Crunch has the WORST service I have ever experienced. As a freelancer setting up a limited company for the first time, I needed some support about how best to optimise my personal and company tax affairs. Crunch were unable to provide this service, instead taking a 'one size fits all approach.' My account manager knew absolutely nothing about accounting and when I had a question about the specifics of taxation would simply link me to pages on HRMC's website which I had already read without offering any further advice on the issue or bothering to ask one of the professional accountants who work there (who I assume are too snowed under to actually do anything useful). At one stage my account advisor even gave incorrect tax advice which could have cost me the best part of £10,000. When I left Crunch there was no formal hand over process. I have had to regularly call Crunch to find out basic details like my login number for Companies House and to receive post that was erroneously sent there in error. I strongly advise you to look elsewhere if you are looking for genuine accounting advice. Crunch is little more than software with tech support. I would like at other options such as Xero.

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear you're unhappy with our service. My name's Andy and I’m the Client Experience Manager here at Crunch and I want to see if I can help. I’ve launched an immediate investigation into your concerns over some of the advice given and I will review our leaving process in full. As soon as I’ve been able to review in full, I’ll be in touch as quickly as I can. Please leave it with me and I’ll see what I can do. Many thanks

I've been with these guys since the beginning. The concept they had in the 'early days' was a good one, and the service received was tolerable (albeit wrong advice sometimes). Now they are more money orientated, and actually getting any resolution to any problem (usually caused by them or their software) is a major headache. There are additional charges for everything. Their 'system' seems to have zero intelligence, and you are regularly bombarded by what only can be considered as spam. Apart from the regular email warnings you get ie "you will be fined if you don't do this" despite the fact you have done what you are being warned about. And their 'home' screen does the same. When you have done something, you should not keep receiving warning messages that give you cause for concern. Often with 3/4/5 days notice. Not good guys... Its a shame that this has gone this way, as after all, the initial concept was a very good idea.

Hi Winston, I'm extremely sorry to hear you have concerns that our service has declined. I want to thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback and give you my personal assurances that I will be investigating in full. I will be in touch personally to see if I can offer some reassurance and hopefully firm resolution. Warm regards Andy Tyrrell Client Experience Manager

Don't use Crunch. They bring so little to the table. Get a professional accountant for a much more reasonable price. Speak to other small businesses and start ups online about their accountants. The additional charges are a joke, they actually charge for an accounting review! shocking. The advice they do offer is poor and usually quite slow. Don't bother with crunch. They are expensive, slow & spammy - you can even see with the reviews on here how much they push a 'free month with every referral' - I have better things to be doing than their marketing (also, I value my reputation too much to recommend this nightmare to anyone). Of all the ball-aches I've had in the first year of starting my own business, Crunch has been a consistent top 3. Find a professional accountant and use them. Avoid Crunch at all costs.

Wrongly advised by Crunch to pay out a large sum of money and it's now been over a year that i have been trying to get it back. Crunch continue to lie about deadlines and want nothing to do with giving my money back - horrible company.

Hi there, Thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry that you feel we've caused significant loss. I'd like to comment and say that we've been liaising directly with HMRC to retrieve the penalty notice issued in. We have also provided clear instructions and next steps on how to resolve this. As we're no longer your agent, your direct involvement is needed and have sent letters to you to then sign and forward on to HMRC in order to retrieve the funds. We have consistently said that we would cover any costs should HMRC not rescind the penalty - HMRC confirmed that they are happy to refund the payment and they are waiting on your response. I understand the process has been lengthy and we appreciate that the situation has been far from ideal. We look forward to having this resolved as quickly as possible, Kind regards

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid! Used crunch and paid extra for the premium service. The account was never reconciled. It took two months for my Self Assessment to be calculated and only after raising a formal complaint. They sent me the accounts for approval about 1 hour before the deadline and whilst I was on leave, no time to review. Turns out there were fundamnenal errors and the accounts must now be reworked (currently at my expense - they haven't yet agreed to refund the fees). One of the errors was that a salary payment was changed to a dividend and new dividends created for the other share holders. No dividend payment was made and yet they still claimed to have reconciled the account. I was never informed that any of this had taken place. I now have to rework the accounts, do battle with a recalcitrant crunch and migrate to another platform and accountant. All very time consuming and time that could have been better spent on my business. Advice: Source the cloud platform and the accountant service seperately. That way if there is a problem you only need to change one or the other.

Thank you for your review and I’m sincerely sorry that you’ve experienced problems with the service. This sounds like an extreme situation which is unusual and so we’ll need to devote all resources in reviewing what has happened on your account. I understand that a complaint has already been logged and that it is in the hands of our most senior members of staff. With reference to there being fundamental errors, our Senior Technical Accountant has reviewed your accounts and is confident that they are correct based on the information in the account and our knowledge of your situation. We will review your concerns around salary and dividends as we understand that this can be confusing if not given appropriate advice with how to record these transactions. We will be in touch with positive solutions as quickly as we possibly can. Warm regards

Very unhappy with the level of service and online app. Having trainee staff enter into my account and make changes to my accounts without my permission is completely unacceptable. I have paid for a review and had no action from this as I was promised. I was incorrectly filed in the wrong VAT scheme under a business sector that I am not in. Yes, the responses are swift but often completely unhelpful. I pay for an accounting company because I do not understand a lot of the processes as that is not my expertise, I don't feel that I've had any benefit from paying Crunch each month. There are free accountancy online apps out there that would have been just as much use and reading the HMRC guides as I am simply given a link to the same text anyway if I have a challenging issue. If I could get my money back I would. I recommended Crunch in my first few weeks and unfortunately my colleague has had an equally awful experience. If you have simple accounts and do not find taxes and accounting daunting then they may well be a fine company for you, but if you need help to understand and have a complex company or service that needs attention then I would steer clear and get professional advice.

Hi Sam, I'm very sorry to hear that you have been experiencing issues with your Crunch Account and I've emailed you directly to see whether I can assist and offer an explanation. I am sorry that we did not follow up on the Accountancy Review with the required questions. I understand that the Review took place in June but no follow up has occurred - I've reported this as a training need. Unfortunately it is ultimately HMRC's decision as to which Flat Rate Scheme they assign to your company, based on your company trading activity. I've tried to expand on this in my email. Please let me know if you would like a call and I'll happily address your concerns in full. Warm regards

They didn't know there were system faults in system until I informed them. And charged fee what didn't happen for several months. Even they input that refund without my agreement as a asset. You are going to be talking with account manager not accountant. Terrible company

Hi Domingo, I'm very sorry to hear that there has been an issue on the account. I can see that this was resolved very quickly once we became aware of the problem and that there was no lasting, negative effect. Our service offers Account Managers as our first point of contact but you're able to speak to an Accountant whenever you need. I understand that we've been in touch about cancelling our service and I'm happy to offer you my assistance with anything you need in the meantime, Happy to speak more about your concerns, Kind regards

Unfortunately this particular review came from us (Crunch) asking the client to leave our services. We are confident that this is not an accurate overview of the service provided and is more of a reaction.

These guys are constantly searching for ways to increase your liability and their VAT returns include a little extra than the statutory requirement. They are rude and condescending. Won't recommend to anyone.
