Overall, the course is affordable compared to many of the other offerings online, but the actual content is pretty mediocre. It places a huge emphasis on teaching grammar over anything else. However, during the two day in-person part of the course (which was my favorite part, since the practice actually seemed relevant), my teacher told us not to worry too much about the grammar, as that's normally the job of the native language teacher. So I would say, opt for as much in-person as possible, and at least the online portion will get you your certificate. And try not to stress too much when tutors nitpick your online assignments. If you keep submitting, even if it's just rewording your original idea, you can eventually pass without having to purchase an extension.

TEFL had many useful tips, ideas, and structures that will be useful when I am teaching.

I would have liked to have learnt about tenses earlier on in the course. I found some of the beginning of the course confusing (as if I had missed out on a section) until finally I got to the section on tenses.

Hello Lynn, Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on our course - we really appreciate it. We try to cover tenses, and grammar in general, at the beginning of the course so you are fully prepared when you get to the teaching methodology and video observation modules of the course. I'll definitely feed this back to our academic team. Kind regards, Alan, TEFL Advisor

I enjoyed the two day course because it was engaging and very useful. I am doing TEFL level 5 and when I bought the course I explained that I only want to teach online. After I booked the course and attended for the two days I started applying for jobs. This was a mistake as every application I have found so far requires a degree and a TEFL to teach online. Therefore, I couldn’t recommend taking a TEFL unless you have a degree. This would have been helpful advice before I went ahead with the TEFL 5.

I haven't yet begun my TEFL course but I must admit I have not had the best start. I am currently a final year university student and decided to make the most of the 1/3 off courses offer back in early february. I was aware that you only had 6 months to complete the online course (without having to buy extensions) and throughout the order/payment process I was looking out for TEFL to tell me when exactly that 6 months would begin (as it does not say it anywhere on the website). It gave the option to pay £50 deposit or pay in full. Initially I was going to pay the deposit but then I thought I may as well pay in full so I don't have to worry about it till I graduate. However, that immediately began the 6 month clock I have to complete the online course, when I still have 4 months of university to complete first. I contacted TEFL immediately and explained the confusion and explained how there was no clear message saying it would begin straightaway (and that on the deposit one you can wait until 2 weeks before your classroom slot). They said there was nothing they could do and that I will just have to buy extensions, which is annoying for me as there was not point trying to make the most of the offer when i am going to have to spend extra anyway. I am still excited to start TEFL but I do feel that my excitement has been clouded by this unfortunate mishap. I wish it was made clearer so I could have gone with the deposit option. This is my only experience of TEFL so far.

This course was not very challenging or interesting to be honest. The questions were designed to be easily passed, and I had expected to feel a little more engaged. I suspect that even a non-teacher could pass this course because of the way the questions were designed to elicit just plain common sense. It wouldn't hurt to make this course a little more challenging. The questions need to be re-written completely to ensure that candidates have actually read and absorbed the previous information, because as it stands they can be answered using guess work and common sense. It feels like the designer of this course was pushed for time and not all that interested in making it fun. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either.

The course is really comprehensive and detailed. I feel confident that the information and materials provided are useful for beginning a TEFL career. The videos are great and provide practical examples of how a TEFL teacher might plan a lesson. There are a few user experience issues with the website - I've experienced some problems viewing test feedback and retrying tests can often be lengthy. It would be great if I could just revisit the questions I got wrong, rather than having to do the whole thing again. I did notice that the Tefl Org UK online course says there are 13 tenses in the English language, while most people would agree there are actually 12. We discussed this in the classroom part of the course and think it's worth raising. It's not great to have facts contradicted by two separate components of the same course and wonder if there's a way of rectifying that, so there is no ambiguity? The classroom course was great and really thorough and gave me extra confidence that this is the right career path for me.

I think the idea of tefl is great, I’m studying to give me the option in the future to quit my job and be able to teach English somewhere else in the world. I have had to pause my study due to work commitments but will achieve by the date needed. However, I cannot believe the videos that are on the course to watch! They are so boring, so uninteresting and not engaging at all. I am currently a drama teacher so little bit experience teaching English but why have you used a class that has so many awkward silences and breaks and mistakes as an example! The videos are making me not want to teach as I would worry all my classes would be as boring. I think this is a major issue that needs to be updated very soon.

I have signed up to the 50 hour online course. There needs to be more detail on what each course comprises to make selection easier. The course itself is well structured and easy to follow.

It does the job to help get you the certificate in order to teach but it is a real struggle to work through as there are issues with videos not loading, clicking 'Next module' sometimes not working on mobile device, some of what i type does not register and very often i keep getting re-directed to the home page

The course is good however if you don’t have the self discipline to apply yourself you shouldn’t do it. I also thought that I would be a part of a live class room, this is not the case. However under these circumstances and the need to get this done quickly and effectively it has been the best choice.

I haven't done the course yet. i was due to do it next week but cant because I have a funeral to attend in Cheshire on the middle day. I was very disappointed to be told that there was a £75 fee for rearranging it - which seems exhorbitant

There were far too many grammar mistakes, most of which were run-on sentences, within the course itself. It reflected very poorly on TEFL Org UK, considering the purpose of the organisation. There were even mistakes in the videos of tutors teaching students (A tutor wrote something like "Footballer's earn too much money" on the board at one point. I mean, really??).

06.09.18 As a person whose first language is English, I find some of the explanations unjustifiable take for example Attachment #2. The answer is ‘false’ yet the system marks the question wrong. The explanation given proves or confirms that my answer is correct! Similarly, the explanation given for ordering adjectives does not quite seem to be in keeping with attachments 1 and 3. After all, ‘silver’ is a colour and it is a material. I quite frankly don’t know how to rate this course as an English course whether it be for native English speakers or persons learning for the first time as to me it only seems that it would lead to further difficulty with understanding the rules of English. I understand that it is a matter of being able to communicate ‘how to teach English’ to non – English speakers whose language structure does not allow for certain parts of speech, but still! It is a shame that my country is not recognised as an English country, after all we were once a British colony, that’s the reason I am taking this course. But to some degree so far, at least for the grammar part, I find it a bit insulting even though it serves as review for me. However, since I have not completed the course, rating it at this point would be unfair. 07.09.18 The response received with respect to the initial review seems to have focused on one issue raised. Other issues concerning explanations and justifications for correct and incorrect answers were merely ignored and brushed under the carpet. Thank you.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your course so far. We're sorry to hear that you are having difficulties with this section of the grammar module. We recommend using the standard adjective order provided on the course (opinion, size, age, shape, colour, origin, material, use) so the correct order for the example provided is "flashy, new, Italian racing car". If you do encounter any further issues with the grammar module, or would like anything clarified, you can always contact our academic team on support@tefl.org.uk. Regards, Alan, TEFL Advisor

For an online course it was quite good and engaging, I found the demo lessons particularly interesting. I found that some of the grammar rules were a bit oversimplified.
