“We have used Sykes Cottages many times over recent years, and have always found their service efficient and helpful.
Their descriptions of the holiday homes are accurate and fairly represent the properties concerned. I particularly like having a local caretaker/ owner who when I have needed something resolved have been supportive and provided a fast response.”
“Great cottage for 2, in a fantastic location right in the heart of Conwy. Parking is available in the street but is tight but other pay and display options available nearby if youre not comfortable with this. Nice living space with a table to eat at and kitchen with the basics (oven, grill, toaster, kettle) to cook in. Good size bedroom with good king sized bed and nice bathroom with walk in shower upstairs.
The milk, tea, coffee and Welsh cakes were a nice welcome. There was very little washing up liquid or hand soap left but the spar was only 2 mins away to buy more.
The place was generally clean and tidy, but the air fresheners used were quite overwhelming on arrival. The cottage could do with a more thorough clean as it was dusty in places like inside some drawers and cobwebs on the stairs and round some windows. Also some utensils needed a good clean.
Searching and booking was easy and all the information needed provided in a timely manner.”
“A well equipped, spacious and centrally placed apartment in Whitby. A seaside town with plenty to see and do in the area. Onsite parking very convenient but also good local transport links mean you can choose a variety of ways to see the surrounding area. This was our second visiting the engine sheds.”
“Lovely clean light home. Very comfortable spacious rooms. Good fixings and fixtures. Outdoor space and seating area an added bonus
Great base for exploring and short walk to shops, places to eat and beach. Only downside was internet strength not great!
Owners very accommodating- Thankyou . Hoping to return”
“We had a really lovely stay. Lots to do locally, lovely walks and places to visit. The lodge was cosy and relaxing and the hosts were very friendly and helpful.”
“Lovely bungalow very close to the sea, perfect for a short break.
The bungalow was so peaceful, with comfortable beds and easy access to the beach. Plenty of kitchen accessories which allowed us to prepare meals every evening after busy days out.
There was a small breakfast bar for eating meals which would have been difficult to manage 5 people eating at the same time, but as there were only 3 of us, it didn't cause us any issues!”
“We had a wonderful stay at Oakley! It was perfectly set up for our group of 6 adults and 6 children. The house was clean and really well equipped to a high standard, the additional touches such as provisions for the dogs, and welcome treats were lovely. We will definitely look to come again! Thank you!”
“What an amazing cottage. Absolutely perfect for our family weekend in a beautiful location. Cottage was well equipped, clean and tidy and the scones were a lovely touch. Thankyou!”
“Easy site to use. Plenty of information ahead of stay. Would have been 5 stars if they review and collate instructions from owners. Eg email from Sykes at end of stay mentioned stripping beds etc as instructed by property owner, but there were no instructions from the property owner. Minor point maybe but doesn't require much effort to join things up and get owners to provide information to a standard template.”
“We had a really lively time staying at the cottage with a group of friends. Great location, close to some lovely, shops, cafes and walks. The cottage had everything you need and more. Beautiful bedrooms with a lovely garden.”
“I really enjoyed my stay in the house itself – it’s a lovely, cosy place and was well equipped with everything I needed. The local area is great too, with nice walks nearby and easy access to shops and other amenities.
However, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again due to my experience with the owners, who live on the property, which unfortunately made the stay quite uncomfortable at times. I was not able to leave my dog at the house at all, even briefly to do something like a food shop. This was particularly difficult due to the warm weather, as leaving my dog in the car was not an option.
On one occasion, I noticed the owners checking through the windows to see if the dog had been left alone, which felt unsettling and invasive making me feel like I was being watched for the rest of my stay. On my first day of the holiday had to abandon a food shop midway after receiving a phone call from the owner, who was concerned that my dog had been left alone and insisted he needed to be let out. During this call, it was suggested that I had left the dog for an extended period, which was not the case. The dog had just been on a 4 hour hike before the food shop and refused to leave his bed when I rushed back to take him out for the toilet. When I arrived back to let the dog out, there were also comments l made that suggested I was going to be aggressive with the owner which I found uncomfortable as I was in no way aggressive I just have a northern accent. This incident caused me a lot of distress as I am 6 months pregnant and I thought there was something wrong with my dog due to how the owner acted on the phone and having to rush back the way we did just for there to be nothing wrong.
As a result of these restrictions, I ended up having to eat out for most meals, as I was unable to complete a food shop. There was also an issue at the end of my stay where I was asked to pay £150 for scratches on the table that were already present on arrival.”
“We received such a warm welcome from Jill. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise, as we were staying over the Easter weekend it even included Easter eggs!
The Stables is a beautiful property, the care and attention to detail is evident in every room. Immaculately clean and with high quality fixtures and fittings.
So much to do in the local area: Chester Zoo is a 5 minute drive and the X1 bus at the end of the street takes you into straight into Chester or Liverpool.
The best holiday home we have stayed at, many thanks Jill & Jane”
