“I did the Teaching English Online Bundle which I thought was good value and provided an excellent introduction. The course was presented in manageable, accessible and useful units and actually gave insights in some areas, such as lesson formats, that I hadn't got when I did my CELTA a few years ago. Richard, who led the practical sessions, had a superb manner and put everyone at ease, and also provided me with one to to one help using Zoom which was much appreciated. The ongoing career support will no doubt be useful too. I now feel much more confident about working as an online teacher.”

“The course provided a solid foundation of general TEFL teaching methodology and briefly addressed special topics like teaching children or developing online lessons. I especially appreciated the opportunity to develop sample lesson plans and receive timely feedback on them from a tutor. While it was helpful to see how the theory can be applied in the classroom, I felt the examples scattered throughout the modules were sufficient. I didn't learn much from the Video Observation module and I feel that those hours could have been spent more productively going into more detail on teaching methodology.”

“The TEFL qualification provides a solid foundation of the essential knowledge needed for teaching. However, it doesn’t cover everything. Most schools will have their own specific teaching methods and may require you to adapt, which is completely fine because TEFL equips you with the core principles. My main issue with learning TEFL online is that it can be quite monotonous and uninspiring, even if you are passionate about teaching. The lack of variety in the design, such as the color scheme and layout, doesn’t help the experience either. Nevertheless, the content itself is very useful. If you stay focused on your goal and where you want to be upon completion, it’s definitely manageable. The tutors provide valuable advice and insights into lesson planning and classroom management, which can be incredibly helpful. Moreover, TEFL’s job placement network is a great resource, especially since finding a job independently can be quite challenging. Overall, I believe the TEFL course offers good value for the money. I would recommend it, but I do think there is room for improvement in making the material more engaging. It's somewhat ironic that a course designed for teaching professionals is itself rather dry. Hopefully, the TEFL organization will take this feedback into account and make future updates to enhance the learning experience.”

“This course is great, but I have some concerns about the payment structure. It seems unfair to pay so much and then have the course expire if you don't complete it within a certain time frame. This could be really difficult for people with busy schedules, like those juggling work, school, and family. It's disappointing that such a good course has this limitation.”

“I fully endorse the teaching method used by TEFL.org in their Diploma Course. The TEFL grammar was very comprehensive, showing videos of tutor examples and explanations, as well as classroom lessons. It showed me that suitable activities (at student level) using many resources are necessary in maintaining a respectful class, whilst learning sometimes difficult English grammar and pronunciations - and having fun at the same time. A Needs Analysis was emphasised as being the first teacher activity. The TEFL methodology using the PPP lesson plan and other teaching methods, made me realise that general school learning could benefit from this. The entire course prepares TEFL graduates to be able to teach English effectively in any situation (one-on-one, large classes, via telephone and Internet) to engage and inspire the students, to want to learn. The presenters were excellent and the quizzes and assignments were meant to elicit an honest reply - proving that the student had studied diligently.”

“Sadly, I didn't have a great experience with this course. There were good points and I certainly learned many things, but there were some glaring flaws that I found unnecessarily obstructive or outright irritating. For a course that teaches teaching, I didn't find the teaching to be particularly helpful and the course's own advice wasn't really followed (at least by my tutor). The real sad truth is that by the end of this course I wanted to do anything but teach English... It sucked out all the enthusiasm I had for this subject. There were 4 major issues I had with this course: 1) Certain subjects were either over-taught or under-taught. The information relating to Gerunds was very brief for example and I never fully grasped it from the course. The course also speaks about the 'Schwa phonetic' and even tests you on it, but never actually explains what it is. This is in contrast to the overly lengthy information about how the throat pronounces different phonetics which was overkill and far too detailed. 2) Exam questions are often written poorly and often contradictory. I found myself too often having to try and work out what the question was actually asking even when I knew the subject or answer. I failed a test because although I knew the subject and the answer, the answers listed were so obtuse, I couldn't determine which one to choose. I failed an exam 3 times not due to poor subject knowledge, but the questions being worded poorly. 3) The process to redo an exam if failed is TERRIBLE. This is one of the most backwards processes I've ever seen for a course. If you fail, you're told to contact 'Thomas' (I still have no idea who this Thomas guy even is...), where you confess your sins and ask for redemption for another try. It was like being sent to a headteacher. After failing ONCE this entire course, Thomas told me he'll reset the course 'ONE LAST TIME'. What do you mean 'one last time'? What then? Thankfully I never had to find out, but a bizarre threat after a single failure isn't a great way to encourage learning. In fact, I just felt like an inconvenience for him and their IT department. Thomas then told me to contact him before a final attempt, which I did on another exam but he never responded. I chased him for help and still no reply. My tutor also said she couldn't help. In the end, I did it myself and thankfully passed as I still never got a reply. This process is incredibly dumb and discouraging. 4) Tutors are not tutors, they're nothing more than assessors. Sadly, I found my tutor Denise (Dee) to be unhelpful and at times even rude. I don't to be unkind in my review, but I found her to be unnecessarily critical over minor details and failing me over tiny things. It simply killed any creativity and joy I had towards the course and teaching as a whole and found myself adding things awkwardly to assessments just to tick certain boxes. I didn't find her responses useful. On one occasion after a failed attempt she sent her feedback which wasn't very clear. After then failing the second attempt, SHE COPIED AND POSTED THE SAME UNHELPFUL FEEDBACK. At this point, I emailed her for extra help and said I couldn't understand the feedback. She then copied and pasted the same feedback A THIRD TIME. I'm not an idiot. If it didn't help last time, it won't help the 3rd time you send it. I felt she wasn't there to teach, she was just there to assess and did so very critically. It was just demoralising. Getting any real help felt like getting blood out of a stone. I found myself relying on external sources and other websites more than my tutor. This was in complete contrast to what the course says a good tutor should be. I'm thankful for the things I did learn, but I felt the support was poor, the process to reset an exam was very poor, and the fact that it's put me off teaching to be very sad.”

“Wouldn’t recommend this course. I’ve had no help off a ‘tutor’ other than him marking my work. I’ve got half way through and pressed an incorrect button which made the course mark my work when non of it was answered making me fail. After contacting and asking if it can be resolved, they agreed to reset that exam. 2 weeks have gone by and nothing has been done and no one is answering my email. It’s not a very good set up and a mistake of marking all answers without being answered shouldn’t be able to happen. Also when on the final attempt there should be a stop signal so your tutor can ask what you’re struggling with to make sure you pass your final attempt.”
