Thank you for your review. As Matthew explained this morning, we received your order on Saturday 15th September at 20.18pm. Due to the volume of orders we receive over a weekend sometimes we are unfortunately unable to ship every order out on a Monday. Your order has been dispatched this morning for delivery tomorrow. We do include this information in our terms and conditions so customers are aware that there can sometimes be a day or two delay with receiving an order. We are sorry that your dowels won’t be delivered today to complete your project.

When my order when wrong due to a computer error, the staff could not be less interested in my needs or my point of view if they tried. Their own convenience was the only thing that counted. The dowels were fine, except that one has a deep dent. I have ended up paying for delivery twice on one order and for one dowel which I didn't want, but I just don't want any more dealings with this firm.

We are sorry you feel you have been treated unfairly. You did infact place 2 order 30minutes apart totalling 8 dowels. These were packaged up and sent to you for arrival the following day. They were bundled in a 5 (which they are made in) and a second parcel included the remaining 3 – therefore 8 dowels in total in which you ordered. After speaking to us it appears you made a duplicate order in error when you only required 4dowels. You were advised to return the remaining 4 and we would be happy to refund for these overordered items. We did infact only receive 3 returned dowels which we refunded. We have tried to help as much as we can in this matter.

Ordered a 3m widow board which arrived in 3 days, great. Unfortunately it was only wrapped along its length with corrugated card which was ripped and the best face damaged. Courier noted the damaged, I contacted the company immediately, sent pictures, promised a replacement which has not arrived after several phone chasers. Before u ask the other side has a dark patch and is not what I want to be seen. Poor packaging, broken promises, the choice to purchase is yours.

Do not use this company. I ordered some Oak dowel a few months ago and had problems with the delivery. and the company just blamed the courier! and did not help much. I gave them the benefit of doubt and placed another order. after a week and not received my order i called them, again they blamed the courier and were not sympathetic. i spoke to the courier myself and it turns out they were not passed on the full delivery address i had given. on calling G &S back they were rude and unhelpful with my problem which cost me a lot of money through lost productivity. terrible customer service.

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately your parcel was delivered by UPS and left at the incorrect address. We contacted UPS to locate your parcel for you via email and phone call follow ups. UPS confirmed that the parcel had been delivered to the incorrect address. The parcel would be collected and re-delivered to you today (Thursday). We were unable to resend further dowels to you as the couriers had already collected our parcels for the day (Wednesday) meaning you would receive your original parcel quicker than us resending a further parcel. UPS did confirm that the full delivery address had not been included and when looking into your order unfortunately the full address hadn’t been given to us when your order was placed online. As I’m sure you can understand it is vitally important we are given the full delivery address to ensure parcels are delivered on time. We are sorry that your delivery didn’t go as planned. Quoted 7-10 working days. Spoke to them to confirm time scale as 10 working days was my absolute limit. They confirmed that the time scale would be met. Took 13 working days to arrive.

Ordered 7off 44x44x2400 PAR Beech. Arrived pretty quick. Six lengths fine but the seventh was badly split at one end and in the middle so mostly unusable. This was not damage in shipping as packaging was good. Two emails with photos to G&S and got nothing back even after three weeks. Clearly quality and customer service mean nothing to them. Will not use G&S for future timber purchases.

Ordered some lime for a commission project for English Heritage, wood extremely poor quality, immature wood with open grain, definitely no good for carving! Company would only suggest buying future timber from their shop?????? Not very helpful, my advice find another supplier.

We were sorry to hear that the lime was unsuitable for your commission unfortunately we never received photos from yourself showing the immature open grain so couldn’t take it further at that point. I ordered 2 blocks of lime. One turned up correct size and flat. The other turned up a few mm under size but was bowed. I asked for this to be changed. They said no. I just will not do business with a company like this. A very big no dral

We're sorry you aren’t happy with the lime blanks you have received. The blanks you have purchased are rough sawn as described on our website and on such wide pieces some bow will be apparent in the piece. For customers who require a perfectly flat surface to work on we do sell planed carving blanks. You were offered a refund on the blank but you haven't chosen to take that option.

To clarify, during our recent 10% sale we removed our free timber offer and it clearly said in our promotional email that the discount was not running in conjunction with existing offers. 1)One Japanese Carvers Sharpening Stone, order 31st October. On 1st of Nov order replaced with Suehiro Stone as above order not available . 2)Turner's MeshAbrasive Roll 5 pack order on 1st Nov ,on the 7th Nov this order not available. On 15th Nov Carvers Sharpening Stone arrived. Would be good business to make sure you can provide an item before advertising.The large packaging had room for 50+ stones and loads of plastic wrapping!

If their website says an item is out of stock DO NOT PRE-ORDER IT. Mine was missing from my order and I assumed it would come when it was in stock. Nothing came and I realised retrospectively, nothing was done to remedy the situation when i enquired about it's whereabouts as their 'paperwork' said it was sent. I lost out - I'm fuming at how unhelpful their customer service was. Such a shame, as the items I did receive were well priced and delivered promptly. I wouldn't use these again as they clearly don't value keeping a loyal customer : (

Thank you for your review, unfortunately as we explained in our correspondence with you the tool was sent out with your order. If an item is placed on back order we would send an email to confirm this and hold the rest of the order until the back order item arrived with us. As you confirmed, there was no email sent to confirm this. We are getting regular Pfeil deliveries and it worked that we received a delivery the day you order was placed. I’m really sorry you think the customer service was unhelpful, but we have done all we can to assist in this matter.

Supplied lime blanks were badly prepared. The planer blade must have been very blunt. Also, two blanks had knots, which meant that a third of the usable area was wasted. If a customer had been able to select these blanks, they would not. One needs to trust the supplier to do so, when buying online.

Hello Peter, we're sorry you were unhappy with the quality of you lime blanks. Judging from the image you sent us we think you have been a bit harsh - the knots are very small and at the very edge of the blank and most carvers would have been happy to use that wood. However, we accept that it was not right for you and we did offer you a complete refund but are still waiting to hear back about how you want to proceed. Kind regards G&S

In reply to G and S, the email came in 30 minutes after the order but the order was processed 24 hours later (1st lie). The three option are true but were, pay £10 for shipping (should be free), wait for some future date or bugger of. Not great options!. No threats were made from my point (2nd lie), Shaun threaten to cancel my order but i don't consider this be a "threat" like the context of the reply. There were 2 phone calls and that was only because Shaun shouted at me and hung up. I then rang back which I consider to be 1 call (3rd lie). I have since received a letter from their lawyer which i guess is the reason why they have so few negative feedback. I don't scare easily.

Very poor service of telephone communication on trying to purchase product, Your website says next day delivery. The product was in stock but it took five working days to be delivered after order was placed.

Hello David, thank you for your review, We're sorry to hear that the delivery took so long to reach you. We have looked into this for you and the 'From the Anvil' products are ordered into us on a next day delivery. As your order was placed at 16.44 on the 1st of May these were ordered on the 2nd and dispatched on the 3rd to your address. On the tracking for your shipment delivery was attempted on the 4th but no one was at the property, delivery was then made the next working day. I've enjoyed a good service from this company until I had to speak to someone and it quickly became the worst service I've ever experienced. I emailed 30 minutes after my order asking to add an extra Dowel. This was missed by the team but rather than taking reasonability I was told I need to either wait until my next order, pay a large delivery charge (delivery would have been free if added to the order) or cancel the order. Obviously none of these are suitable as they all push the reasonability for their mistake onto me. I asked for the Dowel to be sent with free shipping but Shaun (owner) kept sending the same 3 choices. I began to wonder whether I was actually communicating with a computer program. When I decline these he cancelled the order and told me to shop elsewhere. I then rang Shaun who was extremely rude because I wouldn't accept any of these unaccepted options and actually hung up. Hopefully you don't need to contact them but if you do, good luck!

Hello James, Thank you for your review. We are very disappointed to hear you feel you received bad service from us. We are a family business who prides itself on our customer service and we think other reviews reflect the level of service we provide much more accurately. Regarding your order – you wished to add to your existing order after it had been placed and processed. Unfortunately, once orders are placed and packaged we cannot add to them and this was explained to you clearly on several occasions. We gave you three options to help you to receive the extra item you wished to add to your order and feel we tried to help with every aspect of your order in a professional manner. Unfortunately, after multiple phone calls and emails containing threatening comments from yourself, we felt you gave us no choice but to cancel and refund your order. This course of action is something that we do not take lightly but on this occasion we felt it was the best way forward for all concerned. We wish you well in the future. G&S

The dowels where quite oval shaped when they arrived, as a furniture makers I appreciate wood moves, but this looks more like a machining hikcup than movemt. Probably would buy again

I've ordered from you a few times before, the first couple of batches were great but the last two seemed to differ I. Tolerances considerably which has caused difficulty for my work. Equally in ordering 10-12 oak dowels each time I seem to receive 1 or 2 that either contain too much sapwood to use for furniture with poor colouring or worse large splits in the timber. Appears to lack consistency in the orders that I place. Speed of delivery great! Just wish that all the dowel was within a better tolerance, I've had them vary on ordering 38.1mm oak dowel in turning out to be 37mm or 39mm which is too much difference for me
