Tutor Hunt take a staggering 32% service fee for every lesson booked. Rip off for the tutor and a rip off for the parent when you can book direct with a highly qualified teacher online. Absolutely shocked at the nerve they have to do this.

Excellent tutor BUT terrible tutor organisation! I found an excellent English tutor and tried to find a maths tutor but the website blocked my contacts as I’d exceeded my limit ! So odd as I’m trying to find another tutor which means more money for the company which takes 33% commission!

Any potential tutors thinking of joining this company should be wary. I joined in July this year and applied for an enhanced DBS through the company they recommend, Personnel Checks. I chased up my application over the following weeks. On the 7 th October, I received an email from Personnel Checks saying that they contacted Tutorhunt to request further information for me, but had not received anything. I forwarded this to Tutorhunt, but with no response. I chased my application a few days later, and was told my DBS application had in fact now lapsed and I would have to start again. I was also told by Personnel Checks that they had emailed Tutorhunt on 5 th September requesting that they contact me for further details, but had received no response. I emailed Tutorhunt about the two missed opportunities to contact me and the lapse of my application, but have received no response . I also wrote a letter with the email evidence attached to the company owner, Mr John Underhill, but have had no response. I am really disappointed.

Want to save £741 AND get a top-quality tutor? Here's how I did it with just 10 seconds of research! A. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR PARENTS/STUDENTS I’ve split this into two parts: a short version with my main advice, and a longer story with more details. 1. SHORT VERSION: If you find a tutor on Tutorhunt or similar commission-based sites, search for them directly via Google or social media. This simple step can save you a lot of money and benefit your tutor too! 2. LONGER STORY: As a parent, I understand the importance of finding the best tutor within budget. When searching for a biology tutor for my son, I came across Tutorhunt, which seemed great at first glance. The site offered plenty of qualified tutors, but the rates were odd: £37, £43, £102 per hour. These rates felt off compared to round numbers like £35, £40, or £100. I was about to sign up, but first read the terms and conditions. As an accountant, I’m meticulous about the fine print, and something caught my eye: "Finders Fee Tutor." After some digging, I discovered Tutorhunt used to charge a one-off fee of £24.99 but had shifted to a commission-based model. I realised why the rates were so strange: tutors were factoring in Tutorhunt's commission! The tutor I wanted was charging £59 per hour on the site. So, I searched for the tutor on Google and in just 10 seconds, I found their personal website, where they charged only £40 per hour; a £19 difference! We booked directly through the tutor's website, and the lessons went great. Curious, I asked the tutor about Tutorhunt’s commission rate: a staggering 32%! The tutor explained that this commission forced them to either increase their rates on Tutorhunt (passing the cost to parents) or accept lower profits. As a result, the tutor's clients via Tutorhunt have dwindled. By bypassing Tutorhunt, both the tutor and I benefited. The tutor got their full rate, and I saved £19 per lesson. Over 39 lessons in the 2023/24 academic year, this small step saved me £741 as a result of a 10-second Google search! Tutorhunt's commission model can hurt both tutors and parents, forcing tutors to raise prices or struggle to acquire students. The tutor even mentioned that Tutorhunt sometimes didn’t pay them for lessons that were cancelled last minute, even if the client was charged! Reflecting on the old £24.99 finders fee, I would have gladly paid that. It was a far better deal for everyone involved. The bottom line: With just 10 seconds of Googling, I saved £741 over 39 lessons. If a tutor isn’t easily found outside of Tutorhunt, consider the math: pay £24.99 for contact details on the finders fee model or spend £741 via a commission-based platform. By bypassing Tutorhunt, we avoided unnecessary terms and conditions and enjoyed greater flexibility. It’s a win-win for both students and tutors! B. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR TUTORHUNT Tutorhunt, if you revert to your original finders' fee model, I'd gladly take down this review and give you a 5-star rating. It seems like your company has been struggling since switching to the commission-based model. I noticed that your contact number is no longer on the site, and my tutor mentioned you've roughly doubled your commission rates over the last 2 years. Clearly, you're trying to pinch pennies. Under this commission model, I foresee tough times ahead for Tutorhunt. No parent would willingly pay 32% more for the same service. It's okay to make mistakes, but recognising and correcting them is what makes a great company. You can still return to your successful finders' fee model: at £24.99, more parents and tutors would use your site. As a parent, I prefer the old model; it's far better than dealing with the current restrictive rules. The clock is ticking. Without change, Tutorhunt will end up like other commission-based platforms, so in a few years, people searching for Tutorhunt might just see this: 1. Search Tutorhunt on Google. 2. Click the link for the site 3. See this message: “This site can’t provide a secure connection ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR.” The choice is yours!

Struggling to get my profile approved because they are unable to check basic update dbs service! Asking me to get a new DBS (last issued in Dec 2022) despite being on update service they need to see my actual certificate (which I lost accidentally). I don’t understand when the same service is acceptable for schools in the UK why it isn’t for tutor hunt. I have gone through rigorous checks when starting to work as substitute teacher and all cleared. However, I can’t get through their site because it’s their policy to “see” the certificate when same or more update info can be checked online for free. Absolutely ridiculous policy and stuck in 19th century!

Have been tutor for more than two years and depsite low rate, offering core subjects and comprehensive profile, I have interest from one student more than a year ago. When I contact them for help, either their is automated message saying no one is availbale to help. The platform allows tutors to contact "students". I have maxed out the number of contacts per cycle on more than six occasions and there was no response from a single human being. This is despite new "students" who show that they created an accoutn just a few hours ago, of which there are in the order of tens per day. Highly suspect there is a bot generating "student" accounts which suspiciously leave written section blank where they are supposed to detail what they're looking for ALL accounts.

After 12 years of working as a tutor on this website with very good reviews I have to say that whoever runs it does not have the back of good tutors. It allows the customer to leave slanderous malicious reviews which are totally untrue to destroy the professionalism of the tutor. Tutors rely on good feedback to bring them more students. It only takes one bad apple that could ruin what was otherwise an excellent track record . There are people who are just nasty. The worst thing is there is NOTHING the tutor can do about it!!! Initially the slander was removed but when the client complained as to why her slander was removed the company reinstated it!!! Trying to get in touch with Mr John Underhill is also not possible and some of his staff who man the phones pretend to be the owner and manager. Yes indeed Miss Maury or whoever you really are . I wonder what your boss would do if he found out that you pretended to own this company. These people are not worth it. So if you have integrity and respect you would surely not allow slanderous reviews to be put up on your website. It's absolutely disgusting.

Tutor hunt used to be a service to connect students to tutors. It used to be for years the student would pay an amount to access the tutors contact details Then suddenly they changed their model. Now they take 25% commission of every lesson booked. You have no option but to book through them. Instead of getting £100 they will now get £1000s per student and per tutor. It's money grabbing greediness and unnecessary. Tutors have no option but to take severe cuts and make prices go up substantially. Terrible for everyone apart from the CEOs laughing at the bank. They do nothing other than gatekeep connecting people for this money.

Tutors, avoid Tutor Hunt at all costs. I have been with Tutor Hunt for many years and have a clean DBS record and they boycott and prevent my profile to be public, because I asked them if they regularly check all their tutor's DBS records. As an example, if one get a new DBS today, commit a crime tomorrow, one can be on Tutor Hunt, tutoring for 2 years before they see ones new application. This may allow many criminals to use their services to get to innocent children. How regularly does Tutor Hunt check the records of every tutor that holds an old and new DBS certificate? Tutors, avoid Tutor Hunt at all costs. They avoid certain email questions. Go to First Tutors instead - they are one of the top 10 in the UK. Parents beware. Ask Tutor Hunt to give you proof of a tutor's CLEAN record, and don't be satisfied only with proof of possessing a DBS certificate.

Dreadful website for tutors. Do not trust them with doing your DBS, they will keep the payment of £44.00, inventing inexistent problems with your application. Avoid, use First Tutors or other sites instead.

I have been a customer since 2018. The way they treated my tutor who had over 50 5 star reviews was disgusting. The way they never answer their emails is also very bad. Thankfully we still have tution for my son from the same amazing tutor. Do not recommend this organisation

Complete rip-off merchants! Tutor gets paid hardly anything: 25% commission on top of every lesson charged to the tutor and then tutor has to pay a premium rate per month if they want to appear at the top of student searches!!!

Really bad customer service from Tutor hunt's owner/call handler. Some good tutors, but 'Tutorful' are far more and better choices of tutors and definitely excellent customer service skills on the phone.

Tutorhunt are just way too expensive. 25% on top of every lesson and the parent has to pay! In times of Covid or even at anytime this is very harsh. It might have been a good site in the past but their fees are exorbitant and exploitative. Yes, agree with other comments, use Tutorsdirect a growing site set up by professional teachers and only charging 0.5%-1.5% on top of every lesson which is about 20 pence. Consideration given to parents and tutors. Also other sites are First Tutors which charges a one-off fee and that is it. Searchtutors.co.uk is free as is The TutorWebsite. Also teachers/tutors put ads in shop windows/ads on facebook local groups: just type in tuition/private tuition/private tutors or the subject you are looking for. Stop these greedy agencies who do not do anything only just set up a platform which runs itself and "Directors" do not do any work just "steal" your money! Good luck in finding the best tutor for your child! Anonymous
