About True Traveller:

True Traveller - Travel Insurance designed by Travellers

When travelling overseas, the one thing you should never skimp on is your travel insurance cover, as should things go wrong you want the very best cover for you and your possessions.

At The True Traveller, we’re used to advising people on travelling all around the world, and due to feedback from our customers we’ve changed our insurance website, made it even better value and extended the range of products.

On Single Trips, we offer three Policies called True Value, Traveller and Traveller Plus. True Value is designed for travellers under 40 years of age, and is designed for last minute travellers and backpackers. The Traveller policy, our most popular, is designed for holiday makers and adventurous travellers alike, and Traveller Plus gives enhanced medical and cancellation cover.

On our Multi Trip Policies, again we offer the Traveller policy valid for unlimited trips throughout the year for durations up to 30 days, and the Traveller Plus policy which offers enhanced cover for unlimited trips lasting up to 70 days. We also have a budget True Value Policy for travellers under 40 years of age.

We’ve tried to get the prices as keen as possible on all our insurances. This means on the Single Trip and Multi-Trip you have the option to exclude Baggage Cover as this may well be covered in your Home Contents insurance; you also have the option to add-in different activity packs. The Traveller Pack covers 92 of the regular holiday activities which you will get involved in, and covers clerical/non-manual work as standard. The Adventure Pack covers a further 41 activities and is designed for the more adventurous traveller and backpacker, covering trekking to 4,600m, as well as volunteer work and manual work. The Extreme and Ultimate Packs covers all the more extreme and ultimate adventures. The Extreme covers trekking over 4,600m to any altitude, as well as Scuba Diving to 50M. The Ultimate covers Hang Gliding, Mountaineering and Polo to name just three of the Ultimate adventures!

I have recently returned from doing the Everest Base Camp trek. I didn’t need to use my insurance for emergency evacuation (thankfully) but I did drop my iPhone on day one of the trek from one of the rope bridges, meaning no phone for 2 weeks. Luckily a fellow trekker took pics for me and I just submitted a claim not expecting to get anything. I was paid out in a week! Wish I’d raised my cover, but the settlement goes half way towards my new phone. I’ve never made a claim before, so super chuffed the first time I needed to, it was paid. True Traveller weren’t the cheapest, but you obviously get what you pay for and I feel confident that had I needed them in a medical emergency, they would have come through for me.

Do not use. They have loopholes to get out of everything.

Hi there One of the odd situations is that we cannot address negative reviews as it would breach the privacy of our customers. Suffice to say, sure we have terms and conditions like any insurer which we try very hard to bring to the attention of our customers before they take out a policy. No claims have been made against this policy yet, but we can see the customer from his review is in Canada, where we hope he has an enjoyable stay. True Traveller

I had to cancel a trip due to an injury. True Traveller were amazing with their assistance on claiming. They made it seamless and were very patient whil I waited for the medical certificate.

Very easy to fill the form and complete the insurance. The best price for me. I haven't used (and I hope I don't need) customer support yet

Our claim was handled quickly and efficiently. Proof of receipts were requested and a description and that was all. It was all completed via their online portal, so no need for human intervention or unnecessary conversations. Definitely recommend!

Khatia dealt with my claim and was absolutely wonderful. She answered all my questions before I submitted my claim and the organised the claims process in less that 2 days! I've never made an insurance claim before but I can't imagine there being a better company to use if I'm honest, I've never heard of such a quick and easy process for someone.

Broke my tooth, went to the dentist, sent a receipt with explanation, within 2 weeks I received payment back. Excelently done.

Spent over £600 on a year's policy. The coverage for valuables is only £400, we were unfortunately victims of theft when backpacking. I put in a claim for our valuables, truetraveller depreciated any electronic (phone etc) at 100% for anything older than 4 years. My phone was more than 4 years old and therefore worth £0 in Truetravellers eyes.. My Nintendo Switch was depreciated by 80% to be worth £50. We had cash stolen and despite adding on cash and document cover we were unable to claim for any of it as it was not in a locked safety deposit box at the time it was stolen, obviously a locked deposit box would have prevented it being stolen in the first place so what a pointless add-on that was. I know these things were in the policy prior to me purchasing and you should be aware etc etc but in the real world you just assume with good insurance you are covered. Total stolen goods value approximately £1500, my successful insurance claim paid out £75 after the excess. Lovely.

Hi there Thanks for your email, and sorry to hear of your losses. I'm very sorry, but cash losses with any policy anywhere will only be covered if the cash is on the person or in a locked safe, whether in the hotel room or in reception. Our depreciation table was revised with the new 2025 policy in last February, and is on our website, and electronic equipment is depreciated by 10% a year up to a maximum of 60%. I don't have access to the claims files but I've pinged your review to our Ops Manager to review. True Traveller

I claimed medication expenses. It was a small amount but the claim was handed promptly.

I recently filed my first claim with True Traveller after an unexpected incident. The process was smooth-document uploads were simple, and the adjuster provided clear email updates. The payout arrived promptly, matching their initial estimate. The overall experience was efficient and stress-free. For someone navigating their first insurance claim, they delivered exactly what I needed: no surprises, no drama.

Claim was handled with minimal fuss, and paid out within 2 weeks of sending documentation for claim. Only downside is Axa only offered me a single amount against my claim, and advised they will not pay out any more should another injury for the same part of my body, talked or unrelated, during the duration of my claim. They offered me a maximum of 5k against an injury to receive an emergency procedure in Mexico towards my back, instead of ending my trip and sending me home to have it done in the UK (I would need to have found the provider myself when back). As I didn’t want to end my 9 months travelling trip after 1 month, I decided to accept the offer (reminder to add on Traveller Resumption to your quote). But True traveller were efficient and kept me updated through out the entirety of my claim. Really wonderful

How wonderful there is a company to get the necessary travel insurance regardless of age and regardless whether you're already underway. With all the travel opportunities and way of living nowadays this could be offered as something inclusive with all travel insurance companies. So glad True Traveller truly understands!
