About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“The centre as a whole is a very high standard. There are some issues to the gym flooring and also the main pool needs cleaning more often but apart from that I am very happy with my visits there.”

“I would rate the pool a 2 or 3 as it's so cold well under temperature as I have fibromyalgia and been using a pool in Worcester and it's so much warmer and cleaner. I'd rate the staff a 4 or 5 star as they are brilliant nothing is too much trouble for them they are brilliant. I'm not exaggerating in any way but the pool when you get in you have goose bumps and even after 20 lengths you have goose bumps. I'm not the only one saying about the pool. I go on a Monday or Thursday and the older women and gentlemen are saying how cold it is. In fact I'm thinking of cancelling my subscription and travelling to Worcester although it's 24 miles away and petrol but I can't swim in a cold pool. It's ridiculous”

“Halo pontycymer is very important to the community. The staff are fantastic and always helpful and polite. Some equipment does need upgrading but that's the only complaint.”

“Unfortunately this centre is run down and lots of classes cancelled. Very poor variety of classes which are not advertised or, promoted. Centre is not used to its full potential and used to be at the heart of the valley. Lovely staff but It’s says something when even the manager is using another local gym,training centre. Such a shame when surrounding centres are thriving.”

“Excellent staff, well maintained pool. Sometimes the loos get a little 'used' and, like today, a shower out of action causing a wait. However, as you can tell from my rating these are minor things in comparison with the overall picture.”

“I love cwmbran stadium but the pool showers and changing facilities are awful the smell is awful there the gym was refurbished just after covid but the pool and facilities haven't been touched for yrs there's some much needed money to be spent there it's sad as the staff are amazing .”

“Cleaning leaves a lot to be desired. Maintenance not very good Most staff friendly and helpful but a couple of exceptions where staff appear to be over zealous with their importance on reception. Trainers excellent.”

“All the staff and I activities I undertake are excellent. However, the building is now dated and needs moderation. Car parking in Bridgend during the week is dire. Mainly due to BCBC staff parking there. This is unfair and has certainly curtailed my use of the facilities.”

“There are so many activities to choose from. The gym has many machines and as far as i can see they are all in working order. The staff are very helpful.”

“I have not been to the gym for around 3 years and was demotivated so through a friend and a gym buddy I reinstated my membership and have hand superb support from all the staff and even some old friends I made whist attending back in 2022/23 ish.”
