“Spacious well appointed cottage. We found it to be clean. There is actually room for 3 cars in the driveway. If the weather had been better we would also have exploited the nice garden facilities too.
The instructions for the heating system were not very clear and the controller a bit complicated - would suggest providing an idiits guide. The kitchen door lock needed some fiddling with from the outside to gain entry”
“A lovely secluded cottage, very comfortable, On a clear night you can watch the stars through the skylight.On the edge of exmoor but you are only 10 mins from lynton and lynmouth.The valley of the rocks a must see and watersmeet another beautiful place.”

“Blacksmiths Cottage, Ingram Road, Bamburgh proved to be an unpleasant experience. The living space was ok. The bedrooms were very humid, they smelled of urine or beer and the ensuite had a problem with sewage. The quilts, pillows and mattress protectors proved to be filthy. One person described the air in their room as "gagging".
Previous reviews alluded to damp but it was unfit to live in or rent out. The roof was not maintained with ferns growing our of the tiles and leaves in the gutter. I contacted Sykes on numerous occassions via email, telephone and live chat. A plumber called in on Tuesday afternoon, he "fixed' the smell temporarily but that made the sewage back up. No one helped after that. I asked for dehumidifiers, none were supplied. The underlying smell was foul.
My impression was that no one cared. Everyone was paid. No refund and no apology. It seems criminal to take money knowing something is not fit for purpose. I won't be using a Sykes cottage again based upon this experience.
I left a review on Sykes website about the experience, and it has not appeared, the cottage is no longer for rent. This is an admission of something. Perhaps someone else contacted Trading Standards? Just thinking about the cottage makes me feel itchy. When we got home the first thing we all did was wash.”
