We travelled to Sri Lanka in February 2024. TravelLocal put us in touch with a local agent who put together a generally good tour meeting our wish list. We received a brief set of trip notes after confirming our booking. For each day there were a few pictures and one or 2 sentences saying where we were staying and a description such as "Transfer from Wilpattu to Harbarana, afternoon relax by the pool". We expected a more comprehensive itinerary to be provided prior to departure or on arrival. This never materialised which caused a few problems during our trip. Our driver had the same notes. For example our tour included several days of trekking yet the notes did not include the distances, altitudes or the fact that we needed to carry clothes and toiletries for 1 overnight stay. Our driver assumed we knew this. Hence we spent one night in a basic chilly trekking lodge where they didn't even provide soap never mind toothbrushes! We managed but this could have been avoided by clear communication in the trip notes. Another example was the hotel where we were stayed on our wedding anniversary was meat and alcohol free, this would not normally be an issue but it would have been good to know in advance as we spent the previous days at a remote farm stay and were looking forward to a celebratory evening. TravelLocal only sent a very brief feedback request which is a concern as they should be learning from travellers experiences and looking to fix any problems.

Second time I have used you - this time was a poor experience. I had to complain to the uk part as the Georgian agent was poor she was then replaced. This improved the service however the main problem is using an agent to book for three countries - she had no knowledge on Armenia/ Azerbaijan and had to keep going back and forth to the third parties in these countries. Similarity for the itinerary suggested for these countries I shared it on a Facebook group and was given advice that it was not in the best order for wasting time/ travel - this was disappointing as she should be the expert. I don’t think you should have agent using third parties for other countries - I had to go back and forth 9 times until the itinerary was correct. I had to do a lot of my own research for this trip and felt like all the agent did for me was book it- there wasn’t much advice!

So far so good. This is the first time we have used travellocal. Travellocal referred us to Ecole Travel and they are making arrangements for our 16 day tour to Costa Rica. My travel partner and I searched the web to find reviews of Ecole and travellocal. We found few. We got worried and thought we may have been duped after we sent our payment of $3,900.
