Alice is a fabulous Physics tutor for A Level . She explains everything so well and my son feels that she explains the subject in more depth than his teachers (who are good) but she just helps him to gain that greater depth of understanding. Cant recommend her enough.

Any potential tutors thinking of joining this company should be wary. I joined in July this year and applied for an enhanced DBS through the company they recommend, Personnel Checks. I chased up my application over the following weeks. On the 7 th October, I received an email from Personnel Checks saying that they contacted Tutorhunt to request further information for me, but had not received anything. I forwarded this to Tutorhunt, but with no response. I chased my application a few days later, and was told my DBS application had in fact now lapsed and I would have to start again. I was also told by Personnel Checks that they had emailed Tutorhunt on 5 th September requesting that they contact me for further details, but had received no response. I emailed Tutorhunt about the two missed opportunities to contact me and the lapse of my application, but have received no response . I also wrote a letter with the email evidence attached to the company owner, Mr John Underhill, but have had no response. I am really disappointed.

Our daughter, Ruby, has had a few sessions with Ciara now. We are absolutely delighted with the confidence Ciara is giving Ruby in Biology A Level. Ciara has a calm, patient, warm and encouraging teaching style which is bringing the very best out of Ruby. We feel that with Ciara`s support and guidance, Ruby will do really well in her exams. We would definitely recommend Ciara to any parent or student.

John taught maths to my daughter for two months. She was very pleased with her online lessons, he made her feel at ease and explained all of the topics in detail. My daughter has passed her GCSE with a grade four and is very pleased with the result. A big thank you to John

Connie has been absolutely brilliant in all ways. I started lessons with her in year 12 when I was struggling a lot with biology and I just got my A-level A grade in it yesterday! Her exam question-centered approach to lessons has been invaluable in helping me both improve my approach to them as well as apply and solidify my knowledge. She is always prepared to explain any misconceptions in a clear and easy-to-understand way, which has helped me better understand the whole curriculum. Connie is also a lovely person, helping not just with my academics but also my mindset. She is very encouraging and makes the lesson a safe space and this encouragement truly helped my achieve my grades. I would strongly recommend Connie to anyone looking to improve their biology grade. Thank you so much, Connie!

Tutor Hunt provided lots of options for my son to receive online tuition in A-Level Chemistry. My son received weekly online tuition with Peter Pritchard throughout his two years at Sixth Form. The input from Peter made a huge difference to my son`s learning journey and he was instrumental to his success in Chemistry. He is now going to study BSc Hons Pharmacology at Nottingham Trent University. Peter Pritchard is a highly professional tutor, he was very committed to my son`s education and development, providing excellent, in-depth information about all aspects of the Chemistry A-level, including all course requirements, module components, learning styles and exam techniques. He provided lots of useful resources for further, independent study. Peter Pritchard was also very dedicated to keeping me updated about my son`s progress. In my son`s words "Peter is a very good teacher, who explains all aspects of the course in fine detail. He gives lots of homework to prepare his students for exams and to ensure that they understand the content. Peter has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Chemistry in both an academic and industry context. I would highly recommend Peter for anyone studying Chemistry A-level."

Want to save £741 AND get a top-quality tutor? Here's how I did it with just 10 seconds of research! A. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR PARENTS/STUDENTS I’ve split this into two parts: a short version with my main advice, and a longer story with more details. 1. SHORT VERSION: If you find a tutor on Tutorhunt or similar commission-based sites, search for them directly via Google or social media. This simple step can save you a lot of money and benefit your tutor too! 2. LONGER STORY: As a parent, I understand the importance of finding the best tutor within budget. When searching for a biology tutor for my son, I came across Tutorhunt, which seemed great at first glance. The site offered plenty of qualified tutors, but the rates were odd: £37, £43, £102 per hour. These rates felt off compared to round numbers like £35, £40, or £100. I was about to sign up, but first read the terms and conditions. As an accountant, I’m meticulous about the fine print, and something caught my eye: "Finders Fee Tutor." After some digging, I discovered Tutorhunt used to charge a one-off fee of £24.99 but had shifted to a commission-based model. I realised why the rates were so strange: tutors were factoring in Tutorhunt's commission! The tutor I wanted was charging £59 per hour on the site. So, I searched for the tutor on Google and in just 10 seconds, I found their personal website, where they charged only £40 per hour; a £19 difference! We booked directly through the tutor's website, and the lessons went great. Curious, I asked the tutor about Tutorhunt’s commission rate: a staggering 32%! The tutor explained that this commission forced them to either increase their rates on Tutorhunt (passing the cost to parents) or accept lower profits. As a result, the tutor's clients via Tutorhunt have dwindled. By bypassing Tutorhunt, both the tutor and I benefited. The tutor got their full rate, and I saved £19 per lesson. Over 39 lessons in the 2023/24 academic year, this small step saved me £741 as a result of a 10-second Google search! Tutorhunt's commission model can hurt both tutors and parents, forcing tutors to raise prices or struggle to acquire students. The tutor even mentioned that Tutorhunt sometimes didn’t pay them for lessons that were cancelled last minute, even if the client was charged! Reflecting on the old £24.99 finders fee, I would have gladly paid that. It was a far better deal for everyone involved. The bottom line: With just 10 seconds of Googling, I saved £741 over 39 lessons. If a tutor isn’t easily found outside of Tutorhunt, consider the math: pay £24.99 for contact details on the finders fee model or spend £741 via a commission-based platform. By bypassing Tutorhunt, we avoided unnecessary terms and conditions and enjoyed greater flexibility. It’s a win-win for both students and tutors! B. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR TUTORHUNT Tutorhunt, if you revert to your original finders' fee model, I'd gladly take down this review and give you a 5-star rating. It seems like your company has been struggling since switching to the commission-based model. I noticed that your contact number is no longer on the site, and my tutor mentioned you've roughly doubled your commission rates over the last 2 years. Clearly, you're trying to pinch pennies. Under this commission model, I foresee tough times ahead for Tutorhunt. No parent would willingly pay 32% more for the same service. It's okay to make mistakes, but recognising and correcting them is what makes a great company. You can still return to your successful finders' fee model: at £24.99, more parents and tutors would use your site. As a parent, I prefer the old model; it's far better than dealing with the current restrictive rules. The clock is ticking. Without change, Tutorhunt will end up like other commission-based platforms, so in a few years, people searching for Tutorhunt might just see this: 1. Search Tutorhunt on Google. 2. Click the link for the site 3. See this message: “This site can’t provide a secure connection ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR.” The choice is yours!
