Hi Alan, I did enrol recently for your course, but I have been away travelling. Am now back and keen to get started, so I will go through the various e-mails I have received and hopefully start making some progress soon ! I will respond to other e-mails as appropriate. Kind regards, Peter W.

I give 'normal' because the three day practical course I attended in Cardiff was excellent, however I was unable to complete the on-line course because I left the UK for Indonesia and could not get internet connection sufficient to complete course. I felt that I was not informed that if I didn't complete on-line I would be classed as a failure. I didn't even get a certificate of attendance for the three day practical course. I'm now living in Indonesia without a TEFL cert. of any description.

Hello John, I'm glad you enjoyed our classroom course in Cardiff. As your course was initially going to be funded by a government body, it was their requirement that you complete the complete course (both classroom and online coursework) within the timescale they set. We are happy to send you a certificate for completing your classroom course. Our admin team will be in touch to get your postal address in Indonesia. Regards, Alan, TEFL Advisor

I was personally a little disappointed with the main content so far, although the grammar module was extremely enjoyable...and very informative. Actually I loved this bit! However, my biggest problem was finding the time to do the course with a busy job etc, and after requesting it be put on hold - which was denied vigorously - I felt very upset having to fork out another large sum of money to extend the course. Since it's not really a subscription product that I bought into, and your competitors allow unlimited time, the only fair conclusion to your paid extension policy is that it is a revenue stream. This is far enough since I clearly signed up for a six month course. But this factor, and considering your competitors allow unlimited time free of charge, I slightly regret choosing your course (although I am sure in the long run with its strong brand that won't last), and would possibly not recommend you. Perhaps you should rethink this policy. I would certainly welcome the fruits of any change of heart during these extended three months, as I try hopefully successfully to complete the course without further cost. But overall I am happy enough, would have been much more so had I not had to pay more cash out though!

Initially it's difficult to know where and how to start. I just jumped in at the deep end and have now completed the grammar section so have got used to how things work but maybe it could be simplified at first for example 1.... then 2.... then 3.... If you have plenty of time and aren't working then there's time to read and digest everything but I'm working and trying to fit this round my job so I don't have a lot of time, I need to get straight to the point and quickly. Also some of the activity explanations aren't clear. You need to give an example of how to do each one rather than just an explanation of what to do. No further comments as yet.

I think the course is quite good value and the website is easy to use. However, what they won't tell you - naturally - is that with this kind of online qualification it is a lot harder to get work. Most advertised TEFL jobs now want a CELTA (a more extensive, expensive qualification) and more experience. I would advertise anyone to research choosing a TEFL programme thoroughly before paying for one - i.e. looking at what current jobs are asking for - because given my time again I don't think I would pay out for this qualification a second time.

Hello Anna, Thank you for your feedback. CELTA courses are great but not suitable for everyone - cost, the month-long commitment and location are just some of the obstacles for prospective students. Our TEFL courses are accredited by the British Accreditation Council and accepted by employers the world over. Some schools do require teacher applicants to have previous EFL teaching experience depending on the teaching position, but not all. Regards, Alan, TEFL Advisor

Dear Sirs, I actually need / want to know if I can Re-start the course which I paid for last year!? My Mother suffered a severe Stroke on St Patrick's Day 2013 and is now in need of 24/7 care. She, and my elderly Father live in Ripon, and I am here in Harrow. I have spent so much time travelling up & down the A1 to support them, so no time to even begin my TEFL course! I got as far as reading the very beginning of the course but have not submitted anything back to TEFL. Lately my friends son suggested that I may find work over in Jericoacoara in Brasil, where he is based, so I really would like to know what you can suggest as a re-start option! Many thanks, Tracey Patterson

Hi Alan The course is hard going for me.I am 62 years old and obviously teaching and learning methods have changed drastically over time.I have a friend(ex.teacher)who is also of the mind it's a tough course...especially with no immediate feed back as from the likes of face to face instruction.I may have bitten off more than I can chew..but I'll give it my best shot.I will be moving to Asia and will need some kind of income and I have been assured by friends there now who tell me there is miles of freelance work.I can only try. There is an enormous range of books I would require, costing a lot of money,so I will just have to see how it goes. Thanks... Gene

Thank you for your review Gene. Our online tutors are happy to help if you have any questions about the coursework, and of course supply feedback on all your written assignments. Not all our tutors are online at the same time as their students so they aren't able to give immediate feedback. A maximum of 48 hours is set for tutors to get back to students and the majority feedback well within this timeframe. I'm sure once you have completed your course, you will go on to find many freelance TEFL positions in Asia. Regards, Alan, TEFL Advisor

The course overall was flexible and informative. The tutors and teachers were enthusiastic, as well as very quick with their marking. However, there were consistently a lot of errors and typos within the online course and review tests, and image links also did not work. The TEFL videos were of low sound quality and the word limit for some of the assignments were too low and constrained.

Thank you for the feedback Sharon. Our online team are scheduled to review all course content including tests and assignments within the next few months. We are also looking into alternative video streaming software to improve the sound quality of our course videos. Regards, Alan, TEFL Advisor

I am very happy with my tefl course. It was very helpful to have Adam helping me with the exercises. However I think the course it's very hard . Sometimes I got a lower grade on the exercises because I didn't understand what I had to do and there wasn't any example. I didn't finish my course yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Hello Ines, Thanks for the great feedback - I'm glad you are getting the support you need from Adam. You will be happy to know that we are currently making improvements to the course to make it more user-friendly and assignment instructions clearer (with examples to help). Overall the course was good and informative. My tutor was very prompt with giving feedback and gave very helpful commentary on my assignments. However I do think the automatic marking on some of the quizes was not very good. I lost marks on a question where you had to put the words in the right order to form a sentence for putting the "wrong" word 'to' in each place, according to the marking the 'to's were in the wrong place despite being the exact same word. There were other instances where I believe my answers were not incorrect just that I had not used the exact phrases you were after. I think it is unfair to penalise people for that kind of error as redoing the quiz can be time consuming. I think there should be multiple options for answers where they are written if there are multiple ways which it could be expressed correctly.

When I retired 6 months ago I knee jerked and booked a course based on powerful marketing by TEFL. In the following months I found that most jobs required a degree and I wouldn't be able to get much work with just TEFL. This is disappointing and misleading. My 35 years of experience as a sales director and my HND in business studies don't count. I cancelled my course

Hello Dean, Some countries, such as Japan, South Korea and Thailand require you to have a university degree in order to get the correct working visa, however you can find work in many countries around the world with a TEFL Org UK certificate. We do have an online job centre where you can filter jobs that require/do not require a degree http://www.tefl.org.uk/tefl-jobs/. I'd really urge you to take another look and reconsider teaching English as a foreign language. Regards, Alan, TEFL Advisor

Excellent course but still waiting for my certificate about six weeks after finishing course. Seems to take longer than the course takes to complete!
