Hello, Thank you for your review. I have taken a look at your order and can see you have ordered shelves suitable for solid walls only. We do have options for plasterboard walls with a different fixing method that suitable grips the back of the plasterboard. The advise you are referring to is an additional optional precaution. I have taken a look at your email and our reply and can see there was no mention that you were trying to fit to a plasterboard wall, just that the shelf was sloping forward which would would be the case if you are trying to fit our solid wall fixings to a plasterboard wall. The fitting instruction do state they are suitable for solid walls only (or timber studs) and the product listing also has a link to our plasterboard options. In addition to this we sent a very detailed reply to you about the points you had mentioned trying our very best to help. I think it is unfair you have put in your review that our policy is not to offer refunds. We actually have a very fair policy in terms of refunds and we allow our products ordered online to be returned to us for a refund if not installed even though they are are handmade to order. I can also see in the email we sent to you on the 19th July that although you had installed your shelves my college Dave had said he would make an exception and would happily accept your return and offer a refund as we could see how unhappy you were, however we never got a reply to this. If the issue is still unresolved or you still have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us. Many thanks Rebecca

Totally disappointed. The fittings supplied are not strong enough for the floating shelves, so we now need to go and buy some brackets as well.

Hi Bev, we are sorry to hear you are disappointed with your order. I have checked through our emails and you have not been in touch with us to to elaborate why you are not happy with the item you have received. Would you like to send us over a photo so we can take a look and offer our advice? As Oak is a natural product each piece can differ with regards to knots/cracks, grain and colour, it all depends on what tree it has been cut from. Our website advertisements do reflect these natural variations. Please email us at info@traditionalbeams.com and we would be happy to take look over your order and exchange/offer a refund.

Did not look like website photo at alI REALLY DISAPPOINTED. I ordered a rustic, worn beam to compliment my lounge. It did not look anything like what I ordered, its new looking with no signs of ageing. Unfortunately the builders put it in before I got home. Company stated this was the beam I ordered. Paid to have it taken out and used it IN my log burner instead!! Do not recommend and will not return.

Hello Nicola, Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I have looked over the email you sent us and the photos of your beam. It appears you may be comparing your beam to just one photo on our website when we have a large variety of photos to give a good representation of how the beams can vary in character. We have photos showing beams with lots of cracks and photos showing beams with no cracks at all so it is disappointing you have left a negative review and not based your purchase on all the information supplied. As oak is a natural product each one varies in regards to cracks and knots and other distinguishing features and we do try to be as clear as possible about this, which is why we show a range of photos on the product page where you purchased your beam. If a customer leaves a note on the order to select one with more cracks, we do try our best to do this but if no notes are left then we assume that you are happy to receive a beam with any varying amount of cracks. The aged style refers to the way we shape the beam, with textured edges and a brushed finish which raises the grain. I can see from your photo this has been done. In addition to this a lot of our photos have been taken in homes months after installation at which point beams will have had time to adjust and may have cracked further. On your email you were planning on ordering another 3 items so its a shock to now hear that you will not return and that you disliked your beam so much. We also do accept returns incase customers are not happy however on this occasion you waited until the beam had been fully installed before getting in touch which unfortunately we can not do an awful lot about. We also advise on our website that beams are checked over and that they are left to acclimatise for 2 weeks prior to installation, we feel if our advise had been followed the installation could have also been avoided and we could have swapped the beam to something with more cracks so that you were much happier with your purchase. I have attached the photo of your beam for reference to this review as we do believe this is a beautiful beam with some lovely character. I'm sorry again that you did not have a good experience.

I was so disappointed with the quality of this beam. We ordered the same type as in the picture and it looked nothing like it. The beam looked very manufactured and far too treated. So much so there was yellow stain around all the beam cracks. I haven’t bothered asking for refund yet but I would love one.

Hello William, Thank you for your review. I am disappointed to hear you are not happy with your beam. I have had a good look at the photo you attached. Each piece is completely unique so can vary in regards to distinguishing features such as cracks and knots. I noticed you also chose our classic beam which is the most modern looking style, we do have aged beams which are more natural looking. In regards to the yellow staining, I am not sure what has caused this and we have never seen this before. You actually selecting our 'light' finish which is simply a clear wax so there isn't actually any colour in the wax on this finish so the yellow marks are not from over staining. If you had got in touch with us about this to let us know these marks have developed we would have certainly replaced this for you without hesitation free of charge so its disappointing you didn't give us chance to resolve this.

I received my beam and it was at first fine. As it is real oak there are changes to be expected within weeks an unsightly crack along the top. Which is rough and would cut your finger to touch Where I can appreciate the rustic look a hideous looking raised crack I would. I am disappointed with the response from the traditional beam staff

Hello Catherine, I'm very disappointed to hear you're not happy with our customer service as we do try very hard to make sure our customers are satisfied. Can you message us to elaborate on this issue as its difficult to improve without knowing what was wrong and we would love to get to the bottom of this issue for you. I have searched your email address and can't find any message from you other than a photo sent to us with no message. Many thanks, Rebecca

Lovely colour but splits in only one half of the face make this unusable. I understand that wood has natural imperfections but this piece should never have been used. I also asked for the item to be delivered to a safe place (rear outbuilding)and it was left in the garden.

Hello Anthony. We are very sorry you are not satisfied with the product. We are experts in the oak beam industry and your photos show exactly how the beam should look if air dried and it also looks how we advertise the beams on our website. We feel we make it very clear what the customer is buying. Although we have a returns policy where we allow customers to return their beam if they change their mind we do ask customers not to install/use the beam if they are unhappy with how it looks and wanting to return it and we ask it is returned in the condition that it was delivered. As oak is a natural product there is no guarantee where cracks will appear. Each piece is unique and cracks like this can not be treated as defects. On the other hand we will look into the delivery not being left in a safe location and apologise for this. Thank you

Hello Kinga, Firstly let me apologise for the inconvenience. I am really disappointed to hear you think our service is bad just due to the fact you didn't think the screws were adequate. We put so much effort into our customer service and aim to offer nothing less than exceptional customer service. We understand your concern about the screws and appreciate they may not look as strong as they actually are. We go with the manufacturers guideline on the brackets for the weight it can hold and we have never had a problem with beams not being secure enough once installed. Their look may be deceiving. We also state that these screw can only be used on masonry walls or where timber uprights can be located, otherwise they will not be suitable. Unfortunately it is impossible for us to supply screws that work with every scenario and in other case it may be that other types of screws will need to be purchased yourself. I hope this clears things up. and if there is anything else we can help with then don't hesitate to get in touch.

Beam had lots of large cracks more than we would expect after drying process But main issue is the brackets given the weight of the beam they were not very substantial and are 1mm thinner than holes in beam, so beam slips away from wall as nothing to hold it in. Was fitted with two friends both tradesmen who know what they are doing, so followed fitting instructions exactly Very disappointing

Hello John, We are very sorry that you feel the screws and beam were not adequate. This is the first bad review this year in regards to the quality of the beam and fixings so it comes as a bit of a shock to us and we are very disappointed we did not meet your expectations. Our customer satisfaction is important to us. Firstly we do recommend waiting around a week before install so that the beam can acclimatise to your room temperature to reduce movement and make sure you're happy. The beam should crack during this process but not a huge amount. If you feel your beam has cracked more than it should we would be more than happy to take a look if you send us some photos to info@traditionalbeams.com so we can check this out. We would replace a beam if it has cracked a substantial amount more than it should. The screws have to be slightly thinner than the holes so that the beam fits over them however it should not be falling off. Did you fit to a masonry or timber stud wall? Sometimes if you fit to a plasterboard wall with a cavity behind there is nothing for the screws to hold onto and this can cause them to drop. We are very sorry again for your disappointment.
