I used local building surveyors when I was required to get a RIC S level 3 survey done on a house that we wanted to buy. We found Watsons & they were completely useless. The survey was carried out by an associate partner & no mortgage lender would recognise the survey. I could just as well have got £600 & put it down a drain somewhere. It has been an absolutely dreadful experience.

Dear Matt Sorry to hear of your negative experience. But Watson's are not one the surveyors listed on our site, so I think you probably also used a competitor's site and found them through that. Best regards Local Building Surveyors

I received a number of email responses and followed up with two firms, spoke to both and promised calls back which never came.

I hired a building surveyor - Bruce Gray who owns Grays Building Consultants (Tunbridge Wells) to provide a comprehensive building survey on a three bedroom flat I was purchasing in a 1890's Georgian mansion. In my experience the building survey grossly underestimated the extent of dampness and mould in the flat and the remedial actions needed to fix the problem - as two of the three bedrooms are unliveable. It is costing around £10,000 to treat and extract the mould and make the flat habitable. In my personal opinion this constitutes professional negligence on the surveyor's part. I formally complained to Grays Building Consultants and Bruce Gray carried out a formal investigation and found no wrongdoing by himself/his company! I am now pursuing my complaint with RICS.

Very disappointing ! Searched for a specific survey and was given multiple companies to carry out the survey only to find nine of the companies provide the survey i requested, now i am inundated with text messages from random surveyors all over the u.k, none of them cover the area i work in

None of the local building surveyors identified by this portal proved to be of any use whatsoever. Furthermore, many customer user reviews gave negative and worrying feedback!

Useless. Didn’t even get a response!

I have been very disappointed with the responses from the listed surveyors shown. Few bothered to reply back and the prices they wanted seemed to be a lot higher than the original listing. Maybe this is something to do with the pressure of COVID, not sure.

Just as I expected, hassled by email and text message!

Really really poor. A quote was forwarded that was from a company located nowhere near my location and the quote did not take into account any of the details I provided. A mindless yes we will do the work but not taking things in the request into account is appalling. If I hadn't called to check, I would have not got the service I needed.

I am afraid I cannot write a review at this moment because the survey has not been done, or reported to me.

The search doesn't work it suggested companies that were not insured to survey the property price piont I had input. Total waste of time phoning them all only to be told that!

The surveyors just send basic quotes within seconds of submitting instead of actually reading what is required from the Notes section. Rubbish!

Think it was undervalued massively. Had 2 valuations on my property and one was £400k and £360k so way off in terms of pricing. House prices have gone up 20% and I paid £350k for my property so no way is it worth £360k
