True Traveller - Travel Insurance designed by Travellers

When travelling overseas, the one thing you should never skimp on is your travel insurance cover, as should things go wrong you want the very best cover for you and your possessions.

At The True Traveller, we’re used to advising people on travelling all around the world, and due to feedback from our customers we’ve changed our insurance website, made it even better value and extended the range of products.

On Single Trips, we offer three Policies called True Value, Traveller and Traveller Plus. True Value is designed for travellers under 40 years of age, and is designed for last minute travellers and backpackers. The Traveller policy, our most popular, is designed for holiday makers and adventurous travellers alike, and Traveller Plus gives enhanced medical and cancellation cover.

On our Multi Trip Policies, again we offer the Traveller policy valid for unlimited trips throughout the year for durations up to 30 days, and the Traveller Plus policy which offers enhanced cover for unlimited trips lasting up to 70 days. We also have a budget True Value Policy for travellers under 40 years of age.

We’ve tried to get the prices as keen as possible on all our insurances. This means on the Single Trip and Multi-Trip you have the option to exclude Baggage Cover as this may well be covered in your Home Contents insurance; you also have the option to add-in different activity packs. The Traveller Pack covers 92 of the regular holiday activities which you will get involved in, and covers clerical/non-manual work as standard. The Adventure Pack covers a further 41 activities and is designed for the more adventurous traveller and backpacker, covering trekking to 4,600m, as well as volunteer work and manual work. The Extreme and Ultimate Packs covers all the more extreme and ultimate adventures. The Extreme covers trekking over 4,600m to any altitude, as well as Scuba Diving to 50M. The Ultimate covers Hang Gliding, Mountaineering and Polo to name just three of the Ultimate adventures!

“True Traveller was easy to set up online and easy to renew. I had a couple of medical issues that I called customer service about. The service and advice on the phone was professional, fast and informative. On both occasions my situations got better before I could make it to a doctor, so I haven’t had to make a claim yet. I can’t speak for processing a claim, but if it’s as good as the customer service, then I’d be very pleased with this insurance all around!”

“Easy and clear to take out, and much better value than other policies I looked into. Also great that’s it’s easy to renew whilst I’m still travelling. I had some issues getting a small claim paid into my non-English account, so it took longer than it should have, but it was all sorted in the end.”

“Userfriendly website and after all they always had the best value for money. I've claimed just ones yet and only oroblem so far is that you have to call them and number is British so not so convenient and little bit pricy when you are travelling.”

“Good value insurance. The different options you have, allow you to tailor the best insurance you need. The worldwide option (except North America) includes the possibility of travelling through USA and Canada in a limited time (which is nice, not to have to get the higher option) I would suggest that the basic premium should include trekking up to 4500m or 5000m as other companies do. The worst I found for this insurance is when you list special valuables. It is limited to 3 and to a max price of 450 pounds; the premium increases a lot just by including them, and makes almost not worth it doing it. For the rest, it's the best I found, even with the basic option.”

“I love travelling but preparing and planning a trip is not easy. I’ve checked and try very many travelling insurances and I’ve been disappointed many times. True Traveller website is really clear and well explained. It’s very easy to get in touch. I felt it was designed from people who had been in my situation before. They have been always available to answer my questions. I had to go to the doctor during my trip and the process of refunding was simple and fast. I’ve been covered by True Travel for the past year and I’ve just decided to renew one more year with them. I hope that I can continue being satisfied with their service.”

“Pros- two year insurance with unlimited home visits and a few other extras came to 891 which is cheaper than I expected. That includes an excess waiver too so it's ideal if you're going on a working holiday or travelling for a while. Cons- The maximum baggage insurance was for items up to £350. My laptop alone cost almost four times that. I had to do a medical screening because of a pre existing condition that wasn't automatically covered. One of the questions was about whether I've been to the A+E in the last year. It doesn't specify if this is due to my condition so I answered yes, but this question isn't asked unless you mention an illness. It should either clarify that it's specifically due to the condition you're declaring or be asked to everyone.”

“I’m travelling long term and it’s really hard fo find decent insurers that will cover you after you’ve already left the UK. True Traveller was well priced and the calculation tools were easy to use. Only thing i’d suggest would be a fixed “one year” option.”

“Purchasing was easy online and variety of options available to customise your insurance is great. I used it because it allowed me to be insured for my Canadian IEC visa for 2 years. This all being said I haven't had to make a claim yet so that side of this has not been reviewed.”

“The only reason I haven’t given Five Stars is because I’ve luckily not needed to make a claim (yet) so not experienced what it’s like going through a claim with this company but, easily the best options and prices for packages available for backpackers like myself. The option to add on extras you might need like certain activities or cover for valuables stolen, lost or damaged but have the option not to opt for to keep cost down is super handy. When I initaly looked for travel insurance it was difficult finding someone that could cover me for 12 months for a price that wasn’t going to break my bank, very happy I found True Traveller! I’ve recenlty taken out a second year of cover for my next 12 months of travelling! Highly recommend!”

“I'm using true traveler insurance since 2017 to all my travels. "touch the wood" I had to make the claim only ones for my dentist appointment, but i was resolved very quickly and in 2 weeks I got the money back. they have lots of options for different trips and different travel style so everyone can find type it suits best.”

“Easy to use website, good to have choices in level of cover. We were happy that they cover one way travel at no extra cost as we struggled to find a UK insurer to cover our trip home through the USA when we weren't returning to the UK. Reasonable price. Can't give 5 stars as haven't had to claim yet.”

“i had a policy with True Traveller which i took out in January 2020, before the outbreak of Covid-19. whilst i was away my family back home contacted true traveller for advice about the best way forward for my travels and how to get home. they were amazing and provided my family with reassurance as well as providing information which massively impacted what i should do. additionally, their website is laid out simply and effectively which made it very easy to find out information. the only thing that i would highlight is that it seems to be alot harder to claim money back if you DONT have a plus insurance which unfortunately i did not take out but i would have if this was made clear to me when i was advised which policy to take out. other than that, my experience with TT has been positive and i would recommend.”

“The coverage seems to be alright when looking through the activities covered and the terms and conditions. It is great that the coverage can be customized depending on ones needs, that is really great. I used true traveller for a year while I stayed in Canada. However I did not need any medical assistance so I cannot say how well it all works out once one has to file a claim, but I believe that with Allianz in the background as a large insurance company all should be fine as its a solid insurer in the background.”

“It is easy to buy and has good policy options. The live chat works well, but only during the UK working hours. If you are in a different time zone, you probably have to send an e-mail. Luckily so far, my trips have gone well, so I can't say anything about getting your money back for something.”

“True traveller is simple and easy to use. Tailoring the sort of insurance I needed and adding on any extras was uncomplicated and stress free. It was also very quick! Highly recommend for two year worldwide cover as this is something that not many travel agencies/insurers offer.”
