“widened my understanding BUT my problem is its our family home built by them and all use it year in year out for rememberence place of birth and need So technically is it a family home or a holiday home I'm confused and being the reistered owner aged 85 I'm struggling and confused Plus I have the responsibility of maintaining the property... hope this helps others shows how important being a good honest hard working british family counts for nothing for doing the right thing.... “I found the information extremely useful. I am now hopeful from your information about the Property Care Association that we can find an "independant, impartial surveyor who has no vested interest" to inspect the foam insulation in our loft. Since December 2025 when we had a phonecall saying that the foam insulation in our loft was now a problem, it has been a constant worry. We really didn't know who we could trust and as elderly pensioners we felt that we were being targeted and lied to. Originally, we did our research and chose open cell foam for our loft. Home Logic was recommended by Kevin McCloud, we had a 25 year warrantee and insurance should they stop trading. Now we fear that we will be unable to sell the house, leaving our daughters with the problem. We had fibreglass insulation in the roof but we wanted to improve our EPC so went for foam trying to do the "right thing." Firstly we had a phone call from someone telling us that they were a Government body offering to claim back the costs but as we didn't use a credit card they cannot help. We asked who they were and to send us details. Addlington-West Group sent us a letter. We then started having phone calls trying to make an appointment for a visit which we thought was for a surveyor to check on the loft and issue a certificate. He was from Smartgen Solutions but before he looked at our loft he was trying to sell the removal and installation of something else. When we asked who they were and how had they got our phone number we were told that there is a list and they hadn't bought it. We said that we would do our research. Last week we got another phone call from a call centre. (We checked the number.) She said that she was from the Building Regulations and they wanted to give us a certificate but after they had inspected our loft. How had she got our numbers? We are now victims of unscrupulous people who will tell us anything to get a sale.”
