“There was a wide selection of courses so I was able to choose the one that I thought would suit me best. Self directed study worked very well for me, but I was astounded at the complete lack of citations of any references to the theoretical knowledge underpinning the content. I also found it very difficult to not engage in much critical thinking about the content, it was very prescriptive and, at times, based on my existing teaching experience, I disagreed with what I was being asked to do as a TEFL teacher, but there was little room for debate. Although the assessments were varied, the expectations were high, in terms of word limits, which constrained answers. It is really difficult to 'analyse' a concept in 100 words, to a good academic standard, for example. The learning outcomes of each assessment could have been much clearer. Despite the many frustrations with what I was being asked to do and the manner in which I was asked to respond in assessments, once I had worked out that I was only required to reproduce TEFL information, I found it easier to achieve.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed this course! My only suggestion would be to include a feature to speed up the videos for those who are a bit time-poor. Other than that, I highly recommend this course- it was informative and engaging.”

“I greatly appreciate the TEFL Org course. I thought it was thoughtful, thorough, and well-organized. I feel much better prepared to teach English learners of all levels! I especially appreciated having videos of example lessons for real students. The only aspect of the course that I thought was too long was the modules on online/phone teaching and teaching large classes; these could have been shorter as there was little new information contributed during these modules.”

“I thought that the course was very well laid out and the site was easy to navigate. I thought that the teaching was very good and watching the class videos was helpful. My only negative was that in the entire course, the assumption was that you were teaching students with a good base of English already. I was hoping for some guidance on how to teach people with very little English, or none at all. This was not covered and TEFL.org doesn't seem to have a course that covers this.”

“I thought the course was well structured, it's nice to do it at your own pace. The tutors are great, I had emailed once as the feedback was really unclear and they got back to me quickly. I was alittle annoyed by one of the examples which described the uk. It was full of stereotypes and clichés. Not appropriate for language learners and if it were to be said about any other country it would be an obvious issue. This is only a very minor element to the course though and I'd still recommend this particular organisation if you really need it.”

“I couldn't be happier with my TEFL Org experience. I completed the combined 120-hour course and the support I received online and during the face-to-face training weekend was exceptional. The tutor, Simon, was so knowledgeable and made the sessions engaging and fun whilst ensuring we left feeling confident about our journeys into Tefl teaching. He has inspired me to pursue a career in linguistics and to be the best Tefl teacher I can be.”

“I found a few errors. I started to take pictures to send you but didn’t capture them all. The test on telephone teaching was very difficult because the questions were too vague or the questions were different than the education. One of the unit quizzes had two tests that were exactly the same (copy and pasted twice accidentally. The photos I took I can send to you or Thomas.”

“The content changes style part way through (use of click through buttons, the “introduction videos” are incredibly unnecessary, my tutor had me resubmit items because she had incorrectly marked the work. Very overpriced”

“Easy to go at your own pace. I have done a tefl before but needed a new one, was in a rush and I’m currently unemployed so I managed to complete in a week. My assignments were marked very quickly. Comments were mostly helpful and clear. I liked the videos, they were helpful.”

“I've completed my certificate and it was certainly time well spent. I was truly able to make it a self-paced curriculum within the time allotted. There was a negative, however. There were many videos showing lessons in progress. While the teachers' audio was stellar, the students were not mic'd up. They were difficult to impossible to hear and understand due to poor audio quality. Sure, it would cost a bit more to mic up the students for sound, but it will result in videos of MUCH greater quality. Future TEFL students will have a better experience. Bryan was a great presenter, but he and the videos' producers need to know that the words STUDENT'S and STUDENTS' have the same number of syllables. I know I'm not the first to point this out. Overall, it was a great experience and well worth it. The written assignments were graded (marked) in just a short period of time. I didn't have to wait. Great job, Dee!”

“I found the 120 hour online course to be very comprehensive and had a strong sense of learning a lot and being assessed. The video of the same teachers and students became a bit tedious after a while and looks a tad dated but I understand it is difficult to get commitment from both students and teachers to be videoed. More variety would have been welcome. The 20 day in class session was very valuable but could have been more productive - it seemed to me that we could have learned the same amount in one day or spent more time learning about how to teach and practicing than we did - so a tighter timetable could have delivered more. Also, a windowless room below ground was a dismal setting for two days (although perfectly clean and in a nice central hotel).”

“TEFL Org’s 120 hour TEFL course was quite good. I found the video demonstrations and quizzes useful and the theory was great. I also loved the format as I could work through it on my phone during the day whenever I had a spare minute because of the transcripts. The only thing I found very unhelpful was the feedback on the assignments. All of my feedback referenced a specific “TEFL method” which was never talked about in any of the actual course modules or resources section. The tutor used the same copy paste version of the definition on every assignment instead of trying to explain it more fully. Very disappointing to follow all the directions for assignments again and again and still receive poor feedback even though I passed the assignment based on a method that was never explicitly taught.”
