About True Traveller:

True Traveller - Travel Insurance designed by Travellers

When travelling overseas, the one thing you should never skimp on is your travel insurance cover, as should things go wrong you want the very best cover for you and your possessions.

At The True Traveller, we’re used to advising people on travelling all around the world, and due to feedback from our customers we’ve changed our insurance website, made it even better value and extended the range of products.

On Single Trips, we offer three Policies called True Value, Traveller and Traveller Plus. True Value is designed for travellers under 40 years of age, and is designed for last minute travellers and backpackers. The Traveller policy, our most popular, is designed for holiday makers and adventurous travellers alike, and Traveller Plus gives enhanced medical and cancellation cover.

On our Multi Trip Policies, again we offer the Traveller policy valid for unlimited trips throughout the year for durations up to 30 days, and the Traveller Plus policy which offers enhanced cover for unlimited trips lasting up to 70 days. We also have a budget True Value Policy for travellers under 40 years of age.

We’ve tried to get the prices as keen as possible on all our insurances. This means on the Single Trip and Multi-Trip you have the option to exclude Baggage Cover as this may well be covered in your Home Contents insurance; you also have the option to add-in different activity packs. The Traveller Pack covers 92 of the regular holiday activities which you will get involved in, and covers clerical/non-manual work as standard. The Adventure Pack covers a further 41 activities and is designed for the more adventurous traveller and backpacker, covering trekking to 4,600m, as well as volunteer work and manual work. The Extreme and Ultimate Packs covers all the more extreme and ultimate adventures. The Extreme covers trekking over 4,600m to any altitude, as well as Scuba Diving to 50M. The Ultimate covers Hang Gliding, Mountaineering and Polo to name just three of the Ultimate adventures!

So I can only rate it from the experience of buying the insurance since I haven't made a claim and hopefully won't need to.Very friendly and helpful staff when I called up and asked about the insurance and different options...I really appretiate the flexibility, that you can buy it when you're already travelling... and if you're travelling one way etc etc...that it meets different needs...and not just the mainstream traveller...and it was the cheapest one around wich is a big plus of course...

Travel insurance was easy to book online. One of the only few companies that allow booking of travel insurance when already abroad. Very helpful and provides peace of mind. Lots of customisable options so you only pay for what you need. Unfortunately the policies are quite expensive when you have pre-existing medical conditions. Wish there were more affordable options for this. I can’t comment on the claims process.

All easy and we like that there’s an option to cover walking up to 4600m. Many other companies stop at 4000m. The website is difficult to use on your phone. It requires you to turn the screen sideways, which makes everything fiddly.

Pros- two year insurance with unlimited home visits and a few other extras came to 891 which is cheaper than I expected. That includes an excess waiver too so it's ideal if you're going on a working holiday or travelling for a while. Cons- The maximum baggage insurance was for items up to £350. My laptop alone cost almost four times that. I had to do a medical screening because of a pre existing condition that wasn't automatically covered. One of the questions was about whether I've been to the A+E in the last year. It doesn't specify if this is due to my condition so I answered yes, but this question isn't asked unless you mention an illness. It should either clarify that it's specifically due to the condition you're declaring or be asked to everyone.

Had a nightmare trying to find insurance for my season away so finding true traveller saved me! Was hoping to find something a tiny bit cheaper but compared to the other insurance policy’s out there this was cheap! And it had great reviews and great coverage for me while I’m away, so I’m a hap out customer!

A good service with lots of assistance from the agent on the phone. Did not wait hours for phone to be answered. Policy not as transparent as I'd like but jargon explained clearly when I asked.

I bought this policy for my Nepal trekking trip because after searching this one seemed best for the price. They were very clear on whats included and excluded with my policy and also how to contact them in case I needed it. They also emailed me before my trip about risk of AMS and the precautions to take which I thought was useful. Thankfully my trip went well ,so I cant review about the service I would have got if I actually had to contact them.

This is my second time taking an insurance at True Traveller. Last year on my first year in Australia I didn't have any problem with them and I want to trust them for my second year as well. It is an insurance thought by and for travellers and it covers the necessary stuff that you need for your journey at a very affordable price!

Easy to use website, good to have choices in level of cover. We were happy that they cover one way travel at no extra cost as we struggled to find a UK insurer to cover our trip home through the USA when we weren't returning to the UK. Reasonable price. Can't give 5 stars as haven't had to claim yet.

Difficult to rate an insurance company when you haven’t had to claim. But the process of joining was simple. Price a little higher than competitors and some really confusing wording around multiple trips. But otherwise good.

Review is based on a number of different factors: Price: True Traveller was probably the cheapest out of the best insurances I could find. Comparing this to similair policies from other providers for the same policy period, True Traveller is significantly cheaper than other providers. Money saved = more money to spend on your trip. Cover: Keeping in mind the relatively cheap price point, the basic insurance offers more than sufficient cover on the most important elements I look for in an insurance policy, mainly Medical cover and Personal Liability. This being said, those looking for a more comprehensive policy would be better off with the more expensive packages (still cheaper than most of their competitors). My only disappointment in this area was the insufficient cover available for valuable belongings such as laptops and cameras. I ended up not choosing this option in the end as it was not worth while. User-friendliness: This is one of the things which made me choose True Traveller as my insurance provider. The website is carefully laid out and each policy line is explained carefully on the website, helping you understand better what you’re covered for under each policy. Understanding what you’re covered for can be a daunting task when you’ve never purchased travel insurance before; so this makes choosing True Traveller that much easier. One final note to consider is the fact that its available for most countries in the world. I cam across way too many insurance providers who only sell their products to customers in the UK, so this is also great for anyone outside the UK having trouble in finding an insurance for their travels.
