Not impressed with Tutor Hunt. They have now started adding between 20 - 25% commission on to every lesson a tutor teaches making it extremely expensive for parents and for tutors. Tutors were not informed and once they signed up to on-line tutoring could not go back to a one-off fee paying system. Parents and students do not know about this but are now being informed by tutors and teachers who used to use their site. I have as a parent researched this and just not impressed with what they have done. They used to be a good site and I have used them before but seem to have become too greedy. Also the sites are monitored. Now I have searched on other sites : First tutors/The Tutor Website or Searchtutors.co.uk for the one-off fee or The Tutor Website and Searchtutors.co.uk are absolutely free to parents/students and tutors or just use your local shop windows or local facebook group sites for tutors. Good luck Anonymous parent

Tutor hunt is now charging commission and rising prices for parents. It’s a terrible situation! Parents need to take action- tutors cannot revert back to old system they signed up for.

While the site does have plenty of choice, trying to communicate with a prospective tutor was so ridiculous I gave up. Every reply she sent took more than 14 hours to arrive (I could see the date stamps) meaning I didn’t receive them until the following day. After four days of one reply per day as we tried to discuss requirements and set a date/time, I gave up and used a different site where I was able to do this in just one day. I presume the high commission Tutor Hunt now charges has made them justifiably paranoid people will try to swap contact details and they are vetting emails more closely - not that any of those I sent or received had any context details at all. Tutor Hunt told me they had to look manually at some emails at weekends hence a “slight delay”. This was not a weekend and the delays were not “slight”. First Tutors far easier.

I've been working for Tutorhunt for eight years and unfortunately I had to increase my fees because now they charge tutors a commission of 25% !! On top of this their service is aaawful! I've had some technical problems and when I emailed them they did not reply at all. In one occasion a student called them and requested to change the day of the lesson, they changed it automatically without asking me whether I was available or not!!! I was so, sooo angry as I found this extremely unprofessional. I called them and they could not give me a proper explanation not even an apology!!. Now I need to cancel a lesson with a student who told me is seriously ill, I've contacted them and they keep ignoring me. I can cancel it myself but if I do I get the message I've attached. A terrible company to work with...

I do tutoring for the last 20 years on line and I have more that 600 hundred successfuI students. I don’t understand why tutor hunt owner insist that student should pay him first and then he paid the tutors it doesn’t make any senses, he is going to lose many tutors because of this, and they begin to charge extra money from tutors for online lesson, this is why I don’t recommend tutor hunt any more to any one. I have been a tutor with tutor hunt for a long time. Since they started taking commission from tutors for online tutoring the charging rates have dramatically increased and out of reach for many parents. Mist unfortunate.

After tutoring with Tutorhunt happily for over 10 years they have changed the system to really rip off students. They gave no warning or notification to tutors. They have lost their distinctive character. I’ll be off, I think! Students beware!!! Tutorhunt are charging a huge commission! Altogether very disappointing after providing such a good platform for years.

Dreadful website which has capitalized on people's need for tutors at this time. Customer service is a joke. Tutorhunt have changed their platform to charge 20 - 25% commission. When asked I was told that long term tutors did not have to pay this charge. When I informed customer service that I had been on the site for over 5 years - I was told a different story.

It’s not about the website but the tutor to be honest I believe that the fee of £24 for getting the tutors contact details are exorbitant high

As a tutor I do not have the power to cancel lessons without the tutorhunt website docking my booking score till I do no longer appear on the tutorhunt search system. Me and the client both contacted tutorhunt as we wanted to cancel bookings over Christmas to the clients wishes. The client had no control over what the bookings were and if I cancelled them my booking score would drop so dramatically that I was basically shunned from the system. The system they use does not benefit either the client or tutor and does it best to make the most money out of you with the 25% commission.

Firstly I would like to say I am sure this site is legitimate and there are genuine tutors willing to help. However my daughters experience has been far from positive as the tutor which I paid a fee of £23 for has no subject knowledge of what we require (this was not brought to light before we purchased their details). Following a rather unusual phone call the tutor has now sent an abusive email. I fear this is instead of admitting lack of subject knowledge. As a result I would say stay away from this site, however this could be an isolated incident.

This is probably the worst site that I have visited to try and get a teacher for Spanish. The fee to be sold information about a prospective tutor is ridiculous esp as there is no way that you can guage the quality of what you are getting. This actually reminded me of an adult dating site - needless to say I looked elsewhere and actually signed up with a local college with a reputable track record and this has worked out at £3.64 per hour as opposed to £15 - £40p.h.

I paid for Chloes details and I was told she would deliver paperwork to my address. This never arrived and she never came when arranged. She has now disappeared if the face of earth and she will not return calls or emails. These 'tutors need to remember there are children's futures involved!!!

False advertising. Expect to pay more than they tell you of. You have to pay to release a tutors details, they tell you if this also mention nothing else to pay. After this they take money from each lesson on top of what the tutor is taking, they don’t tell you about this, they do say they will charge extra for using their software for lessons but again don’t mention that you HAVE to pay if you use or don’t use their software. I sent a message in regards to clarification of this but still waiting for reply.

I haven't had a great experience with tutor hunt. Many of the listed tutors seem to now be inactive. Most of those who were suggested as 'potential matches' have failed to answer my enquiry about maths tuition for my son. I did hear back from a tutor listed as living 7 miles away, who indicated being happy to assist my son with one-to-one tuition. He also indicated being available on the day we requested. However, 2-3 weeks (after I'd purchased his details) he contacted me and suggested doing online tuition instead. My son is autistic and this option did not appeal to him. Nor do think it was appropriate in terms of matching his learning or communication style. I contacted the tutor to indicate our preference for one-to-one tuition which he initially said he could offer in line with my son's needs. However, I noticed he was now living in a town more than 80 miles away. I do not believe for one minute that his was move was completely unplanned. He must have known it was on the cards when he agreed to offer my son tuition. I am now very reluctant to purchase the contact details of another tutor who could similarly mislead us. I think I'll be focusing my search elsewhere.
