Confused, confused me my policy was not due until next year

I updated the insurance details and submitted to Confused.com Three quotes came back but when I checked the cheapest and found a couple of discrepencies. When I corrected them the price went up. My policy with Aviva only shows 5 years NCB for both. They should be 8. I still need to get it sorted with Aviva. Lots of messing about.

Found what I wanted at cheapest price. However, when I went to confirm the insurance, I wasn’t able to complete online and had to call the insurers directly. I’m now trying other comparison sites.

Confused.com has a great search engine for finding cheaper insurance policies; however the would-be customer should not take any pre-loaded on-screen data from a previous insurance search as being correct, or as being what you really require. First, it may take your pre-inserted data from a recent search, which may be totally inaccurate (and easy to overlook). Second, it may get the start date for any new policy wrong or not what you require, and I discovered that it is not possible to push back a policy 'start date' by more than 30 days (if you inadvertently inserted an incorrect date, for example), and that you can't have two insurance policies running concurrently for the same property. Important terms & conditions regarding a purchase are hidden in pages of relevant but obscure wording, it is very easy to accept an offer and thereby 'commit to buy', any subsequent changes may be difficult or impossible, and the cancellation fee is often higher than the policy requested. So my message is: read all the policy wording and small print (very time consuming), check and double check all your data and start/end dates for any policy, and be prepared to pay a hefty administration fee if things go wrong. My complaint was eventually resolved satisfactorily but not without being very insistent.

It saves time only inputting one set of details but why when quotes are obtained, checked and agreed to buy decided, do you have a different quoted figure from that previously advised? Needless to say this is a higher figure... It would also be a great help and would save considerable time if there was a comparison table available for the quotes so that you can see what the different quotes are actually covering. You would be allowed to say choose up to 5 quotes and see in one table how they compared for all the relevant areas. This could be an additional service for which you maybe charge a fee but if accurate would save so much time that it would be worthwhile.

I asked why no policies showed flooding as being covered as a risk, got back standard reply about Flood RE scheme which I know about and to contact sellers direct, try waiting 10/15 mins just to ask question then repeat several times till you find one. If asConfused ad says , flooding covered surely it should be shown....

Obtaining a quote was fine but the links to the company sites and issues with setting up the cover were not good with Sky Protect who took the money from my creditcard but didn’t set a policy up. Now waiting 4 days for a refund.
