The silver/gold highlighting was poorly executed on the back cover. I will avoid this option in future. Otherwise the books are of good quality and I've made over 30 of them.

The quality of the books we buy are superb and would score 5* on their own. The price is horrendous (over £200 for the last book) and would score 1* as a category on its own. We’ve always bought the top of the range, lay flat books and you expect them to cost more, but they’ve almost doubled in price over the last 4 years. Photo albums have always been important to us so we pay the money, but I doubt many of my friends would be willing to spend as much. Obviously, this is a review of the product we purchase, other more cost effective products are available but I can’t provide a review of them.

Dear George, I’m very sorry that you find our products expensive. Unlike our competitors, we have not increased our product’s prices in six years, although yes, our products are quite pricey. We did look at our records and the latest book that you ordered had about 3x the amount of pages than your previous order and our extra pages are an additional cost to your book. In addition, you book was ordered with our gloss photographic paper, which is our priciest premium paper. I am really sorry that you find our products expensive but please do sign up to our newsletter for occasional offers that be used on future orders. Good product. Quality binding. Fast delivery. But I am a bit disappointed with the picture rendering, which I feel not sufficiently true to the original.

Dear Arnaud, I’m sorry that you were disappointed with the rendering of the picture. We have checked the records and it seems like the Automatic Image Correction was turned on while you were making your book. This could mean that some of the colour in your images were altered and this could perhaps have caused the rendering to change. Ordered a medium sized landscape, lustre photographic hardback photo book. Used extremely high def photos that took hours to get uploaded to the website. These photos were taken by a professional photographer on our wedding day. Found the software to create the book good and delivery/packaging was fine. The book isn't as good quality as I had hoped which is a shame, definitely not super crisp, high-def photos. Probably wouldn't use Bob Books again.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I have checked with our customer care team and after looking at the data they received have confirmed that unfortunately some on the images were received quite grainy and appeared as lower resolutions files. It may also be that while your images were of print quality, the filter that you applied on your original image is what caused the grainy look. A photo will always look different when viewed on screen than in print for a variety of reasons including the fact that less pixels are needed to show a clear image on screen than in print and your screen is backlit. I have previously used apple books but these are no longer available and switched to BOB books but the quality is nowhere near as good. App was easy to use. Disappointed with quality will not use again.

I have noticed that the quality of the printing and the paper has been reduced slightly. That is a shame as the prices are not cheap compared to other competitors. I have been using BobBooks for a number of years, but this has made me wonder if there are other options out there better in terms of price/quality

It took me a long time to get the hang of this, and it wasn’t without its problems. For example, two images kept disappearing even though I had saved them. However, the help I received was good and in the end I was pleased with the finished product. I will use BobBooks again and I feel confident that I will have learned from the initial experience. I hope this time it won’t take quite so long!

I have checked with our customer care team and they believe that the two images that you were looking to place were corrupt files, which is why they continued to disappear even after they had been saved. I believe they gave you an option to fix these, which hopefully worked for you. As a suggestion, you may want to try our desktop software for your next book as it will give you more flexibility with the design and you should not have any network issues. Kind Regards, Bob Books

My only concern is that the printing is generally very heavy. In one instance, I did complain and it was reprinted, but I do not like to complain every time. Blacks are very heavy and solid, and images tend to be printed darker. I now lighten images specially for the books, but it doesn't totally resolve it

I have checked with our customer care team and unfortunately we were unable to check whether the Automated Image Correction was turned on or off during the creation of your book, which may have caused your images to come out darker than anticipated. We can offer you recommendations on calibrating your monitor, if you would like to do this before your next book. This should give you a more realistic preview of how the images will appear in print. The book would have been fantastic if it hadn't been for a error, in presumably the software, whilst composing the book. One of the photos was missing from the preview but it was in All Pages ( the bit before preview). I asked about this and it didn't seem to be a problem. So I went ahead and ordered the book. After the person received the book, I went back to the site to publish it so other family members could view it and discovered that there was a blank page where a photo should have been. I contacted Bob Books but they didn't seem particularly helpful and told me to return the book and order again. I don't know why they couldn't just fix the problem and send another correct one. Very disappointed.

Dear Caryn, Thank you for taking the time to write a review, I’m sorry that you were disappointed with your book. I’ve checked with head of customer care regarding your live chat query. Unfortunately, our agent misunderstood your final comment and thought you were referring to an empty image placeholder on the page. She did say if there was any issues, you’d be welcome to post the book back and have a free reprint. With regards to the missing image, it most likely occurred because your scanned image has become corrupt at some point. Therefore, you would need to fix your image, and re-upload it in your book before ordering it as unfortunately, simply printing another copy of your book from the original file will result in the same problem.

I cannot give a better rating as the book I received looked as if the automatic colour boost has been applied even though I had made sure to turn it off. As a result the subtlety of the colours has been missed. As I result o would hesitate to use Bobs Books again.

I am still awaiting feedback from my client as to the printing quality. The actual software and design process was fine. There were two major hiccups however - Only when I submitted the book, did I see as the high res images were loading that for some reason a handful had come out very grainy. In the software, they had looked fine. I called the office as soon as they were open the following morning only to be told that it was impossible for them to halt the order (even though I had only ordered close to midnight the previous day). Two separate people then gave me different accounts of whether the images looked grainy or not (I am a professional photographer and there is no problem with the quality of the images when viewed on my Mac) This lack of consistency and lack of flexibility was rather surprising given my order was for several hundred pounds worth of books. I also subsequently learnt that due to a bug in the system the font which I had selected for the cover had been reset to a completely different font. There was also no acknowledgement of this bug even though I explained the situation and it was clear that my font had suddenly become unselectable and could only be refound by removing the title block and starting again.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent Bob Books experience. As you placed your order in the run up to Christmas we were printing 24hours a day, and also offering 24 hour phone support. Unfortunately your books were already printed by time you called the following morning, and therefore could not be cancelled. This is why we offered you the goodwill discount. In regards to your mention of grainy images, while your images were of print quality, the filter that you applied on your original image is what caused the grainy look. A photo will always look different when viewed on screen than in print for a variety of reasons including the fact that less pixels are needed to show a clear image on screen than in print and your screen is backlit. Additionally, the printing method and paper will also affect the final look in the book. Any editing you choose to do on images will affect how your photos are printed. Unfortunately, If you are using a new treatment on an image which you haven’t already testing in print, you might occasionally find less than desirable results. I have asked requested more information from our customer care team about the font issue you mentioned, however, we haven’t been able to find any record of it, or a similar issue reported by any other customers. The quality of the book is very good. But the overall final price (based on what was delivered) was excessive.

I repeatedly asked for an ICC profile to which I could soft proof my images before sending them. I got nothing. The resultant book was mostly excellent and accurate but, as expected, one or two images with strong reds/oranges - out of gamut colours obviously - came out pretty wrong. They should definitely provide an ICC profile for those who ask for one at least.

I have checked this with my colleague and they have confirm that they had sent you the standard colour profiles. We tried to get more information but our colleague who would have been able to help was on long term sick leave and unfortunately the specific printer calibrations settings are something that we cannot disclose. The app used to create a book is very intuitive with numerous design features. I have used Bob Books several times before but on this occasion confess to being disappointed. I ordered 2 separate books in December. The first featuring people over a period of time was fine. The second which featured landscapes was poor. The contrast was low and the photographs lacked colour vibrancy.

I designed and ordered a photobook with text which stretched across two pages. I assumed that the design tool would accommodate for this. Unfortunately when the book arrived part of the text and pictures were swallowed up by the central binding. This had not been highlighted as a potential issue when using the preview tool. As I was pleased with the overall quality of the book, I re-ordered, making an allowance for the central binding on this occasion. It has been a costly experience, but I am happy with my final purchase.

I was disappointed that for whatever reason, I could not choose standard paper with a hardcover A4 landscape book. Instead I chose the glossy photo version which I felt was much too heavy. Also the fact that this leaves a very thick, unusable page at the back makes the book look as though I had forgotten to add a photograph. Quality of printing was fine and speed of delivery excellent but I was not all that happy with the results

It looks like you ordered through the desktop software, so there is no reason, that I can think of, that you wouldn't have been able to change the paper type to classic before ordering, if this was your preference. Unfortunately, photos taken in low light can sometimes be a bit out of focus or blurry, which may be more obvious when viewed larger in print, rather than on a screen. The overall product was acceptable but I have noticed that some of the photos, the black and white ones, in one of the books lacked depth in the blacks. This made the photos appear more exposed and took depth away from them giving them a more mid-tone grey feel.

It was very easy to make a photo book using the desktop software, and the result has been much admired. But I'm sorry to say that was inordinately expensive, hence my rating. Even with the 20% discount offerred on my next order, that book will be published elsewhere.
