“The handrail is great but the stress of trying to get it delivered outweighs that. The website is very clever so long as it works and the buyer is very techy. Trying to speak to a human is too hard. Straight after ordering I received regular text messages about delivery being imminent. However, they stopped and no delivery happened until I chased it up 12 days later.”

“Not had the handrail delivered yet but the communication has been poor and the delivery has been marked as completed even though it hasn't been delivered yet... UPDATE: Now been delivered and a couple of points on the product: - Missing a few screws (plastic end cap ones), - The wood was quite warped so took a fair amount of manhandling to get on (I kept it flat after it was delivered so it wasn't how I was storing it) - The end caps are not finished very well, one was fine but the other was not fully finished - The end caps needed adhesive to stay on, which was not described in the instructions so I'm not sure if that's expected The finished article looks good but was a real pain to fit with regular annoyances”

“Handrail is nice quality and was delivered well packaged, though no instructions or guidance for fitting. Fitting the end caps required drilling a hole precisely into the centre of the end of the pole - any tiny fraction of a millimetre out and it really shows afterwards. Would suggest either supplying a drilling template with the rail, or else making the spigot adjustable so it can be aligned. In the end I had to modify the ones that were sent so that I could adjust the alignment. A bit disappointing on such an expensive product. Looks good now it's in though”

Hi John Thank you for your review. All our rails come in kit form to allow customers to cut down if needed. All our fitting instructions are online. I am sorry you have had issues in attaching the end caps, they are really simple to align if you use a rubber mallet they do move over to square up. Any issues please give us a message or phone call. “Very disappointed i ordered from the internet from a photo showing a darkish oak finished rail The rails that i have received are bare wood and unfinished I now have to prepare them, stain them and find a stain that is close to what i thought id ordered These rails are not cheap and i feel unhappy”

Hi Roy, Thank you for your review. These are the best quality Oak handrail on the market made from real solid certified oak. All the fittings are of the highest quality. The handrails on the website are stated that they are unfinished along with the photo saying that they are finished in Danish Oak. I am sorry you feel miss led but this certainly isnt the case. “Delivery was really quick, the Handrail was really hard work to screw into, we pre drilled the holes but the wood was ridiculously tough, the screws that they sent with it just bared and we're less than useless. For over £200 for a long length of wood and 4 hinges i did expect the option of having the holes predrilled and making this a much easier item to install, took us a lot longer to install than our last one which was a similar product.”

Hi Claire, Thank you for your review. All our handrails are solid timber and this is the difference between us and competitors. The drilling of the oak/ walnut is fairly straightforward but obviously with the rails being solid it does make the task a little harder. The screws are stainless steel to match the brackets and they are softer then standard mild steel screws. We do sell 100s of these rails with very few problems so I am sorry you feel this way about the product. If you do need any more screws or further help we will gladly assist you. “Delivery service and supply I couldn’t fault. Finish on the handrail itself was different than expected. Ordered to match and existing handrail, Picture on website showed a darker coloured oak.”

Hi Peter, Thank you for your review. There is a couple of things that I would like to bring to your attention. The oak we supply is a natural product and can vary. The product on our website has been treated with one coat of danish oil. The item you ordered stated that this was an unfinished section of oak. “When I chased up my delivery , I was told it was going to be a week later due to a faulty batch of wood , I therefore had to rearrange the fitting of the handrail . When the fitting happened this weekend I found that the end of the rail was split , but needed to fit and stain due carpets being fitted this week”

“The service was okay. The oak handrail quality is poor, small split in the end of the handrail and the finish required lots of rubbing/sanding to get a finish to apply seal. Disappointing.”

“I am unable to write a review as I have not yet received my order despite paying extra for assured delivery before 24 Dec so would appreciate a refund of the express delivery charge. My husband was released from hospital on Christmas Day and the handrails are essential for him to manage our stairs. Please look into your delivery service and check where my order is. All I can tell is that it was despatched on 23 Dec. Thank you.”

As per our conversation, we are on up to 7 working days and you are also in a remote part of Scotland which doesn't help with the current courier issues. “I suppose I was expecting too much, but I found that trying to identify the centre of the rail end was frustrating in the extreme, surely a simple template to go with the kit would be much easier. Also, both rails had splits to the ends. One I managed to cut off without shortening it too much, but the other it too long to do that. So I am left having to fill the split with filler and hope not too many people notice it. Why didn’t I complain? Because being a cynic I feel sure that the response would be that I had somehow managed to damage it myself. Pity, because the rails look good when fitted.”

“We bought a stainless steel handrail, well made, but a few improvements are needed, I was dissapointed that there were no fitting instructions, also one of the end plugs is not fitted properly,don’t know how to overcome that one. Also the screws are 60mm long and the plastic plugs are 35mm long is this a good fit. Regards, Ian Rex.”

“Handrail was fixed onto the wall yesterday by a tradesman. He was not impressed with the quality, the wood was bowed he had to use extra tools and a different way of attaching it onto the brackets where this was the case. There was also a split in the end of the rail, this was the end at the bottom of my stairs so it’s really obvious. Really disappointed, this was not cheap in my opinion.”

“Ordered 2x2m oak and brass handrails. Arrived on time but contents do not match images - images I have realised too late, show a finished handrail (stained or varnished) description states unfinished - result now having to treat handrails before use. To the company - don’t show finished products - show what we are getting - very misleading.”

Hi Antony, Thank you for your reply. This really is a poor review to read as it paints SimpleHandrails.co.uk in a deceitful way. The photos of your rail do not have any finish on them and the description of the product also states unfinished. There are many different options for finishing the handrails and we can't satisfy everyone with their own tastes. We have tried to reach out to you to sort this issue and you have also declined.
