True Traveller - Travel Insurance designed by Travellers

When travelling overseas, the one thing you should never skimp on is your travel insurance cover, as should things go wrong you want the very best cover for you and your possessions.

At The True Traveller, we’re used to advising people on travelling all around the world, and due to feedback from our customers we’ve changed our insurance website, made it even better value and extended the range of products.

On Single Trips, we offer three Policies called True Value, Traveller and Traveller Plus. True Value is designed for travellers under 40 years of age, and is designed for last minute travellers and backpackers. The Traveller policy, our most popular, is designed for holiday makers and adventurous travellers alike, and Traveller Plus gives enhanced medical and cancellation cover.

On our Multi Trip Policies, again we offer the Traveller policy valid for unlimited trips throughout the year for durations up to 30 days, and the Traveller Plus policy which offers enhanced cover for unlimited trips lasting up to 70 days. We also have a budget True Value Policy for travellers under 40 years of age.

We’ve tried to get the prices as keen as possible on all our insurances. This means on the Single Trip and Multi-Trip you have the option to exclude Baggage Cover as this may well be covered in your Home Contents insurance; you also have the option to add-in different activity packs. The Traveller Pack covers 92 of the regular holiday activities which you will get involved in, and covers clerical/non-manual work as standard. The Adventure Pack covers a further 41 activities and is designed for the more adventurous traveller and backpacker, covering trekking to 4,600m, as well as volunteer work and manual work. The Extreme and Ultimate Packs covers all the more extreme and ultimate adventures. The Extreme covers trekking over 4,600m to any altitude, as well as Scuba Diving to 50M. The Ultimate covers Hang Gliding, Mountaineering and Polo to name just three of the Ultimate adventures!

Thank you for your review, Mr Bertels. We’re pleased you found the cover clear and well suited to adventurous travellers, although we appreciate you felt the price was high. Our premiums reflect a number of factors, including the destination, length of trip, age of the traveller and the level of activity cover selected. More adventurous activities can increase the cost because of the additional risk involved, but we always try to offer comprehensive cover at a fair price. It isn't intended to be discriminatory; age limits are a normal underwriting feature of travel insurance policies and reflect the risk parameters within which the policy has been designed and priced. For travellers over 75, we don't simply leave them without an option. We direct customers to Goodtogo Insurance, which specialises in providing travel insurance for older travellers. “Used last year for a snowboard season policy and had an accident which involved an airlift, and operation and a lot of claims. TrueTraveller were exceptionally good right from the 3am European time call from the mountainside and right the way through til the final invoice came in almost 5 months later. I can’t fault their customer support, cover or overall amazingly helpful attitude. Have just bought another Policy for the upcoming season (but hoping won’t need it this time). Can’t recommend highly enough. They were so good.”

“Well, I guess you really only know how good your insurer is if you have to make a claim… however, if the claims process is anything like the application process, which was easy and straightforward, I’d have to say True Traveller is great. I have dual citizenship and making a one way journey which many insurers don’t like but this one does and at a reasonable cost so I’m happy .”

“It was very easy to get travel insurance while already abroad. I didn't realise my annual travel insurance expired while I was away, so when I realised I searched online to fine one that was reasonable and not extortionate. True Traveller was reasonable and sorted out fairly quickly too.”

“I forgot holiday insurance on a trip to Turkey. Most companies will not insure ince the trip has started. This was more expensive than holiday insurance taken on time. But, the cover was needed and was valid from time of purchase.”

“Not made a claim, but I found it very straightforward to get a quote and to process the payment, etc. The information they send is clear and easy to understand. Prices for long term backpacker cover appear competitive compared to other insurers”
