About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 22 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

I attend the gym on a very regular basis. The centre is lively and the staff are fab. However the showers are very poor and dirty as are the toilets. The gym could also benefit from WiFi.

The swimming pool changing rooms aren't very clean, and the layout isn't ideal; the toilets aren't near the entrance and are far away from the showers. Staff are friendly enough although sometimes not at the service desk, which is not a big deal. Sometimes activities get cancelled for lack of bookings, and thus the booking slot is taken offline. It would be much appreciated if the booking slots concerned could be kept online until the time the booking slot starts. If there are no attendees at that time, it would be appropriate to cancel the slot in my opinion.

Having been a member for almost 2 years i found my use of facilities sporadic due to work location commitments UK wide. Although lots of facilities on offer, it was often difficult to utilise. I was a disappointed with the gym equipment. Machines often out of use, old or limited function. The last few times I attended the gym was not very clean and I mentioned to staff. Changing rooms although a good size often finding a locker was problematic and coins often got stuck. One toilet was permanently out of use the whole time I was a member. I feel the membership cost was expensive for my main use of the gym. While I understand having the swimming pool facility is a bonus to members and carries a cost, gym membership with other companies is substantially less with many more up to date machines available. I will continue to use the pool but will pay as and when I use it. It is a great facility for the area and most of the time it's is clean, welcoming and friendly staff.

Hi Alison, thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback At Halo, our top priority is to ensure customer satisfaction, we are currently in the process of refurbishing our gym and aim to have this completed before the summer. New lockers are also slowly being phased in It's good to hear that you are continuing to use our wet-side facilities and are happy with the standard of cleanliness and support given by the staff team We look forward to seeing you soon Best regards, Charlie

I would like to see a door put back on that shower that's been out of action for weeks. Not enough shower capacity at the moment. Keep having to wait around at the end of my swim. Also find there is no policing of who swims in the slow lane so you get really fast swimmers sometimes who keep overtaking and cutting you up at the end of the length. They are more than quick enough for the middle lane. Apart from those gripes things are OK at the moment

Centre is ok. Staff are nice but the gym is too small for the amount of users and there should be more swimming sessions to choose from.

I use the Halo swimming pool in Maesteg. The staff are fantastic and make you feel welcome on every visit. The building however is another matter. The building is an old building that is in a residential area with restricted parking for non-residents. Because it is old it needs a lot of funds to keep it at an acceptable standard and I don't think the responsibility is down to Halo but the council. The trouble is I think attendance is down and because of this. Measteg people are afraid we will lose this facility but will not travel to Brigend so it will affect the school children and older generation in this area. Halo should be negotiating with the council about this matter.

Hi Derek, Thanks for the feedback Thanks Halo

New investment of the gym doesn't include any resistance training equipment? There is still only two weight benches, there was three and the damaged one has never been replaced. Nowhere near sufficient in busy times!

Good parking. Good facilities but could do with a renovation. Recently upgraded gym, however, poor selection of machines and plates for the barbells. Poor selection of fitness classes, seems to be getting less and less to attend. I’ve had to stop attending the spin bike classes due to the dreadful state of the bikes, they are an accident waiting to happen, despite being promised new ones during the renovation. Overall it’s an okay centre, but could have been made a lot better with the money which has been sent on it very recently. The staff there are great though, very friendly and helpful!

Thank you for your comments and your lovely comments regarding the staff. We have recently had a refurbishment of our gym equipment. The spinning bikes for classes were not replaced but we do have new bikes for in the fitness suite. Our number of fitness classes has not decreased but if instructors are away we do our best to cover with alternate classes. We do appreciate your comments which will help us to improve . Many thanks Maesteg Staffing Team

Anti-splash lane dividers could be used in the pool. Also, parking should be free.

Not as clean has it was people walking round changing room in dirty shoes. I’ve visited this pool for 35 years and I find the changing rooms terrible at times, shortage of staff I presume. The other week they called off a Monday session which I couldn’t believe again shortage of staff, it’s a shame because over the years you’ve had some great friendly staff and some of them are still there and speak but the newer people don’t communicate the same. Nick the manager that was I spoke with him about all these things but nothing happened

Halo at Brockworth recently closed for 5 days over Christmas and new year just when members have time to go to the gym & pool! Most gyms closed for one day, Christmas Day. The staff are very friendly but you can tell they don’t spend much on cleaning the floor in the changing room and the corner areas of the poolside and the pool tiled floor, however the water is always clean & safe.

Monthly cost is too expensive and range of classes not the greatest. Also to get to the gym at after work times is impossible.

I only go swimming which is ok,however I find the water a little too cold, and there’s too much of the pool sectioned off for lessons or for the people who want to swim for fitness,I was going in the sauna too but stopped as I always felt I had a cold after each time..

Currently a bit dated and the building can be seen to be falling into disrepair in the toilets and changing rooms. Equipment in the gym is ok however i think the introduction of new equipment soon will make the experience better. Reception staff need to communicate better when it is ok to enter the changing room area before swimming as sometimes a school session is before it.

The centre offers many opportunities for wellbeing. But often technical issues can be a problem . At the desk support resources are limited, often a long queue.

Equipment out of order for too long - e.g. poolside showers, steam room, cross trainers etc Also instructors holidays need better planning with deputy arranged before leave is booked? This is not rocket science!

Parking was difficult especially after work hours when dark in the evening. Class availability was very limited and often people cancelled last minute- Hard to plan in advance with other commitments. Staff were very helpful and understanding.
