“I love the range of lamps and shades but it is problematic to purchase if you are in the EU. The lamp and base I purchased were subject to customs VAT. The company despatched the shade in one box and the base in a second box but attached the same invoice to both boxes which arrived as two separate deliveries and customs therefore charged the VAT twice. Pooky did refund me the duplicated VAT as it was their packing error but it was a lot of hassle for me and many emails and phonecalls to both Pooky and DPD customs.”

International orders are usually subject to customs charges, and this is usually calculated based on the weight and dimensions of the boxes, as well as factors such as the value and destination. “I've just converted a boxroom to a study, and needed a lamp for the new desk. The Phileas is lovely, and gives flexibility when it comes to positioning the furniture, as I don't need to place it near the (limited) power sockets. The brass Ruckle shade looks good, but doesn't let a lot of light through. I already have a Hernan rechargeable lamp with a brass shade, so thought this would work as effectively, but the Hernan has the bulbs built into the base of the shade, so gives a better light. I'll be using the study after Christmas, so will get a better idea then about how effective this combination turns out to be, but it does look great.”
