About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 22 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“All staff are amazing. The classes here are very limited and there isn’t much notice paid to classes with consistant low numbers needing to be changed. There are no classes on a Friday or a weekend which is disappointing. Personally, I dont like the new gym equipment and find it difficult to use to the point I feel the treadmills are faulty so have stopped going in there. My husband stopped his membership because of this. Value for money is poor, I go here for local convenience. It is expensive for what you get.”

“Poor changing rooms and showers and equipment always cast offs. Getting better but needs improving. peple are ok but sometimes sell involved and Down. One particular person is exeptional and understands your needs.”

“Facilities are good, although there has been some recent issues with the pool and steam room. Changing rooms are clean and tidy, showers are nice and hot. Majority of staff are lovely, friendly and helpful, although there are a few younger staff members who can barely smile or look up at you to welcome you. Sometimes the immaturity of these young staff members can be seen with them giggling and joking amongst themselves and making inappropriate comments towards people’s appearance/attire. It can sometimes make you feel uncomfortable depending on what staff are working.”

“Inclusive, friendly atmosphere, good variety of activities. Since the refurbishment there are now only four treadmills for running, which can mean not being able to get on one if the gym is busy. It would be good if there were one more treadmill for running. Facilities are okay but can take a long time to be fixed if broken, e.g. at present only one of the two general use toilets in the women's changing room is operational (the other has been out of use for weeks/months). Also, at present the only disbaled toilet in the women's changing room is out of use.”

“I enjoy immensely many of the classes for pilates, yoga, body pump, circuits for over 55 and think the teachers are amazing. However the rooms are extremely cold as the AC is on whatever the weather and no one seems to know or care how to set it up properly. The place and the equipment is dirty and not well cared for.”

“The swimming pool and sauna room are adequate, but gym is now unusable for someone who lifts weights as it only caters for two individuals doing that kind of training at the most. This is a great pity as I now have to travel into Bridgend or to Ynysawdre to train. Ynysawdre has no sauna and Bridgend is usually excessively busy ☹️”

Dear Gavin, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your experience at Halo. We appreciate customers like you who provide valuable insights that help us to improve our facilities. We understand how frustrating it can be when the gym doesn't cater to your specific weightlifting needs. There is a plan in place to get more equipment back in that area, eg. the smith machine that we used to have in there. Due to the size of the gym, we have a smaller limit on the amount of people that are allowed in there during a session at a given time. This is to try help mitigate overcrowding in certain areas but we understand that's not always possible. Thank you once again for your sharing your concerns with us.
