“Great experience in every regard - content, format, tests and assignments AND TUTORS!!! One thing that was a little peculiar was... English. The TEFLorg is, as I understand it, a British organization, and as such has basically inclination to teach British English. That was noticible with English vocabulary and grammar. On the other hand, most teachers in the videos did not have clear British accent, but rather more like American English accent. Overall, it created an impression that the Program is trying to teach some mixed, blended English, which at some points was a little confusing, e.g. when some British forms were standing out from the blended standards. I believe that was done for marketing purposes - one Program fits all, but is that really so? It was ok for me, as British and American English were not crashing into each other too much. I just wonder if TEFL org could declare their stand on the issue. And I understand the approach "We want to teach HOW to teach English, no matter what kind of English is that".”

On your point about British and American English, we’re a UK-based organisation and our materials generally follow British English. However, we support students worldwide, including many who go on to teach in countries where American English is preferred, so our approach reflects the international nature of TEFL. There;s also the option to enroll on a British English or American English course. It’s also worth noting that some of the accents you heard will have been Scottish rather than American, as we’re based in Scotland, UK, and our tutors come from a range of different backgrounds. “Overall a good course, but at the end i received a message stating the course wasn't completed and i had to pay more to finish it. Even through i had passed the assignment with fullmarks and very positive remarks from the tutor. This was extremely stressful as my finances are limited. It was found to be an error on behalf of the IT department. I hope nowi have 2 certicates it will help to getteaching jobs here in France when i move further down south.”

“I am surprised by how quickly the tutor replied. His comments were very useful and helped me improve my assignment. There were many PPP lesson plan assignments throughout the course, which helped me remember and apply the PPP framework. The support from the tutor and the follow-up emails after each course reminded me to keep going on my learning journey. I think this course is useful not only for teaching but also for my work, especially when explaining processes or providing internal staff training. I am glad that I chose this course. “Useful and in depth courses, with lots of good resources provided. Written assignments were good means of testing knowledge. Minor complaint is some quiz questions seemed very subjective.”

“Please be aware if you plan on taking the level 5 course that you will not wait 48 hours for your online certificate as they promise, but over 2 weeks. The physical certificate will not be mailed out for several more weeks after that. They will not support you with any documentation for employers in the meantime.”

“The courses were interesting and simple to follow with masses of information, especially the Grammar Course. In marking the online quizzes, where I passed first time, but maybe with 80% or 90%, and went back in to correct my mistakes as part of the learning process, my results were recorded as 100% 2nd attempt, which suggests I did not pass first time. This might disincentivise some. Perhaps recording BOTH pass results might be better. My tutors were prompt and helpful with alternative suggestions.”

“It's great to take the courses module by module, which gives me clear guidance in terms of English teaching. Also, tutors provide constructive feedback so that I can have a solid foundation concerning PPP lesson structure. What's better, there are plethora of teaching resources, websites, teaching activities, and teaching materials included, which can also come in handy for future teaching scenarios. All in all, I have a wonderful experience in TEFL, and I have much more confidence in my future teaching career.”

“I feel like the video courses need to be updated significantly, especially to include newer technology. There were several times I submitted an assignment with activities designed similar to the ones in the video lessons (printed photos etc) and needed to revise, and my tutor asked me to use video or gif examples instead. It was a great suggestion by my tutor, but I felt that the videos severely lacked prepping us for teaching in 2026. I also felt that the assignments were very poorly written and often confusing. It’s clear from a simple Reddit search that they haven’t changed in the last 7+ years and people continue to struggle with the structure. Often the 100-250 word cap felt like way too few words to express what was needed in the assignments. This could be such a great course and I felt like it just fell really flat. My tutor was helpful and gave great suggestions.”

“Honestly, I’m glad I started teaching before doing a TEFL certification because I would have found it overwhelming and I would have felt very unprepared if I had taken this course before. There’s a lot of emphasis on creating perfect lesson plans, but isn’t supportive in offering a curriculum as a guide. Tutors want to make sure you make the most perfect lesson plan, but won’t actually help you in creating practical materials. It’s literally about completing assignments the way they want you to, not about learning in the process (much like normal school, I guess.) The videos often didn’t have subtitles or the ability to change the speed - there were a lot of conversations between students that were unclear, not exactly high quality learning material. There was no video example for teaching large groups. Overall, it was a large survey of information but not a practical and useful preparation guide to succeed in teaching. I hope the certificate itself is useful in some way, but the “training” wasn’t.”
