy was very energetic - got the children involved and active straight away. The activities were fast paced and creative. Children were also praised for being sensible and respectful as WW1 poems were discussed. Has given myself some ideas about how to approach poetry. Fab workshop.”

“I'm afraid that my group had the last slot of the day and it was very apparent that the lady running the session had tired as her delivery was very flat. There was no allowance for exploration of drama skills which were not even mentioned. I am a drama specialist and was very disappointed at the pace with which she delivered the session which didn't allow for any individual creative thinking. The children were literally doing what they had been told.”

“The presenter (Craig) was well prepared, energetic and sensitive to the needs of the school and the children in it. He managed all ages and needs of children well and in a skilled way and also his boundless enthusiasm and praise he gave the children motivated them, kept them on task and also allowed us to reflect sensitively on this subject. Brilliant workshop and a highlight of our year!”

“We had the Diwali dance workshop. I had great feedback from teaching staff. They said it was educational, teaching children about the Diwali story as well as showing children traditional Diwali dance. The children really enjoyed it. It would have made more of an impact if the man who came in was in Diwali costume; we feel it would’ve made the sessions even better and given children another aspect of Hindu culture.”
