Costs calculators are there to give you a ball-park figure of the costs but they can vary widely, depending on where you live in the country, how far you are moving, if you are buying or selling a leasehold property. Hi Graham, We just wanted to come back to you to let you know that the postcode issue on some of our website tools should now be resolved. The software company providing the postcode look-up suddenly ceased trading with no notice which affected our tools. We appreciated you getting in touch which alerted us to the situation and we fixed the problem as swiftly as possible last night. Our tests show everything is back up as normal. If you notice any further issues, do let us know.

That's why almost all of our articles and calculators - including moving costs, stamp duty and mortgage calculators - are free and can be used without providing any personal details at all. In your case, you were using our rent calculator, which is one of the few tools where we ask for an email address. When we do, we make it very clear upfront what will happen to your data. For this tool, the email address is used solely so we can send a one-off rental valuation only. We do not sign users up to ongoing marketing without consent. We take data protection seriously and aim to be transparent at every stage. We’re sorry if this wasn’t clear at the time and appreciate you raising the point.
