When travelling overseas, the one thing you should never skimp on is your travel insurance cover, as should things go wrong you want the very best cover for you and your possessions.

At The True Traveller, we’re used to advising people on travelling all around the world, and due to feedback from our customers we’ve changed our insurance website, made it even better value and extended the range of products.

On Single Trips, we offer three Policies called True Value, Traveller and Traveller Plus. True Value is designed for travellers under 40 years of age, and is designed for last minute travellers and backpackers. The Traveller policy, our most popular, is designed for holiday makers and adventurous travellers alike, and Traveller Plus gives enhanced medical and cancellation cover.

On our Multi Trip Policies, again we offer the Traveller policy valid for unlimited trips throughout the year for durations up to 30 days, and the Traveller Plus policy which offers enhanced cover for unlimited trips lasting up to 70 days. We also have a budget True Value Policy for travellers under 40 years of age.

We’ve tried to get the prices as keen as possible on all our insurances. This means on the Single Trip and Multi-Trip you have the option to exclude Baggage Cover as this may well be covered in your Home Contents insurance; you also have the option to add-in different activity packs. The Traveller Pack covers 92 of the regular holiday activities which you will get involved in, and covers clerical/non-manual work as standard. The Adventure Pack covers a further 41 activities and is designed for the more adventurous traveller and backpacker, covering trekking to 4,600m, as well as volunteer work and manual work. The Extreme and Ultimate Packs covers all the more extreme and ultimate adventures. The Extreme covers trekking over 4,600m to any altitude, as well as Scuba Diving to 50M. The Ultimate covers Hang Gliding, Mountaineering and Polo to name just three of the Ultimate adventures!

“I DID NOT HAVE TO CLAIM. Process was easy to navigate, customer agent comprehensively answered questions that I had. On the expensive side, but this was because I took insurance after already having starting traveling”

“Best of a bad lot I suppose. However always helpful and always good service from the contact centre staff and members of the management. Claims dealt with quickly on my last claim 3 years ago. However underwriter has changed so cannot comment now. Had cover for years and will do going forward but it doesn't meet my needs. My only complaint is they are just like every other UK insurer. As soon as there's a travel advisory from the UK Gov you are not covered for that. Yeah I know if your already in the zone it's fine but this is a traveller policy. We move. The COVID cover is invalid. It's currently possibly the biggest global risk. The UK Gov stick travel advisories on for no legitimate reason on countries like Zambia just because of currently 11 cases of Omicron. Yet the UK has many many more cases. So we loose our cover. You also must be vaccinated. Standard terms for UK. So if T is reading this why don't you sort it out. You yourself told me that you've had only a handful of claims for COVID and that only the USA one made your balance sheet. So why don't you get your underwriter to address this as some of the European and USA insurers ones. We want COVID cover irrespective of advisories. If they said don't travel to Juba in South Sudan because if the war....you'd still cover COVID. It's lunacy. Yet if I get shot I'm not covered which is understandable. How many COVID claims have you had...yet it's excluded again for half of Africa. I lost 6 months of my policy this year and my renewal is already invalid on the day I purchased it !!!”

“I can't review properly as my cover hasn't even started yet but I will say that I tried phoning several times before buying the policy because I had some questions. No one ever answered the phone. I called within the correct time frame. Just to add because I can't seem to reply to the response left by true traveller that the phone lines just rang and then after a time cut off. There was no automated answer or response. I also tried to find other contact numbers but it was the same number. So yeah maybe something is wrong?”

Hi Thanks for your review. Our phone lines are automatically answered by a system which announces that you've called TT and goes through some important information which we must disclose for compliance purposes, including of course that all calls are recorded. In this way, we can also track who has called us, and at very busy times, we can then call customers back if they've been kept in the queuing system for too long. We actually haven't had to do this at all recently, as, with all the COVID restrictions, we have been quieter than usual. We do have LiveChat available on our website as well, so from overseas, people can "chat" to us over the website to avoid calling altogether. The True Traveller Team.

“Much easier system for applying for travel insurance than before, when you had to speak to a medical adviser for medical screening. System for claiming more streamlined and less comprehensive form-filling. Did have some issues in the past with US hospital consistently pestering for payment of bills that were covered by insurance. Not encountered that lately.”

“The policy seems really flexible and the team have been extremely helpful clarifying doubts I had over telephone and via email. It seems to be one of the few insurers whose policies aren’t totally invalidated by FCO travel advice against countries because of the Covid risk so more than ideal for my upcoming trip.”
