The very imprortant advice you gave,which I add to my top list of priority are site fees // management fees for communal areas. I wont buy a new build on a developemnt that has these charges. Ontop of council tax. Your advice and knowledge on this was extremely helful to me. Esp having no choice in the matter and forced to pay fees.”

“No. I am concerned about the freeholder of a retirement home acting as the agent in a resale, insisting on exclusivity for their selling arm, and playing too big a role in setting the price. There is a conflict of interest here.”

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to reply. You make a good point, but the reality is this already happens on certain developments. We hear regularly of people having problems reselling their property and the freeholder has no vested interest. In fact, they will still be collecting the full service charge but do not have to provide the service. We would like to see more retirement home providers offer a buy back option. One of the reasons why selling can be difficult is the restriction on age (over 55) which limits the pool of buyers.
