I was given a subscription as a gift and I love the balance between being able to use the blurbs to be confident the book I get will be something I like, while still retaining an element of surprise. “I am a keen reader who always has at least two or three books on the go, but I admit to doing most of that reading on my Kindle, so it has been a forgotten pleasure to hold an actual print and paper book again, to admire the cover, to watch my physical progress through the book and even to smell the newness of the pages! I love being introduced to writers and titles I’d probably never have chosen myself and to feel challenged into really thinking about them, whether I like them or not (and if not, why). I admit I haven’t yet contributed to an online forum (only two books in, but I do mean to sometime soon!), but love to read what others are saying and to feel I am sharing the experience. They're always beautifully packaged, and I love how Rare Birds takes the faff out of it by just sending you the book-club books (as opposed to just nominating a book, and then you have to scrape around to find it yourself). “I LOVE Rare Bird Book store but I live in Glasgow and don’t go to Edinburgh much. Whenever I visit the capital it’s my first port of call. I love everything they stand for and there are always so many books I want to read! I have a bit of a habit of buying tonnes of books at once and then don’t always get through them so when I saw they had a book club it sounded perfect! I LOVE the way it’s set up, each month you get and email prompting you to choose your book from two descriptions. I’ve already read two books I would t have picked up myself and loved them both!
