There should be more interactive exercises, too boring

Although the TEFL website may appear quite comprehensive, in my opinion, it doesn't really offer any idea of what the content of the courses might consist of in practice.

Thanks for the great feedback Barry. We're acutally looking into this at the moment as we are planning a website redesign. Regards, Alan, TEFL Adviser

The course I rate very highly (4 -5 star) The induction process was far from clear - hence indifferent review.

Hi Roy, Thanks for the great feedback. We're currently looking at redesigning our website so we'll definitely be reviewing the sign-up process. Regards, Alan, TEFL Adviser

I would like to know how much time should be spent on each section. Being a 60's child my knowledge of tenses is sparse and now being 55 it's quite difficult to remember new concepts. I'm taking notes on each slide to support me in the tests which has been beneficial to a point. As a teacher I feel confident in how to teach and I would plan a lesson by referring to my notes and obviously I would become more competent the more experience I would have. (I'm now feeling I'm using the incorrect tense!!) I suggest you produce a booklet to accompany the course (perhaps you have one but I'm not aware of it) I've obtained a copy of Practical English Usage but haven't opened it very much yet, it doesn't look user friendly!

Hello Deborah, Thank you for your feedback. We do give some guidance on timescales for each module (e.g. 30 hours dedicated towards English grammar module, 20 hours for the video observation module) but all online coursework is self-paced so you can study at a time and pace that suits you. You may want to spend longer on some topics/assignments than others. We do have downloadable PDF resources - end of unit/module summaries. Regards, Alan, TEFL Advisor

I rang to ask about the course. The man I spoke to did tell me the basics of how the course progressed but I did have to draw information from him that I thought should have been forthcoming such as whether or not I needed certain qualifications to be accepted onto the course. All in all though he was clear and accepted my deposit. The transaction was efficient.

The classroom course was excellent but I have had a few problems with emails allegedly being sent and not recieving anything at my end - in the end though I did recieve everything that I needed (I hope) - even simple things like a course confirmation or even a bill proved impossible to recieve on my email account for a couple of weeks. I found the call handlers in Scotland a bit abrupt and all too keen to add on admin fees of £10 willy nilly. My tutor took over a week to sign his agreement form, then he sent what seemed like a rather brusque email that he had actually sent it the week before (even though the person on the TELF.org chat box had said the day before I heard from my tutor that the tutor had filled in the form but hadn't actually signed it or pressed 'ok', whetever he had to do to confirm it). It just seems a bit tatty from my point of view and I don't like bearing any kind of brunt when I happen not to have recieved an email through no fault of my own. Its not a problem with my email account because, as I say, emails do get through to me in the end (on the same account) when they absolutely have to. But as I say the course in London was excellent and Asif (I think thats his name) really did a brilliant job.

Dear Alan, You and Louis were both very polite when I spoke to you on the phone. I did have a problem and explained it to Louis. I enrolled on the last day of the summer sale and received a 30 pct discount. It was clearly advertised that this was the END of the summer sale..... A week or so later I received an email from your company informing me that the summer sale was hotting up and there was now a 35 pct discount. I spoke to Louis and he told me that if I payed the Balance that day I could also take advantage of the later offer. Unfortunatley when I looked that evening I couldn´t find anywhere to pay it. To be honest I thought that it was bad business practice and was a bit disappointed with your company. Saying that I´m looking forward to starting the course. Sue

The course itself was interesting, generally very well taught, with a couple of glaring holes which I still don't understand - namely conditionals and transitional verbs. My main issue with TEFL as an organisation is that I booked a 50 hour course for £159, then found out that it was an inadequate course to actually teach anywhere, so tried to upgrade to the minimum 120 hour course, for which I had to pay full price, as if I had never done the 50 hour course, I was offered no discount. That's all Otherwise, they seem a reputable company

Hello Joe, Thanks for the feedback. Our online course tutors are available throughout your studies if you are not sure about the topics covered or need any points clarified. We do our best to advise students on course options but it is ultimately down to the student's personal preference. A £100 discount was applied to your second course booking. I am due to start your Tefl course this coming weekend and all information has been provided swiftly and clearly. However I opted to pay installments for the course and was shocked this morning to find without notice you withdrew £219.00. Notice of payments would have highly beneficial allowing me to prepare and manage my finances. kind Regards Michele

I'm doing the grammar part of this course, and I'm finding it quite interesting - I'm a native English speaker, with several degrees, and I'm still learning things. However, I find some of the suggested Youtube videos rather annoying (some of the English spoken isn't of the best quality). Within the Grammar and Language element itself, the way things are explained, within the Grammar Section, could also be clearer; most students will expect a more modern layout, including text boxes with important ideas in them. I also think that the Review Tests are irritating, as you have to get all the right answers in the right boxes, otherwise you can get 0/10 if you go wrong right at the beginning. And there are a couple of outright mistakes ..

Hi - I have only just started the 100 hour online course so, to be honest, I have not really done enough to give valid feedback. The only query I have at this early stage is who my tutor is but I am sure when I get going this will become clear!! Feel free to ask me again for a review on completion. Mary Lou

Hello, Your program is solid. The grammar lesson is thorough. The tech support is not so good. I'm having trouble viewing your videos and have slow response times to commands. James here in Beijing has tried to help but his proposed solution is cumbersome. Do you have a vpn web site that could help with these issues?

Cannot finish course as my assignments for module C are not marked, I have had emails confirming submission. I have written and stored at home every assignment for C4 and all Ds but until C1-C3 are marked I cannot move forward! I have completed ALL online quizzes as well. Very frustrating! There is a huge grammatical error on the A module - grammar! I suggest the team checks all the slides for accuracy. Equally, it would be worthwhile havind a brief section on Equal Ops et al. Seems to be completely overlooked from a teaching perspective, new teachers could get a nasty shock!

I found some elements of the course useful and thought-provoking, particularly the content around child development. I also enjoyed doing the first review assignment. However, it was disconcerting to see so many grammatical and spelling mistakes in the course content (you don't really expect this on a TEFL course!), and I don't think that one month is long enough for the course. This is particularly the case given that the final assignment is pretty huge. For me, being tasked with writing three lesson plans without real-time interaction with a tutor was excessive, and for that reason I won't be completing the remainder of the course, which is a real shame.

Hello David, Thank you for your feedback on our Teaching Young Learners course. I’m sorry to hear that you will not be completing it. Our tutors are available if you need any support or advice on assignments. As this is an advanced TEFL course, timescales given to complete coursework/tasks are sufficient – both by tutors and student standards. I’ll highlight the issue of spelling mistakes to our Online Courses Manager to get this rectified as soon as possible. Regards, Alan, TEFL Advisor

my only complaint is that I finished two months ago and still haven't been given my full grade, I spent a lot on this course, I want at least something from it, I'm really irritated, I worked hard.

Mostly O.K so far. Little frustrated that I rushed to sign up for February deal, then received an email a few days later, with an offer where I would have saved more money off the course!

I am currently working my way through 120 hour on- line course. I am now up to unit 8. I have tried to download/upload completed assignment 1 to submission page but was not able to do this due to a browser compatibility. When I have completed review quizzes I may try to download another browser. I am currently using Google Chrome. I notice that there are some grammatical errors and typos in the course booklet. As you can see I'm halfway through the course and I will be able to assess the course more clearly when I have completed it. best regards James Hanley

I found that a lot of the quiz questions had multiple answers, and no way of knowing which would be the better suited answer. For example one question asked to make a phrase using the words provided, but 'I am going to take up hiking when we move back' and 'When we move back, I am going to take up hiking' are both correct English phrases, yet there is only one word order. Also, I found the video material to be really out dated and difficult to decipher. So grainy the white boards can't be seen and the sound quality is so poor you can't hear what the subjects are saying, yet we have to answer detailed questions about the videos. Alternatively, I found that my tutor, Thomas, was helpful and knowledgeable.
