“GoSkippy are the worst insurance company I've ever dealt with.
A system error lead to both my partner's and my driver's license issue dates to be the date that the policy was purchased (with the exception of the year). An automatic administration fee of £50 was charged by GoSkippy to correct this.
Despite this being clearly an error with GoSkippy's system, it took well over an hour of my time to correct this with customer services and argue the fact that it would have been extremely unlikely that I would have supplied the date wrong on two licenses and even more so, the same date as the start date of the policy!
Following this correction, GoSkippy also took the opportunity to increase the insurance premium. This would be understandable if the license dates were very wrong (i.e. by years or months) but the increase in premium was not proportionate and it's quite clear GoSkippy took advantage of this.
The fact the information was not correctly processed by GoSkippy's system is unacceptable for an insurance company. To be insured, the information must be accurate else the insurance is void and should you ever need to use your insurance, they will use any discrepancy to avoid fulfilling a claim. With this in mind, I was no longer confident in GoSkippy's capability to reliably provide insurance.
As part of GoSkippy's onboarding process, you are required to supply proof of ID, no claims and also a check code from the DVLA - all understandable. However, actually supplying this information to GoSkippy is incredibly painful and potentially insecure. Supplying check codes to GoSkippy resulted in the same canned responses from customer services thanking me for my ID and requesting my check code.. an endless loop.
GoSkippy also encourage you to send your personal documents via email which is simply not secure and not something I would recommend to anyone who values their online security. An online portal / customer area should be used for this purpose, email is a cheap but insecure workaround.
Due to this experience, I requested to cancel the policy with GoSkippy, willing to accept the stated £75 cancellation fee. However, out of a £400 premium, only £170 was refunded due to brokerage fees (£85) and the *removal* of any discounts.
Even if this is a legal business practice, it is not an ethical business practice and I encourage you to opt for a slightly more expensive but established insurance company that is actually capable of being an insurer.”

Compare the market does not ask what date you obtained you licence just how many years which has always been fine with all insurance policies I have had through them.
Went with Go Skippy this year as they provided a good price to be hit with this:
We have amended the date you have obtained your licence from 27/07/2005 to 12/05/2005 and the additional drivers licence length from 27/07/2012 to 25/06/2013 as it appears on the Driving Licence Summary. This has generated an additional premium of £163.12 including our administration fee of £50.00 and Insurance Premium Tax.
So because Go Skippy took my policy start date minus the amount of years that Compare the market supplied them with I have to pay more just because me & my Mrs has had our licence for longer than the computer told them!
Then when you ask them to just cancel it a couple of hours later and even before the policy starts they hit you with a £25 cancellation charge.”
“Absolutely diabolical!!!! Call centres are a joke!!! The line is awfully static. And the people in there dont have a brain cell between them. Very rude and obnoxious. But dont take my word for it get insurance through them and see for yourself!! Cheap quotes. but then change something as easy as a date and they will charge you over 400 for it!! Their excuse was its computer generated!! Also tried to charge admin fee for info they requested from me! What's that about?. And when I tried to cancel they told me I owed them money which was a load of lies. They owed me!! Also miraculously started to say well we can get rid of this and this so it's cheaper. “I have had my claim renewed without my permission. Money was withdrawn from my account on 16/07/19. I rang Go Skippy and was told it would be cancelled and my money refunded. I then received a text that day to say it was cancelled but have not received a refund or an apology. Today I rang to complain about this and did at least get an apology but the employee was unable to tell me when I would get a refund. He told me that a note about a refund had been made on 19/07/19 but could not tell me if the transfer had been done. I then asked to speak to a manager as this was unacceptable and grossly unprofessional to not only remove the funds without my permission but to then leave a three day gap before even noting that I need a refund. The manager was apparently on another call. I got her name and gave my number. That was almost an hour ago and I have not had a return call.
This is not how to run a business and I shall be contacting my bank. I would never use Go Skippy again. So beware anybody else who does.”
“Great prices until you need to claim then you find out why. Stick with the big names by shopping around. You may pay slightly more but backup and customer services is so much better. This company is the pits they seem very adept at being disingenuous.”
“Very bad experience, GoSkippy almost cost me 1600£ for a year, and in the end of my policy I did call the customer service to send me my no claims letter to my email the senior advisor and her name is Yolanda Williams told me i have to wait for the queue and she has no idea how long the queue, whatever the problem is when i asked her to transfer my call to her manager she end my call and she make feel like stupid saying hey hello, i did call again and i was speaking to Matilda and she was not bad and she told me the problem is with IT so they can not process my No claims letter at the moment, so first from the senior was the queue and the second was IT problem, please you are dealing with a customers not a stupid people, you have to be honest and kind, we work hard to pay the Insurance so please treat us nicely......”
“Like many customers Goskippy email system let me down. When my policy was do for renewal I’d heard nothing from them and it ran out at midnight later same day I got a IN 10 conviction. Then they auto renewed policy took full amount and issued a policy without the conviction that they knew was invalid. Still waiting refund promised but not arrived.”
