We always take our dogs with us. It would help to have more information about enclosed gardens not just a patio for some of our searches but that's a small thing”

“The cottage is well presented clean inside everything works only gripe is my husband didn't find the double the bed very comfortable whereas I did he said it felt like you were constantly feeling like you were rolling of the edge the location was perfect for us it's a very quiet area easy to get to highly recommend”
“An absolutely fantastic stay at Jacob’s Lodge. For the first time in any Sykes property we had nothing we could improve on. The bedrooms were amazing - beds so comfortable. The house was completely stocked with everything we needed, kitchen especially was so good - we’ve ordered the water jug and salad bowls for home!! Best hot tub of any property we’ve been at. Super attentive hosts - all the little touches we’ve come to expect, freshly baked bread and cakes on arrival, a warm welcome, great comms over WhatsApp in advance. Great location - we had days out at the waterfalls and Barnard Castle. Dinner at the pub 100m up the road. Incredible views and at night time, an incredible views of stars as so close to the national dark park. Kids had a great time - 2 different TV/games rooms meant they were constantly entertained. We ate dinner outside on 6 of 7 evenings. An absolute wonderful stay - fully recommended by all 12 of our guests!!!”

“I make a booking, paid I booked Waterbird Lodge at White Cross Bay through Sykes Holiday Cottages and paid a £75 deposit. Before my stay, I read through reviews of the property and noticed the same maintenance issues (broken appliances, worn fittings, wifi problems) being raised repeatedly by different guests over an extended period, with no clear evidence they'd been addressed. This understandably put me off, so I cancelled the booking and rebooked elsewhere for the same dates.
Of the £75 I'd paid, only £10 is to be refunded,£65 was retained as a Flexible Cancellation fee. I accept this was disclosed in the terms at the time of booking, but I wrote to Sykes asking if they'd consider a goodwill gesture given the circumstances. I've had no response.
My experience is with the booking and cancellation process rather than the lodge itself, which I never stayed in, but I wanted to flag both the recurring review pattern and the lack of any reply to a reasonable, polite request.”
“So much could be improved. No phone number easily visible on the we page. Live chat clearly isn't live, as I got no response. Opens a new browser for each property you look at and returns you right back to the top of the page each time so you have to scroll through every property again. Just not quite up with the times. As an owner of a Sykes property myself, I am entitled to a 10% discount, but the process is clunky and feels hardly worth the effort. I have in fact had no response to my enquiries about it. Sykes - you are clearly struggling. On the downward spiral I feel. Sorry!”
“What a lovely place this was. Couldn’t fault anything. Clean and everything you would need was there. Perfect sleep as so as very quiet.
Excellent hosts(Van and Jaqui) and a lovely welcoming hamper left for us.
