True Traveller - Travel Insurance designed by Travellers

When travelling overseas, the one thing you should never skimp on is your travel insurance cover, as should things go wrong you want the very best cover for you and your possessions.

At The True Traveller, we’re used to advising people on travelling all around the world, and due to feedback from our customers we’ve changed our insurance website, made it even better value and extended the range of products.

On Single Trips, we offer three Policies called True Value, Traveller and Traveller Plus. True Value is designed for travellers under 40 years of age, and is designed for last minute travellers and backpackers. The Traveller policy, our most popular, is designed for holiday makers and adventurous travellers alike, and Traveller Plus gives enhanced medical and cancellation cover.

On our Multi Trip Policies, again we offer the Traveller policy valid for unlimited trips throughout the year for durations up to 30 days, and the Traveller Plus policy which offers enhanced cover for unlimited trips lasting up to 70 days. We also have a budget True Value Policy for travellers under 40 years of age.

We’ve tried to get the prices as keen as possible on all our insurances. This means on the Single Trip and Multi-Trip you have the option to exclude Baggage Cover as this may well be covered in your Home Contents insurance; you also have the option to add-in different activity packs. The Traveller Pack covers 92 of the regular holiday activities which you will get involved in, and covers clerical/non-manual work as standard. The Adventure Pack covers a further 41 activities and is designed for the more adventurous traveller and backpacker, covering trekking to 4,600m, as well as volunteer work and manual work. The Extreme and Ultimate Packs covers all the more extreme and ultimate adventures. The Extreme covers trekking over 4,600m to any altitude, as well as Scuba Diving to 50M. The Ultimate covers Hang Gliding, Mountaineering and Polo to name just three of the Ultimate adventures!

Hi there Thanks for your feedback. We understand travel insurance can feel expensive at times. Premiums are worked out individually and are mainly affected by your age and any pre-existing medical conditions, as these increase the risk of needing treatment abroad. As your policy has now ended, we’re unable to review the cover in detail, but we always aim to keep prices fair while making sure travellers are properly protected. The True Traveller Team.

“I had to claim 3 months into an 18 month trip for a back injury. The claims process was extremely easy to follow and used simple language, no jargon. My claim was then paid in full just a few days later. Very impressed with the ease and quick turnaround, and glad I chose True Traveller for my working holiday visa insurance.”

“I recommend this travel insurance 100% (and their insuring company AXA Czech Republic). I went for a surf trip to very remote island in North Sumatra. I had an accident while surfing and my board hit me in the face. Because there is no modern hospital nearby, I had to travel more than 12 hours to nearest modern hospital where I got a medical examination and CT scan. It required a speedboat, taxi and a plane to get there. Week after my accident I had my case approved by their medical team and had been reimbursed 2 days after I made my claim for every single expense I had during this event. The only thing I would suggest for an improvement would be a possibility to contact them in case of emergency with a WhatsApp or another online platform. There was no phone reception (just satellite WiFi) on the island so the only way I could contact TT was via email and the response time was longer.”

“I travel a lot. Started using TrueTraveller for over a year now. Ended up last year having to make a hospital trip abroad and TT authorised investigations and potential treatment within about an hour after a couple of phone calls. Then this year I had to cut short a trip because of family illness. After assembling all the supporting documentation (invoices and medical certificate), I submitted my claim online on a Friday evening. Monday morning received a message that the claim would be paid in full, no questions asked. Would definitely recommend them highly.”

“My claim was handled by Khatia extremely efficiently and quickly. Once I had uploaded the douments and submitted my claim she had approved my claim within around 3 hours and the money was in my account around 2 hours later - exceptional service! I would recomment truetraveller to anyone. I was unsure if I could claim the non-sterling transaction fee that I was charged for using my credit card to pay abroad so hadn't claimed it initially. However when I checked with Khatia she put through that claim immediately. Just incredible service.”

“i was really struggling to find insurance thay clearly showed what altitude i could climb up to for climbing kilimanjaro. many woukd advertise extreme sports or hiking and then cut you off at 4000m, for these guys it was a nice website and displayed clearly....now lets hope i dont have to use it! i also booked ski insurance and excess hire car for any future trips i do next year. Cant comment aboht value as i am new to belgium and i currently feel like im being ripped off by everything i try to do in this country!”

“I don't normally write reviews, but I am very pleasantly surprised with how efficiently my claim was handled. I missed a flight connection due to a delay with a domestic airline, had to buy a new one-way ticket to return home (which as you can imagine cost a fortune), and was naturally very anxious about recovering the funds. I submitted everything online and within a question of hours, the claim was approved and the airline ticket plus emergency hotel received in my bank account. In a world where insurance companies can be tricky, I am so glad I took out insurance with True Traveller and would definitely consider renewing.”
