About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Plus points. Helpful and friendly staff. Opening hours to accommodate most people. Reasonable membership fees. Needs Work. Building and especially mens changing area in very poor state. Taking too long to see any changes for better”

“Exercise machines are looking tired. Only 1 stairmaster works smoothly the right hand one judders. Three tresadmills facing the road slope to the left. Only 1 assualt bike which is located in a side room which i cant enter when there is a class on and the class leader shouts at to you to leave! which is frustrating when they are not even using the 1 only assault bike. The wifi never works. The new entry red and green boxes are too slow. In general the main room layout is a mess with no feng shui about it. They increase the subscribton every year.”

“Staff always friendly and helpful, venue clean and well- maintained. I enjoy Aquafit, lane swimming and gym. Only negative for me is not enough Aquafit/pilates/stretch and tone classes. Always difficult to get on to Aquafit Tues & Thurs am.”

“The cycle track and biuke hire is fantastic, including the helpful people who manage the bike hire. Just one thing that could be improved: if you drive to the leisure centre with bikes on the roof of the car, it's not possible to get into the car park, which is a shame.”

“Been attending this gym for a few years now and I still love coming here. Great equipment and clean. Staff are friendly and very helpful. One downside, no fault of the gym but wattbikes have peddles missing often and it’s difficult to put them on. Also wattbikes break often. Again no fault of the gym.”

“Staff in general seem to be helpful and supportive, I have to single out a young lady called Meg though, she has been just lovely. Chatty and always pleasant to talk too. I like to have a coffee after using the health suit, the cafe isn’t cheap but they serve nice coffee Only downside, the water fountain in the health suite needs to be thoroughly cleaned.”

“Every week I take my son to swimming lessons at Fairwater leisure centre and every week is so frustrating. Users of the pool are leaving their belongings in the changing rooms whilst they are swimming and there is never any free rooms to use. There is 1 bench in the women’s changing rooms that also gets hogged so therefore isn’t any space for changing. I am looking to go to another provider as it is shocking!”

“Maesteg swimming pools strengths are all in their employees. They are always polite and willing to help. Always on hand to keep the running of the pool , gym and health suite best as possible. They always do their best with poor facilities available. The big negative of the pool is the facilities. There are very few lockers in which to store your valuables whilst swimming. The gym needs a little up dating especially because the sports centre gym has many extra up to date machines to use. The pool as so much more to offer the community if the facilities were upgraded a touch It would attract a lot more people.”
