“Purchased Native Traditional Mix (Wild 1) and at first things looked promising with good germination and growth. However, only 4 species in the mix developed, 3 of them blue producing disappointing results. In the end dug the lot up and will look elsewhere next season.”

Thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear you were disappointed. I would like to reassure you that this mix contains both annual and perennial wildflowers. There are 4 annual species in the mix: Cornflower, Corn Poppy, Borage and Scented Mayweed. These are the species expected to flower in the first year, which it sounds like you had! The rest of the mix is made up of perennial wildflowers. Perennials do not flower in their first year; they spend the first season establishing roots and leafy growth. You would normally expect to start seeing these come through from year two onwards, with the meadow becoming more varied in year three and beyond. So while the first year only presents annuals, this does not mean the mix has failed. It is part of the normal establishment process for a perennial wildflower meadow. If you are looking for a full display in year one, I would recommend choosing an annuals-only mix. “Given meadows take a few years to establish it’s far too soon to judge but if the results shown by others with established meadows are anything to go by then I’m in for a real treat. What I can confirm is the seeds were plentiful, varied, appeared healthy and cheaper than most others. Detailed advice on sowing and maintenance was also included.”
